The Playlist: the 1975, Panic! at the Disco, & Yellowcard August 29, 2013 by Kim Conway The Playlist: The 1975, Panic! At The Disco, & Yellowcard August 29, 2013 By Kim Conway It’s not over yet, kids. We’ve still got a few days left of glorious summer (and August, for that matter). Before I start looking for new sweater-weather tunes, I want to wind down with three more sun- soaked ones. These artists all made my soundtrack to summer possible and I look forward to hearing new albums from some of them this fall. Our last summer jam session starts now: 1. The 1975 - Chocolate The 1975 have been around a while, but I only just discovered them on a hunt for a new alt-rock band to get hooked on. The first time I heard “Chocolate,” I fell in love with the guitar plucking along behind the accented vocals. It’s a little pop, a little indie, and a little alt-rock. While I still have yet to learn more than a few lyrics, this track scores for me in that it’s got a catchy melody and verses that keep me guessing. The 1975’s self-titled album comes out next Tuesday, September 3rd. 2. Panic! At The Disco – This Is Gospel Their album drop is still nearly two months away and I’m ridiculously addicted to the second track released from it. “This Is Gospel” opens with Brendon’s vocals accompanied by a heartbeat, then slowly picks up with a more solid rhythm. At the 0:36-second mark, the beat stops as Brendon screams, if you love me, let me go and the instrumental rushes back in. This song is undeniably catchy, with the lyrics that punch you in the gut and a chorus that swoops in after every verse. I don’t see myself getting sick of this track ever. If you have any doubts about Panic’s return, listen to this one. It’s a keeper. 3. Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue (Acoustic) No summer playlist would be complete without a little nostalgia, which I’m delivering through Yellowcard. Since the band released Ocean Avenue Acoustic just a few weeks ago, I thought the title track would be a perfect song to end on. In the acoustic version of “Ocean Avenue,” Yellowcard is full of just as much energy as they were ten years ago. So here’s to one last bonfire, to new and old friends, to the memories we all made these last few months, and to sleeping all day, staying up all night. If you want to check out the songs I’ve featured in The Playlist so far, I now have a Spotify playlist that I’ll be updating each week. You can check it out right here. .

POST-9/11 RHETORICAL THEORY AND COMPOSITION PEDAGOGY: FOSTERING TRAUMA RHETORICS AS CIVIC SPACE Robin Marie Merrick Murphy A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2007 Committee: Kristine L. Blair, Advisor Geoffrey C. Howes Graduate Faculty Representative Richard C. Gebhardt Gary Heba © 2007 Robin M. Murphy All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Kristine L. Blair, Advisor Though a recent series in JAC (24:1&2, 2004) featured special issue on Trauma and Rhetoric, little to no information is available in the Composition and Rhetoric field that provides instructors a writing curriculum by which to address social traumas. At the same time, only in the last several years has there been a noteworthy surge of theory and practice in the field calling for the inclusion of technology and visual rhetoric in composition production. Add to that lack of training available for teachers to maintain the knowledge to meet the growth of new media and its influences on current literacy demands and classroom practices, and these omissions constitute significant gaps in curriculum needs necessary for the 21st Century, post-9/11 writing classroom. Defining the needs of a post-9/11 writing student is a complicated process and requires a wide scope consideration of both ancient rhetorical traditions and contemporary composition pedagogies. This study uncovers the common characteristics of those traditions and pedagogies that best suit post-9/11 students by first considering the historic role linking rhetorical and composition education while explicitly concentrating on their shared function of teaching citizenry.

  • Fuldblods Punkfest Med Yellowcard I Lille VEGA Til Februar
Southern Air I august udkom Yellowcards ottende album Southern Air. Samtidig blev den officielle video til nummeret ”Here I Am Alive” eksklusivt offentliggjort på MTV flere steder i verdenen. Se den HER.

lisa ritchie music table of contents About Discography Videography Press Photos Shows Booking Info Stage Plot Posters About: Lisa’s Vision It is my aim to capture the timeless truths and to compose and perform them. To place them in melodies that are made for the repeat button. To write songs that you want to hold close, with substance, with honesty and with dignity. To hold a depth of emotion and not lose sight of logic. about: Lisa A songwriter for 13 years and recent graduate from the University of Michigan, Lisa Ritchie’s life has been split between a dedication to two passions - God and music. Lisa formed the band Hush, Love in 2011. Hush, Love eventually was phased out as everyone pursued desk jobs, but Lisa continued to be drawn to music. “Some people know exactly what their style is and how to pursue it, but I find mine to be constantly changing, leading me to chase after a melody I just can’t write... yet.” Influences range from Shania Twain to Death Cab for Cutie, Yellowcard, and Coldplay. She also finds inspiration from newer artists like Milo Greene, Roo Panes and Lord Huron. Lisa’s songwriting has been shaped by the songs she never tires of, like “Title and Registrations!” by Death Cab for Cutie. “That is a song I will never be sick of listening to. So, I think that’s my goal: write a song that’s so good, you can listen to on repeat without getting tired of it. There’s some ‘mystical’ element in songs like that, they put feelings into words.” about: lisa A renewed drive to pursue her greatest passion I’ve been standing at the edge of the music scene for about 5 years waiting for the opportunity to really invest in music.

  • History of the Violin
History of the Violin Batchelder violin (USA) The earliest stringed instruments were mostly plucked (the Greek lyre). Bowed instruments may have originated in the equestrian cultures of Central Asia, an example being the Kobyz (Kazakh: қобыз) or kyl-kobyz is an ancient Turkic, Kazakh string instrument or Mongolian instrument Morin huur: Turkic and Mongolian horsemen from Inner Asia were probably the world’s earliest fiddlers. Their two-stringed upright fiddles were strung with horsehair strings, played with horsehair bows, and often feature a carved horse’s head at the end of the neck. The violins, violas, and cellos we play today, and whose bows are still strung with horsehair, are a legacy of the nomads. It is believed that these instruments eventually spread to China, India, the Byzantine Empire and the Middle East, where they developed into instruments such as the erhu in China, the rebab in the Middle East, the lyra in the Byzantine Empire and the esraj in India. The violin in its present form emerged in early 16th-Century Northern Italy, where the port towns of Venice and Genoa maintained extensive ties to central Asia through the trade routes of the silk road. The modern European violin evolved from various bowed stringed instruments from the Middle East and the Byzantine Empire. It is most likely that the first makers of violins borrowed from three types of current instruments: the rebec, in use since the 10th century (itself derived from the Byzantine lyra and the Arabic rebab), the Renaissance fiddle, and the lira da braccio (derived from the Byzantine lira).
