Authentic account of the amazing Trailanga Trailanga Swami.By siddhanathanWonderful book about one of the most fascinating spiritual beings to emerge from India- Swami Trailanga lived for almost three hundred years and weighed the same number of pounds, hardly spoke and hardly ate. His Siddhis (miracles) were witnessed by tens of thousands of people including officials of the British Government. Unlike other books about the Sami, this biography of the incomparable Swamiji is based on accounts given personally by the mother (Swamiji's foremost disciple) to one of her disciples. The information was taken from a few books that had been salvaged by the new owner of the house where the mother used to live. The book dispels some erroneous accounts of Swamiji's life and is considered an authentic narrative. This disciple's was Bengali and had written the biography in the Bengali language from which it was translated into English. It is no hear say account but a direct one of the life of Trailanga Swami.Blessings5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Advaita Dwaita In The Life Of Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami - Grinding Red Chalk, Hollow Bamboo Flutes Chick PeasBy Selvaraj V M MuthurajaIf you are keen to explore how the Advaita and Dwaita traditions have coexisted in its motherland, this beautiful and divine biography of the Maha Avatar Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami and theMaha Yogini Sri Shankari Mataji will lead you there. For many of us of the Indian diaspora, a generation or more distancefrom their Indian heritage our first introduction to Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswamiwas through Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda's " Autobiography Of A Yogi".This was accompanied by the availability in English of "The Gospel OfSri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa" and other literature from the Sri Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The many awe inspiring references to Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami leftus thirsting for more information on the life and teachings of this august Saint of India. We ached for access to the life of this great Saint in our quest to discoverour great spiritual heritage and find our own sense of connection back to thisocean of spirituality. We felt we were swimming in far away rivers and hadaccess to this ocean denied to us. We were refugees in the havens of our own choiceand craving for the Eden of spirituality our parents seemed to have left behind. The age of the internet dawned 25 years ago and here was a powerful tool thatpotentially could give access to that longed for information. Searches invariably brought us back to the same published references mentioned above. It was as though more details of the life of this great Maha Shiva Avatar was not to be told to the worldbeyond Bharat's holy shores. Various self unfolding events in trying to source a biography - independently concluded itselfin a commercially published biographical work of this Great Maha Avatar. Subsequently further glimpses of His divine origin in Madurai came to the fore and all these was most joyously received. When you are truly parched the source from which the water comes from is rarely inquired into . Any wateravailable can only be by the grace of Bhagawan Trailingaswami. It was like Bhagawan Trailingaswami making Sri Umacharan grind away at the hard red chalk for days before gracing him with the teachings. He was already close to the Lord but had to grind away some more karmas under the watchful eyes of the Maha Guru before being allowed into the inner sanctum for more grace. We too continue grinding away at our karmas and are now blessed to have newaccess to an authentic tranche on the life of this Great Maha Avatar. Our gratitude to the publisher, editor and sponsors cannot be expressed adequately in words.Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami the true wish fulfilling Kalpataru Treehas re-emerged miraculously and we have this great work as a veritable prasadand balm for aching heart and hands. This work and how it became available is truly miraculous.Only by the grace of Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami can this surface. This is a great work on an even greater Saint. We now have a truly authentic source as the work originated, as the pearl drops from Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswamis true spiritual heart child the great Maha Yogini Sri Sri Shankari Mataji.A Saint whose advent was completely engineered and nurtured by Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswamiout of compassion for humanity. This work also partially covers Her great life.Shri Paramanand Sarasawati Swami a direct disciple of Sri Sri Shankari Mataji weaves a beautiful and authentic biography with deep insight into true spirituality. Can we ever fathom the spiritual stature of a Great Maha Avatar ? This the Swamin fearlessly attempts by comparing the life of Bhagawan with pronouncements of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavath Gita and other sacred works. He achieves this difficult objective well which hints at his own high spiritual stature. He beautifully expounds the perpetual Sat-Chit-Ananda state of Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswamiwhen he says "their flute of life is hollow and thus the Divine flautist - the Supreme God- creates the melody of spirituality in them, so they do not have to depend on any external pleasures." Non duality teachings when expressed in the domain of duality can still be awesome, beautiful and sweet. Here is another gem, in the answer to a question posed by Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa Deva to Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami, He asks "Is God an Absolute One or many ?" And at the endof the answer :"So, you can opine that God is One and Two, but actually he is One - the Absolute. The two parts of the beads of making a chick-pea, is the perfect example of this concept." The Divine Mother Sri Sarada Mani Ma on first settings eyes on Bhagawan Sri Trailingaswami, is said to have quipped, " It's a baby", in Tamil it would be translated as "Kulandai". More remains to be told and we eagerly look forward to the English rendition of Guru Darshan 3 as Bhagawan favors us with further glimpses of His Maha Lila as Bhagawan Sri KulandaiAnanda Swamy. Can this everbe truly fathomed ? The end may perhaps only be that of the fate of the salt doll which went to measure the oceans depth. There may be nothing left to see or measure then. Until then it is back to grinding the red chalk. If you have come to this book in it means you haveto buy this book and read it.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Autobiography of a Yogi By Paramhansa Yogananda With a Preface by W. Y. Evans-Wentz, M.A., D. Litt., D. Sc. “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”—John 4:48. The Philosophical Library New York Copyright, 1946, by Paramhansa Yogananda Printed in the United States of America 1946 First Edition, First Printing Published by The Philosophical Library, Inc. 15 East 40th Street New York, N. Donald Walters) I met Paramhansa Yogananda as a result of reading this book. Finding it was, I must say, a complete surprise. There it was, sitting “innocently” on a shelf in a book shop on Fifth Avenue in New York. I’d no idea how utterly this volume would revolutionize my life. That was late in the summer of 1948. I was desperate to know truth. Nothing I’d encountered had persuaded me that people were right in what they were urging on me as my destiny. My father was a geologist working for a large oil company. My mother was respected and happy in her social milieu. Both were, in many ways, ideal parents; I’d never, for example, known them even to have an argument. Their love and respect for one another were an inspiration to their many friends. Yet even so, I was not happy. Life must have more to offer, I felt, than marriage, a nice home in a nice suburb, a socially acceptable job, and “cocktail party” friendships.

They don't care about all these things while the Saint is alive; but when the Saints leave this world, their incredible power and their teachings which change the lives of many people impress the people of the world, and only then-when the Saint is gone-do the people of the world start thinking about them and devoting themselves to them. So that is why, according to the understanding of the people, stories are told about the Saints. It is very difficult to find out much about the Mahatmas of the past-their birth, their place of birth, their parents, their early life, etc.

Lahiri Mahasaya Mahasamadhi Reading Volume II Lahiri Mahasaya received the Kriya Yoga technique from his guru, Babaji. Babaji’s instructions for the transmission of the blessed technique were quite clear and quite strict. In the Autobiography of a Yogi, Babaji explains the requirements to Lahiri Mahasaya: “Bestow the Kriya key only on qualified chelas,” Babaji said. “He who vows to sacrifice all in the quest of the Divine is fit to unravel the final mysteries of life through the science of meditation.” “Angelic guru, as you have already favored mankind by resurrecting the lost Kriya art, will you not increase that benefit by relaxing the strict requirements for discipleship?” I gazed beseechingly at Babaji.

  • Life, Mission and Works of Abhedananda
CHAPTER- II LIFE, MISSION AND WORKS OF ABHEDANANDA The most important as well as everlasting epoch of Indian history is the one which is related to the life of Abh. This influence has been to a certain extent spread to the Western world too. He spent, seventy three years on the lap of mother earth bringing about many changes in the religious and thinking realms. One cannot guess the span of seventy three years of a man who had sacrificed his life for the well-being of the society, Abh. was such a bold and strong personality who very proudly toiled hard, that is spent each and every split of a second, changing the Indian and Western religion and also to some extent to channelize their thoughts. Before stepping into or penning down the life of Abh. the silken thread of his personal life along with the thread of history should be woven together. The establishment of the Hindu college in 1817 was the second birth place of some of the excellent and dignified personalities of Bengal. There were persons who excelled in the intellectual and social reformation leaders like Rajaram Mohan Roy, Raja Ratha Kanto Deb, Dewan Ramkamal Sen etc. These personalities were practical to the core, substantial, self-made humans without knowing their own powers which they had gathered from the limited facilities which they had in their native land but their religious impressions is beyond expression. 39 The state of Bengal soon imbibed the novel ideas and thoughts which marked a new era in the fields of spirituality, politics and religion.

  • The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna
THE GOSPEL OF SRI RAMAKRISHNA “SRI SRI RAMAKRISHNA KATHAMRITA” By Mahendranath Gupta (“M”), His Disciple Translated from the Bengali by Swami Nikhilananda Reproduced from the webpage of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission http://www.belurmath.org/gospel/index.htm 1 FOREWORD by Aldous Huxley IN THE HISTORY of the arts, genius is a thing of very rare occurrence. Rarer still, however, are the competent reporters and recorders of that genius. The world has had many hundreds of admirable poets and philosophers; but of these hundreds only a very few have had the fortune to attract a Boswell or an Eckermann. When we leave the field of art for that of spiritual religion, the scarcity of competent reporters becomes even more strongly marked. Of the day-to-day life of the great theocentric saints and contemplatives we know, in the great majority of cases, nothing whatever. Many, it is true, have recorded their doctrines in writing, and a few, such as St. Augustine, Suso and St. Teresa, have left us autobiographies of the greatest value. But, all doctrinal writing is in some measure formal and impersonal, while the autobiographer tends to omit what he regards as trifling matters and suffers from the further disadvantage of being unable to say how he strikes other people and in what way he affects their lives. Moreover, most saints have left neither writings nor self-portraits, and for knowledge of their lives, their characters and their teachings, we are forced to rely upon the records made by their disciples who, in most cases, have proved themselves singularly incompetent as reporters and biographers.

  • Swami Vivekananda Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda HIS LIFE AND WORKS VHPA Camp SWAMI VIVEKANANDA HIS LIFE AND WORKS With excerpts from “The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda” - 1 - SWAMI VIVEKANANDA His Life and Works The Vision of Vivekananda and the Hindu Renaissa nce The Importance of the Vision: In December, 1892, after two years of wandering as a homeless Hindu monk, Swami Vivekananda found himself in Kanyakumari, the extreme southern tip of India. After darshan of the goddess in the temple, he swam to a large rock in the Indian Ocean, a few hundred yards from the shore. There, Vivekananda meditated long on the fallen condition of the Indian nation, the poverty, the misery, and the ignorance of the masses. There he had a vision in which he clearly saw the past glory of his motherland, the present fallen state, and the future greatness. In this vision, his own mission was made clear to him. He would dedicate his life to the service of his poor and ignorant countrymen. He had become a monk in the pursuit of personal salvation, to have a vision of the Lord. But his own, personal salvation will have to wait. He saw the Lord in the suffering people. The service of these people will be his service to the Lord. He would inspire others, especially the youth of India to take up service of the poor. His goal would be nothing less than the all round renaissance of Bharath; physical, mental, social, and spiritual. At that time, he was all of 28 years of age. He clearly saw how immense the task would be of resurrecting the wounded physical body of Bharath.
