This paper continues the two previous articles of PE3IOME: B pa6o.re 011HCbIBMTCH czeaylotwie the author [Shatalkin, 1992 a,b] and is based on the study of flies of the family Lauxaniidae. In it 19 new species are described. Besides this, it gives a revised and enlarged keys to the Palaearctic species of the two genera, Lauxania and Lyciella. Types of new species are deposited in the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University and the Zoological Insti- tute (St.Petersbourg), Genus Homoneura van der Wulp, 1891. a Among the Palaearctic genera, Homoneura is the most large group, containing about 70 species. The considerable part of them (approximately 50 species) occur in the east area of the Palaearctic Region. While preparing the review of the Palaearctic Homoneura for printing I had examined the compre- hensive material on this genus. As a result of this examination five new species from Russia and China are described. The Chinese material was collected in the last century by the famous geographer and ethnographer O.N.Potanin. Among the others his material contains two specimens, determined by L.Czerny as Homoneura grahami sMalIoch. The Fig. 1. Siles. Sci. Natur. 65: 51-62, 2016. Abstract: Records of eight rare species of the families Psilidae (4), Piophilidae (1), Lauxaniidae (1), Cremifaniidae (1) and Sphaeroceridae (1) from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria are presented and their importance to the knowledge of the biodiversity of local faunas is discussed along with notes on their biology, distribution and identification. Psilidae: Chamaepsila tenebrica (Shatalkin, 1986) is a new addition to the West Palaearctic fauna (recorded from the Czech Republic and Slovakia); Ch. andreji (Shatalkin, 1991) and Ch. confusa Shatalkin & Merz, 2010 are recorded from the Czech Republic (both Bohemia and Moravia) and Ch. andreji also from Austria for the first time, and Ch. unilineata (Zetterstedt, 1847) is added to the fauna of Moravia. Also Homoneura lamellata (Becker, 1895) (Lauxaniidae) and Cremifania nigrocellulata Czerny, 1904 (Cremifaniidae) are first recorded from Moravia and Copromyza pseudostercoraria Papp, 1976 (Sphaeroceridae) is a new addition to faunas of both the Czech Republic (Moravia only) and Slovakia, and its record from Moravia represents a new northernmost limit of its distribution. Pseudoseps signata (Fallén, 1820) (Piophilidae), an endangered species in the Czech Republic, is reported from Bohemia for second time. Photographs of Chamaepsila tenebrica (male), Pseudoseps signata (living female), Homoneura lamellata (male), Cremifania lanceolata (male) and Copromyza pseudostercoraria (male) are presented to enable recognition of these species.

  • Fiji Arthropods
FIJI ARTHROPODS Editors’ Preface We are pleased to present the seventh issue of Fiji Arthropods, a series offering rapid pub- lication and devoted to studies of terrestrial arthropods of the Fiji Group and nearby Pacific archipelagos. Most papers in this series will be the results of collecting and research on the Fijian fauna deriving from the NSF-funded “Terrestrial Arthropods of Fiji” project. Five co-PIs and 18 specialists (see Fiji Arthropods I, p. 18) form the core team of scientists who have agreed to publish new taxa that result from collecting during this sur- vey. However, as space allows, we welcome papers from any scientist who is currently working on arthropod taxonomy in Fiji. This issue contains results of discoveries of new species of Platypezidae (Diptera: Sinclair & Chandler), Pompilidae (Hymenoptera: Pitts et al.), and Zoraptera (Engel). Additionally, a study of the Godeffroy Sale catalogs that list many Fijian arthropods is given (Evenhuis) and the authorship of Xithuthrus heros is clarified (Evenhuis). Manuscripts are currently in press or in preparation on Cerambycidae, Lauxaniidae, Keroplatidae, Mycetophilidae, Mythicomyiidae, Limoniidae, Dolichopodidae, Stratiomyidae, Asilidae, and Sciaridae and will appear in future issues. The editors thank the Government of Fiji (especially the Ministries of Environment and Forestry), the National Science Foundation (DEB 0425970), and the Schlinger Foundation for their support of this project. Types of new species deriving from this study and vouch- er specimens will be deposited in the Fiji National Insect Collection, Suva. All papers in this series are available free of charge as pdf files downloadable from the fol- lowing url: http://hbs.bishopmuseum.org/fiji/fiji-arthropods/ We encourage interested authors to contact us before submitting papers.

TREWICK defining feature of the Hexapoda, as the name suggests, is six legs. Also, the body comprises a head, thorax, and abdomen. The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000).

This is the first report of our study on the family Lauxaniidae of Malaysia based on the specimens collected by the senior author under the 1986 and 1988 joint Japanese-Malaysian projects of the “Systematic and Ecological Surveys on Some Plant-parasitic Microarthropods in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah”. Up to the present, sixteen species of lauxaniid-flies have been recorded fragmentary from Malaya by Walker (1856), Kert&sz (1900), Malloch (1927 & 1929) and others. Six new species of the genera Noonam$a, Phobeticomyia and Poecilomyza are described in this paper. Judging from the results of our study, it may be considered that some more species of Noonamyia occur in the forests in Sabah. The dominancy of the genus, Homoneura van der Wulp, will be exhibited in the next paper. GAIMARI 1 Entomon Lab, Athens, Greece, [email protected] 2 California State Collection of Arthropods, Plant Pest Diagnostics Branch, California Department of Food & Agriculture, 3294 Meadowview Road, Sacramento, California 95832-1448, USA ABSTRACT. The dipteran Sapromyza bisigillata RONDANI 1868, is reported as a new record for Greece. The diagnostic characters, habitat and known distribution of the species are provided. KEYWORDS: Diptera, Lauxaniidae, Sapromyza, faunistics, new record, distribution, Greece INTRODUCTION Lauxaniidae is one of the larger families of acalyptrate Diptera, with more than 2100 species in more than 200 extant genera (GAIMARI et SILVA 2020), with their greatest diversity in the Old and New World tropics (STUCKENBERG 1971, GAIMARI et SILVA 2010). Sapromyza FALLÉN, 1810 is one of the largest lauxaniid genera, with almost 300 described species (GAIMARI et SILVA 2010, SEMELBAUER 2016, MOHAMADZADE NAMIN et GAIMARI 2018), widespread in the Old and New World (MERZ 2007), with more than 1/3 of the described species being Palaearctic. This genus is recognized as one of the default genera used to describe many species when the definition for the genus was very broad. For example, in the Neotropical region, GAIMARI et SILVA (2020) moved 40 species from this genus into other genera, leaving only three species still in the genus for this region, one of which is the result of a lost type and unknown identity, and the other two need further study.
