Former Cornell Goalkeeper Signed by Silver Knights

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Silver Knights of the Major League (MISL) have announced the signing of goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer.

Pflasterer joins the Knights on his first professional contract out of Cornell. The former four-year starter with the Big Red set the all-time, lowest single season goals against record (0.60) and set the all-time single season wins for a goalkeeper (15) as a Senior.

The two-time, first team All Ivy goalkeeper led the Big Red to the 2012 Ivy League Title, the school’s first in 35 years, and an appearance in the NCAA Division 1 Tournament with a final record of 15-2-0.

Pflasterer ended his career in Ithaca with the eighth-most saves in team history (165), second-most wins (28), third lowest goals against average (0.77) and second- most shutouts (17).

The Silver Knights expect to use Pflasterer to spell regular starter Bryan O’Quinn for some matches as the Huntington-native settles into the indoor game.

The Syracuse Silver Knights are back in action tonight against their Thruway rivals, the Rochester Lancers. Kickoff is 7:00pm at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Arena in Rochester, NY. The Salt City club will stay on the road against for a rematch with the on December 1 before returning home December 13 to play the expansion club St. Louis Ambush. About The MISL United Soccer Leagues acquired the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in May, 2011 and began operating North America’s most storied and tradition-rich professional indoor soccer league for the 2011-12 season. The MISL represents the top level of professional indoor soccer in North America and consists of seven franchises for 2013-14. The league roster includes franchises in Baltimore, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Reading, Rochester, St. Louis and Syracuse.

The Game MISL indoor soccer was developed to appeal to sports fans around the world. The fast-paced, fiercely competitive game is played on artificial turf on a hockey-rink- sized field surrounded by dasher boards and Plexiglas with eight-foot high by 14- foot wide goals receded into the end boards. Creative dribbling, pinpoint passing, acrobatic goalkeeping and rugged defensive play are all skills demonstrated by MISL players. A typical MISL game features end-to-end-action resulting in approximately 60 shots and 11 goals per game. Each game includes four 15-minute quarters and will feature multi-point scoring in which all goals scored will be worth two points, except those goals scored on shot attempts from on or beyond the 45-foot arc surrounding the goal, which will be worth three points. Other unique characteristics of the MISL include action-packed power plays and free substitution of players while play continues.
