Overend Way/Balally LUAS Stop-Junction and Road Improvements Overend Way/Balally LUAS stop-junction and road improvements With the development of the Dundrum town centre and the opening of the Balally LUAS stop at Rockfield on the Overend Way, the number of pedestrians and cyclists using the area has greatly increased. The Traffic Section has reviewed the current layout and proposes to make alterations which will greatly improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, while still catering for the traffic flows through the area. The proposed works include:- 1. Revising the lane markings on the Overend Way and removing the redundant traffic signals and concrete islands. 2. Construction of a new signalised traffic system with toucan, (pedestrian/cycle), crossings at the junction of the Overend Way and Rockfield. 3. Revised access and egress from Rockfield via a single junction. 4. Extend green area over existing exit roadway from Rockfield to provide enlarged and enhanced open space. 5. Construction of a new concrete build-out on the north side of the access roadway into Rockfield to improve safety at this location and to slow traffic entering form Overend Way. 6. Extend the existing footpath on the east side of Overend Way to provide a direct connection between the new crossing at Rockfield with the Sandyford Road/Wyckham Way junction. 7. Remove the existing railings along the western side of Overend Way, between the Sandyford Road/Wyckham way junction and the new pedestrian/cycle crossing. The Traffic Section proposes to commence a period of non-statutory public consultation shortly with the local residents, businesses and interested stake-holders on the proposed scheme. An opportunity will be afforded for written submissions which will decide if this project can go forward or if any amendments are required to the design to facilitate local concerns. Padraig Watters, Traffic Section. .
