[VISION]

The Cuyahoga Community College Department of Campus Police & Security Services is dedicated to protecting life and property, and detecting and preventing crime. The department includes sworn and non-sworn personnel, police, security, dispatchers and student patrol officers. As members of the academic community, the department serves the College with courtesy, pride, dependability and sensitivity. It is the goal of Cuyahoga Community College’s Department of Campus Police & Security Services to serve all persons equally, without regard to race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

The Campus Police and Security Services department at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has received full accreditation status from The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®). Tri-C is the first community college in Ohio and the only community college in the nation to have the honor. There are 62 colleges and university police departments, including the Shaker Heights Police Department and the Cleveland Metropolitan Police Department, who are CALEA accredited. Other accredited college and university police departments include University of Alabama, Ball State University, Kent State University, University of Michigan, University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, and University of Texas at Houston, Purdue University, Rutgers University and North Carolina University.

CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations: International Association of Chiefs of Police; National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives; National Sheriffs’ Association; and the Police Executive Research Forum.

The accreditation program is designed to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioners, covering a range of up- to-date public safety initiatives; establishing and administering an accreditation process; and recognizing professional excellence.
