Your institution is one of the (75) selected institutions (list in Annexure -I) in the Country for holding this special Programme, named "Yeh India ka Time Hai". 2. As a part of this programme, it is proposed to host a brainstorming session "New India Manthan" followed by a concert by select Rock Bands. The Bands are being identified and deputed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India, through the National Film Development Corporation (I'J FDC). 3. In this context, it is requested to take the following actions immediately: A. l"1anthan: The Manthan programme is a brain-storming session of the youth in the institution on the theme New India 2022. For facilitating this, the institution may take the following actions: i. Identify a venue for tile Manthan suitable for holding the discussions. ii. A theme for the Manthan may be identified keeping in view the core focus area of the Institution, and shall be relevant to New India 2022. iii. All the students may be intimated about the discussion programme and its theme well in advance. It may be ensured that students participate in large numbers in the discussion. iv. The discussion in the Manthan forum may be moderated by a suitable person so as to have an orderly discussion. Page 1 of 6 v. A rapporteur may be appointed to list down the decisions arrived at after the discussion. This report may be mailed to [email protected]. B. Yeh India Ka Time Hai Concert: On completion of Manthan, there will be a rock concert "Yeh India ka Time Hai". For this purpose, the following arrangements are to be made by the institution:­ a) Coordinate with National Film Development Corporation (I\JFDC)(or their regional office) for identifying the date, and for providing suitable venue for holding the concert. b) Participate in the organisation of the programme by providing the facilities as per Annexure - II. c) Considering the band playing patriotic tunes, suitable decorum should be maintained. d) I & B Ministry has tied up with local Radio Stations for covering the event through their channel. e) The video clips and photographs can be uploaded on Facebook https:Ilwww.facebook.com/freedom 70yearsmhrd 4. Neuman, Chair For centuries, the songs of devotional poet-saints have been an integral part of Indian religious life. Countless regional traditions of bhajans (devotional songs) have been able to maintain their existence by adapting to serve the contemporary social needs of their participants. This dissertation draws on fieldwork conducted over 2014-2015 with contemporary bhajan performers from many different genres and styles throughout India. It highlights a specific tradition in the Central Indian region of Malwa based on poetry by Kabir and other Sants (anti- establishment poet-saints) performed by lower-caste singers. This tradition was largely unheard- of half a century ago, but is now a major part of Malwa’s cultural life that has facilitated the creation of lower-caste spiritual networks and created a space for those networks to engage in discourse about social issues. Malwa’s bhajan singers have also become part of India’s popular ii religious and musical life as certain performers have attained celebrity status and been recognized at the national level as living bearers of the Sant tradition. This dissertation follows performers and songs from Malwa into new contexts and explores the processes by which performers and audiences in diverse styles and contexts use Sant bhajans to construct understandings of the self.

    Karthik Mani (Drummer/Percussionist) Karthik Mani hails from a family of musicians – his father, legendary TAS Mani is a renowned percussionist who is the founder of “The Karnataka College of Percussion”, and his mother Vid RA Ramamani is a reputed ground breaking Carnatic vocalist who has performed Worldwide and has pioneered the Indo-Jazz fusion. Karthik is a World Percussionist/Drummer with a solid foundation in South Indian Classical Music. As a kid, he was mostly surrounded by music as there used to be a lot of students from all over the world who learned at their school “Karnataka College of Percussion”. He started learning Vocal from his mother and Mridangam from his father. After few years, he showed more interest in Mridangam and other Percussion Instruments. At the age of 13, he got third rank in the Karnataka State Junior Mridangam Examination. Karthik had an opportunity to tour with the first fusion band “Sangam” along with all the legendary musicians.He was introduced to a drum kit by his friend in his early twenties. After playing the drum kit, he immediately realised his passion for drumming and has never looked back since then. Karthik is a self taught Drummer/ World Percussionist who draws inspiration from everything and everyone. And, with so many things vying for our limited attention span, it's even tougher! But there are people who stretch themselves and walk that extra mile to do just that. Needless to say, creative satisfaction marks their identity. "Time is just an excuse; we end up doing what we enjoy the most. And I enjoy everything I do," says 28-year-old Archana Prasad. A painter, poet, and a video artist, she is also the guiding force behind two community art projects in the city. Her latest, Jaaga (Space), is nearly a year old. What started with the need for a community space has resulted in the first-of-its-kind architecture-cum-art project in the city. It has been created as a space where people could meet, talk, exchange ideas and show each other's work. "We found unused space in the middle of the city, and Naresh Narasimhan, of architecture firm Venkataramanan Associates, was kind enough to give it to us for three months," says Prasad. When it opened eight months ago, visitors came in out of curiosity. Today, Jaaga is abuzz with people and events. Impressed with its concept and activities, Narasimhan extended the lease to six months, and then, to an infinite period. Prasad studied animation from NID after a bachelor's degree in painting and a master's in art history.

Neuman, Chair For centuries, the songs of devotional poet-saints have been an integral part of Indian religious life. Countless regional traditions of bhajans (devotional songs) have been able to maintain their existence by adapting to serve the contemporary social needs of their participants. This dissertation draws on fieldwork conducted over 2014-2015 with contemporary bhajan performers from many different genres and styles throughout India. It highlights a specific tradition in the Central Indian region of Malwa based on poetry by Kabir and other Sants (anti- establishment poet-saints) performed by lower-caste singers. This tradition was largely unheard- of half a century ago, but is now a major part of Malwa’s cultural life that has facilitated the creation of lower-caste spiritual networks and created a space for those networks to engage in discourse about social issues.
