One of the most important folivorous insect pest on these crops is the banana skipper; Erionota thrax. The larvae of these large butterflies can cause mean leaf defoliation of about 60, leading to yield losses of about 20. Indigenous to Southeast Asia, life stages of the pest are attacked by several parasitoids of which Ooencyrtus erionotae, Cotesia erionotae and Brachymeria spp. are the major ones. Infestation and parasitism of the pest varies with plant growth stages, leaf ages, between interior and field edges, and seasons. Significantly higher infestation and parasitism found on pre-flowered plants, younger leaves and during the rainy season. In addition, eggs and larvae are randomly distributed while pupae are clumped and parasitized eggs and pupae are clumped while that of larvae is random. Although E. thrax has never been reported on non-Musa species or weeds, other smaller Erionota species have been recorded on Asystacia intrusa, Ipomoea cairica, Mimosa pudica -

These include: Antigonon leptopus Hooker & Arnott, Bidens pilosa L., Chromolaena odorata (L.) King and Robinson, Clidemia hirta (L.) D. Don, Coccinia grandis (L.) Voigt, Cuscuta sp., Eichhornia crassipes (Martius) Solms-Laubach, Imperata conferta (Presl) Ohwi, Ipomea spp., Lantana camara L., Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) deWit, Mikania scandens (L.) Willd., Mimosa (invisa) diplotricha C. Wright ex Suavalle, Miscanthus floridulus (Labill.) Warburg ex Schum. & Lauterb., Momordica charantia L., Panicum maximum Jacquin, Passiflora foetida L., Pennisetum polystachyon (L.) Schultes, Piper auritum Kunth, Pistia stratiotes L., Raphidophora aurea (Linden ex Andre), Spathodea campanulata P. de Beauvois, and Wedelia trilobata (L.) Hitche. The natural enemies introduced to suppress some of these species will be discussed. The accidental or intentional introductions for ornamental and other pur- poses of many herbs, shrubs, vines and trees have had a profound effect on the environment in Micronesia. These plants have become dominant in the ecosys- tem because of the absence of their natural enemies that normally keep them in check. Lee (1974) stated that invading plants originating in the New World out- number those from the Old World in Guam. He found the invading species of plants were 3.4% in limestone forest, 9.4% in ravine forest, 13.3% in savanna, 17.3% in strand and 32.4% in wetlands ecosystems. -

Beardsley, Jr. DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII HONOLULU, HAWAII In December 1961,1 delivered a presidential address before this Society which was titled "On Accidental Immigration and Establishment of Terrestrial Ar thropods in Hawaii During Recent Years" (Beardsley, 1962). In it I reviewed and analyzed accidental insect immigration into Hawaii for the 25 year period of 1937 through 1961. I thought that this time around it might be of interest to review the same subject for the 15 year period since my earlier presentation, and to again analyze our accidental immigrants in an attempt to determine whether or not trends which were indicated in 1961 have continued, and if the inferences which were drawn then have been substantiated. The data on which these remarks are based are contained largely in the Proceed ings of this Society, mostly in the Notes and Exhibitions sections. The annual lists of new immigrant species contained in the "Proceedings" were a valuable starting point, but they do contain occasional errors and quite a few omissions. Omissions have resulted because not all new immigrant records for Hawaii are reported in the Notes and Exhibitions. Quite a few new records appear only in submitted papers published in the ''Proceedings," or occasionally, in other journals (e.g.: Pacific In sects). I have attempted to include all such records which have come to my atten tion. I would like to urge all of you who either publish or find records of immigrant insects or other terrestrial invertebrates new to Hawaii in other journals to submit notes on these organisms for inclusion in this Society's "Proceedings." By so doing you will help to make a more complete and readily accessible record avail able for Hawaiian entomologists. -

A new subspecies, Pyroneura callineura natalia subspec. nov. is described and illustrated. Taxonomic notes on certain species are presented. Since the previous publication summarizing the knowledge of the Hesperiidae in the southern part of Vietnam (Devyatkin & M onastyrskii , 2000), several further localities have been visited by research expeditions and individual collectors. The annotated list below is based predominantly on the material collected in the Cat Tien Na ture Reserve in 2000 (no year is given for the label data in the list), which was most profoundly studied and proved to be very rich and diverse in terms of the butterfly fauna, and contains new records for the south of the country along with some taxonomic corrections made in view of the new data. Although some of the areas concerned in this paper may be geographically attributed to the southern part of Central Vietnam (or Annam), they were not regarded in our previous publica tions dedicated to the northern and central areas of the country (Devyatkin & M onastyrskii , 1999, 2002), the new data thus being supplementary to those published before on the south ern part of Vietnam (Devyatkin & M onastyrskii , 2000). -

However, collections in the Entomology Museum of Michigan State University (MSU), East Lansing, and in the Museum of Zoology of the University of Michigan (UMMZ), Ann Arbor, indicate that collecting has been extensive throughout the state (Fig. 1). The key and annotated list are based on material I identified in these two collections. -
