Esgob Thursday 2nd March 2017 Llanelwy To the Electoral College members for the The Bishop Diocese of St Asaph and members of the Diocesan Standing Committee of St Asaph Dear Friends You will already know that no candidate gained the necessary two thirds majority at the Electoral College for Llandaff last week for us to be able to elect a successor to Archbishop Barry Morgan as Bishop of Llandaff. Under the Constitution of the Church in Wales, it now falls to the Bench of Bishops to nominate the next bishop. At the conclusion of the meeting, Bishop John (Swansea and Brecon) as the Senior Bishop committed the Bench to wide consultation before we move to nomination. The Bench will meet on the 14th March, so time is very short. I am therefore circulating a short pro forma for your consideration, and I would be pleased if you could complete it, if you wish, and send it back to me by Friday 10th March. It may be sent by post or electronically. (The post of Archbishop is the matter of an entirely separate election, it is the post of Bishop of Llandaff alone that we are considering.) Above all else, please hold the diocese of Llandaff in your prayers as we seek to discern God’s will for the next phase of their life in the Church in Wales, and pray for the bishops, as we seek to discharge faithfully our duty under the Constitution. With my good wishes Name: Question One: Please describe in one sentence the distinctive qualities of the person that you believe should now be invited to take up the ministry of Bishop of Llandaff. (The Diocesan Profile prepared for the election is available at http://www.churchinwales.org.uk/resources/electoral-college/ ) Is there any name which you believe that the bishops should consider for this ministry?
