Dell’Erba photogr. © ADCK-CCT, Les Francofolies in La Rochelle Concert at the Tjibaou cultural centre A network of festivals with an international approach The spirit of the Francofolies has always spanned the borders creating temporary events in New York, Buenos Aires, Berlin, etc. and long lasting events such as the Francofolies in Montréal in Quebec or in Spa, Belgium. This year the network will grow to include New Caledonia, thus offering to French speaking artists and professionals of the music scene yet another access to the world. The peregrinations of the Francofolies 1989 Start of the Francofolies in Montreal, Quebec, celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2019. 1991 Arrival of the Francofolies in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, for a rich exchange between different cultures. 1994 Birth of the Francofolies in Spa, Belgium, celebrating their 23rd anniversary in 2017. 1995 The Francofolies cross the Atlantic for three events in Buenos Aires, Argentine and in Santiago de Chili. 1996 The first Francofolies in Berlin, Germany, take place as part of the Weeks of the Songs and come back in Berlin 4 times in total. 1999 The Francofolies arrive at new heights in the Swiss Alps in Nendaz. 2003 The Francofolies return to Berlin. 2013 Start of the 1st Francofolies in New York, USA. 2015 The Bulgarian adventure returns 20 years later as the Francofolies are back in Blagoevgrad. 2017 The Francofolies settle in New Caledonia and La Reunion. La Rochelle and New Caledonia Two territories turned towards the sea and the world, especially the French-speaking world and cultures. New Caledonia is internationally perceived as one of the pillars of French language in the Pacific. It is member of the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF). Since 10 years the Francophone Forum of the Pacific takes place there. It is organised by the CREIPAC*. Several Alliances françaises from the Asian-Pacific region come together in New Caledonia and in 2017 its “special guest” will be Vanuatu. A traditional “string band” from this country will be performing during this forum. Numerous workshops, conferences and movie screenings will spotlight several artistic fields. This event, which is associated to the Francofolies Festival this year, is an occasion to promote the arts and artists of the country and to create links to organise international tours of the Caledonian artists performing in French and Kanak languages.. La Rochelle has been the home of the “original” Francofolies for over 30 years now. A festival rooted in the region but also a voyaging event, as artists travel all over the world thanks to numerous exchange programs. Since 2004, the Francofolies support the musicians from overseas, especially with the competition “9 semaines et 1 jour / Nine weeks and one day”, a partnership with Franco Ô TV channel. This event created an international visibility for artists from New Caledonia (Bogan, Ykson or Tyssia). The partnership between La Rochelle and New Caledonia has been signed in order to organise the Francofolies Festival in New Caledonia for at least 3 years, and the contract is renewable. *Centre of International Cultural and Linguistic Exchanges in the Pacific. 2017 LINE UP The Francofolies New Caledonia CONCERTS Tjibaou Cultural Centre Friday 8th of sept. 2017 Saturday 9th of sept. 2017 Sunday 10th of sept. 2017 Julia Paul 100 Fous Celenod Boulevard des Airs Section Autochtone Edou Claudio Capéo du Pacifique Miossec LEJ Nasty & Reza Cali Youssoupha H.F.
