January 2021 TV & RADIO LISTINGS GUIDE JANUARY 2021 PRIMETIME For more information go to witf.org/tv Last month we presented an encore of Sanditon. There is not a new season to • share with you this month, which reminds me of a call I • took from a viewer recently. The viewer was disappointed by the news that recent series on Masterpiece would not be returning for a second season, with Beecham House being another example of this scenario. PBS and Masterpiece sign on to series in development early on. This mostly out of necessity because of the highly competi- tive market to acquire quality dramas and mysteries. In most cases, these series premiere across the pond ahead of the planned broadcast here. This month on Masterpiece we welcome a remake. All Creatures Great and Small begins January 10. The series is based on the books of James Alfred Wight, published under the pen name James Herriot. This is not the first JAN. 10 • 9pm adaptation that has broadcast on WITF. • NPR Mideast Coverage April - June 2012
NPR Mideast Coverage April - June 2012 This report covers NPR's reporting on events and trends related to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians during the second quarter of 2012. The report begins with an assessment of the 37 stories and interviews, covered by this review, that aired from April through June on radio shows produced by NPR. The 37 radio items is just one more than the lowest number for any quarter (in July-September 2008) during the past ten years. Over that period, NPR programs have carried an average of nearly 100 items per quarter related to Israel, the Palestinians, or both. I also reviewed 20 news stories, blogs and other items carried exclusively on NPR's website. All of the radio and website-only items covered by this review are shown on the "Israel-Palestinian coverage" page of the website. The opinions expressed in this report are mine alone. Accuracy I carefully reviewed all items for factual accuracy, with special attention to the radio stories, interviews and website postings produced by NPR staffers. NPR's coverage of the region continues to be remarkably accurate for a news organization with very tight deadlines. NPR has posted no corrections on its website for stories that originated during the April-June quarter; two corrections were posted in April concerning items dealt with in my report for the January-March quarter. I found no outright inaccuracies during the period, but I will point out two instances of misleading use of language. Freelance correspondent Sheera Frenkel reported for All Things Considered on May 8 about the status of a hunger strike among Palestinian prisoners.

Clive Swift Clive Swift is Reverend Brewer “Brewer lives life to the full,” explains Swift.“He knows all about the suffering and sadness in the world, and this makes him all the more determined to enjoy life. He likes a drink or two, follows the horses and dabbles in a bit of gambling, even winning a bob or two on occasion! He’s never married but he’s certainly had a few girlfriends, as he’s a bit of a ladies man. But the Bishop seems to know something about Brewer’s behaviour which is a cause for concern.” Reverend Brewer has seen a lot of life, so whenever anyone is in trouble or has a problem they go to him. “Brewer’s very sympathetic and wants life to be better for everyone. He would have been born towards the end of the 19th century and would have survived two world wars. He’s got lots of memories of the wars and is likely to have served in some capacity.” And he’s a popular resident in the village:“I think the character that Brewer is closest to is Mr Boynton, the shopkeeper. They are similar in age, although Boynton is self-educated whereas Brewer would have gone to university. But I think Brewer is sometimes a little bit hard on Wilf, the station- master, and in return Wilf doesn’t trust Brewer Clive Swift when they’re playing cards! Formerly married to writer Margaret Drabble, with whom he has three children – one of whom, “Brewer also has a great deal of respect for Arthur Joe, is a presenter on Gardener’s World.

V VI Figur 1 "There will be no miracles here" av den skotske kunstneren Nathan Coley. Skulpturen var plassert utenfor The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art under innspillingen av Antiques Roadshow på samme sted, sommeren 2013. Literary, Subsidiary, and Foreign Rights Agents A Mini-Guide by John Kremer Copyright © 2011 by John Kremer All rights reserved. Open Horizons P. O. Box 2887 Taos NM 87571 575-751-3398 Fax: 575-751-3100 Email: [email protected] Web: http://www.bookmarket.com Introduction Below are the names and contact information for more than 1,450+ literary agents who sell rights for books. For additional lists, see the end of this report. The agents highlighted with a bigger indent are known to work with self-publishers or publishers in helping them to sell subsidiary, film, foreign, and reprint rights for books. All 325+ foreign literary agents (highlighted in bold green) listed here are known to work with one or more independent publishers or authors in selling foreign rights. Some of the major literary agencies are highlighted in bold red. To locate the 260 agents that deal with first-time novelists, look for the agents highlighted with bigger type. You can also locate them by searching for: “first novel” by using the search function in your web browser or word processing program. Unknown author Jennifer Weiner was turned down by 23 agents before finding one who thought a novel about a plus-size heroine would sell. Her book, Good in Bed, became a bestseller. The lesson? Don't take 23 agents word for it. Find the 24th that believes in you and your book. When querying agents, be selective. Don't send to everyone. Send to those that really look like they might be interested in what you have to offer.

We are also busy planning our Summer Action Auction, our LIVE! on CET Reimagined event (details coming in the next issue of this magazine!) and more. We are getting 2021 off to a great start and we hope you are too. To support our community’s young learners, we started airing Let’s Learn, a new hour-long daytime program featuring instruction by educators and virtual field trips for kids ages 3 to 8, especially those learning at home. SOITA also continued to offer a robust schedule of educator-and-student-focused workshops, including new age-specific courses about Google Classroom. We are also creating new videos as part of American Graduate: Getting to Work. In the production space, we are continuing to produce new episodes of The Art Show and SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar and, as I write this, we are working to build a new remote-interview set-up in our studios, which we can continue to use well after the pandemic has ended.

  • The Washington Times
The Washington Times www.washingtontimes.com Perils of state-owned news outlets By Richard W. Rahn THE WASHINGTON TIMES Published June 5, 2003 If the federal government suddenly announced it had acquired the New York Times and now was going to force taxpayers to subsidize it, how would you react? Furthermore, assume you were told they would keep the same left-leaning editorial personnel and practices. Most Americans would be justifiably outraged because they would understand they were being forced to pay for political propaganda they may disagree with; that the government-subsidized paper had an unfair advantage over its private sector competitors; and that the paper could be used by political authorities for their own advantage. In fact, these same arguments are equally valid against the government-owned Corporation for Public Broadcasting and its subsidiary, National Public Radio (NPR). NPR has a well-known and documented left-wing political bias with views almost identical to that of the New York Times. NPR has a strong advantage over its private sector competitors because it receives the government subsidy and tax-deductible, private contributions to its operations. Advocates for NPR often claim conservatives have more talk radio hosts with bigger audiences so, even if NPR has a leftist bias, it is not a danger. However, there is a fundamental difference. If you do not like Rush Limbaugh, you can boycott his sponsors by not buying their products. If you do not like NPR and try to boycott its sponsor (the federal government) by withholding your taxes, you can be sent to jail.
