MK Sportscars Brochure 2018 • Models • Services • Parts • Finance Welcome to MK Sportscars MK Sportscars is one of the big players at the affordable end of the Europe’s huge Lotus Seven inspired kit car scene. From an embryonic start producing chassis and suspension components for the Locost, the company was quick to develop its own roadster in 2000. Since then we’ve constantly developed our product range while maintaining a clear focus on affordability allied to quality and high performance. Helping train the next generaon of motorsport engineers, MK Sportscars is a proud partner of colleges and universies throughout the UK. In this brochure you will find informaon on our latest models, the services that we offer and an overview of our broad parts range. MKMK IINDYNDY RX-5RX-5 MKMK IndyIndy RX-5RX-5 The Single Donor Vehicle Our all new Indy RX-5 is the latest model in our line up. Completely designed and simulated in our CAD environment, building on the hugely successful Indy R chassis with inboard front push rod suspension, our new chassis has been developed to use many donor parts from the widely available Mazda MX-5 mk 2 or Miata as it is also known. Our mission was to use a single donor vehicle to keep the cost of this model low, while not compromising the excellent road holding characteriscs of the Indy R. Out of the box the standard 140bhp stock Mazda 1.8 engine gives more than enough performance to excite the road ahead. For the more power hungry amongst us, we have a bolt on turbo kit available to increase the standard Mazda engine in excess 250bhp. And if that’s not enough, this vehicle can also be fied with the most powerful normally aspirated 2 litre producon engine from the Honda S2000. For more informaon and our full range of parts and upgrades visit our website www.mksportscars.com FINANCE AVAILABLE Module Kit 1 & 2 From £99 / mth* *SUBJECT TO APPROVAL £535 Deposit £98.98 Per Month 12.92% APR (48 Months) MKMK IINDYNDY RR MK INDY R S2000 TURBO The Icon The Indy R is our iconic roadster, designed and built for pure involving driving enjoyment on the road or track. Our chassis has been redesigned from the ground up. With all new push rod front suspension as well as a revised rear suspension layout for improved road holding and increased roll resistance. Increased torsional sffness comes from more chassis triangulaon while keeping to a light weight design. The powerhouse is your choice. Whether you’re on a ght budget or going for a top end build, there are a range of car engines or thrilling motorbike engines to choose from. The Indy R is based on the Ford Sierra and you can source parts yourself from a donor vehicle or we can supply a complete running gear donor pack. Major components from the Sierra are the differenal, rear drive sha, front uprights, braking system, steering rack and steering column. Depending on your interest and me available, we can supply the Indy R in basic kit form right up to a turnkey build. The kit can be built by an amateur builder with no specialist tools in around 300 hours. The end result? Sunning looks, impeccable handling, breathtaking performance and a powertoweight rao than will leave most modern day sports cars sat at the lights. MK INDYNDY RRRR MK INDY RR The Ulmate Track Car The Indy RR is not for the faint hearted. Bred for track demanding performance and designed to deliver corner a er corner. The chassis design is even more extreme than the Indy R and can be configured with a full CDS race specificaon roll cage. The Indy RR is based on the Ford Sierra and you can source parts yourself from a donor vehicle or we can supply a complete running gear donor pack. The most popular powerhouse for the track is the Suzuki Hayabusa motorbike engine. In addion to the Indy R specificaon, the RR can be supplier with uprated fuel pumps, a fuel swirl pot, an oil catch tank and dry sump. CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY WESLEY LINTON ANALYSIS OF TORSIONAL STIFFNESS AND DESIGN IMPROVEMENT STUDY OF A KIT CAR CHASSIS PROTOTYPE SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING SCIENCE MSc THESIS CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING SCIENCE MOTORSPORT ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT MSc THESIS Academic year 2001-2 Wesley Linton Analysis of Torsional Stiffness and Design Improvement Study of a Kit Car Prototype Supervisor: Mr. Jason Brown September 2002 This thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science © Cranfield University 2002. All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced without the written permission of the copyright owner. Wesley Linton Abstract The Luego prototype chassis was tested to determine the value of its global torsional stiffness. This value was calculated to be 1330Nm/deg. This value was to be improved upon by the following method: • Creation of a Finite element baseline validation model • Discussed modification of this model • A design improvement study • An optimisation study The creation of a Finite Element baseline validation model using MSC Patran/Nastran software compared favourably with the physical test results with a torsional stiffness value of 1352Nm/deg for a mass of 120.1Kg and an efficiency of 88g/Nm/deg. The discussed modifications had been suggested to Luego upon initial appraisal of the chassis were incorporated into this baseline model and resulted in increases in both torsional stiffness and efficiency. Further, the design improvement study performed resulted in a maximum torsional stiffness of 6448Nm/deg, an increase of 377% over the baseline model. A maximum increase in efficiency of 286% to 23g/Nm/deg for a mass of 148.3Kg accompanied this increase in torsional stiffness.

  • Club Lotus Elan Section
CLUB LOTUS ELAN SECTION The 1970 Lotus advert with Dr Hammond Building an Elan from a Kit – In a Weekend? Over the years the Elan has gained a reputation, unfairly we would argue, of being nothing more than a kit car. This somewhat shallow view ignores the very fine driving qualities of a car we all admire and treasure! However, Colin Chapman realised that his rather expensive two seater could be made more attractive to his potential customers if they did not have to pay UK Purchase Tax on their Elan. This could be achieved, under the tax regime of the day, by supplying a car in ‘Component Form’. This is what Lotus did to increase the appeal of the much admired Elan to a wider motoring public. A buyer could save up to 30% on the price of a fully factory assembled Elan in this way. We would point out, however, that in reality, the Elan was never a kit car or component car, but a car delivered to the customer for final assembly, predominantly using pre-built sub-assemblies. A kit car, also known as a "component car", is one that is available as a set of parts that a manufacturer sells and the buyer then either assembles into a car themselves, or retains a third party to do part or all of the work on their behalf. It was in 1896 that an Englishman, Thomas Hyler White first developed a design for a car that could be assembled at home. His designs were published in a magazine called ‘The English Mechanic’ and he later wrote a book, ‘Petrol Motors and Motor Cars: A Handbook for Engineers, Designers, and Draftsmen’ about his ideas.
