The information which it contains has been compiled chiefly from the Masonic records in the archives of Philip C. The only virtue that is claimed for this work is its cor- rect portrayal of the life of the Rite in Texas.     2011 Commission Report BAJA CALIFORNIA The two groups representing the Grand Lodge of Baja California have now worked out an agreement that has unified them again into one regular Grand Lodge. The leaders of the two groups have signed the agreement, and have assured it will be ratified by both groups. The Grand Lodge of Baja California has now satisfied the standards for recognition. BULGARIA There continues to be no progress in the unification of Freemasonry in Bulgaria. Since they have previously been determined to meet the standards for recognition, there is no interest on the part of the United Grand Lodge of Bulgaria in entering discussions with the Grand Lodge AF&AM of Bulgaria, either for unification or for establishing a treaty to share the jurisdiction. Both of these Grand Lodges appear to practice regular Masonry, and both were of the same origin until they split in 2001. This Commission has urged the two Grand Lodges to resolve their differences for the past seven years to no avail; therefore this issue will not be addressed again until the brethren in Bulgaria reach some type of agreement. CYPRUS The United Grand Lodge of England and the Grand Lodge of Cyprus have reached an accord whereby they will both share the jurisdiction of Cyprus, and have established fraternal relations among themselves. The Grand Lodge of Cyprus therefore now meets all the standards for recognition. CZECH REPUBLIC The Grand Lodge of the Czech Republic informed us that an irregular body calling itself the Czech National Grand Lodge was recently created by a group of dissident members who defected and formed this new organization.

Before then, bovines were products of their environments, giving each region a breed that had adapted to its local climate and vegetation. Then, in the spirit of “animal husbandry,” Victorians sought out and bred cattle that were built for one purpose: to produce beef. Stockmen separated cattle from their native landscapes, shipping Herefords and Durhams all over the world to replace “barbaric” native breeds. At the dawn of OVER MANY FIELDS this new cattle age, English shorthorns, Texas longhorns, and American bison met Katie Twiss on the Kansas prairie.

    Preservation of a Dying Culture: A Study of Sorbian/Wendish Poetry Samantha Hunt Faculty Introduction Dr. Ervin Malakaj Samantha has undertaken an important project. By translating Wendish/Sorbian poetry from German to English, she is contributing to the preservation of a cultural heritage with important roots in Texas/Texas-Wendish/German communities. Though Texas-Wendish/ German culture has previously been researched, the poems here appear for the first time in English translation. Abstract This research outlines the history and culture of the Texas Wends. The Wends are a Slavic group that originated in East Germany and immigrated to the United States in order to preserve heritage. They are bilingual, speaking both German and the Wendish language. The history and culture of the Wendish people have rarely been studied outside of Germany, and only a small amount of their literature has been translated into English. Due to the interaction with both German and American cultures, the Wendish language and culture have nearly disappeared in Texas and Germany. One common way that Wendish culture has been expressed is poetry. This research outlines how Wendish poems are sites where ideas important to the Wendish culture can be registered. Primarily, I uncovered ideas relating to religious faith and culture, which are extensively discussed in Wendish poetry. Moreover, my work shows how translating these poems, makes Wendish poetry accessible to English-speaking audiences, thereby, preserving Wendish culture for a new audience. ► 59 he Sorbians are a Slavic minority who live in the Lusatia region of Teastern Germany and can trace their history to the pre-Christian era (Blasig 1).

These two factions within the Anglo-American population of Texas helped to sway public opinion both for and against armed conflict in the crucial days leading to the revolution. The War and Peace parties cannot be defined easily because they were not established political parties. They were labels faT persons of opposing political dispositions. Both factions surfaced during the disturbances of 1832. Members of the War Party either participated in the disturbances or condoned them. The Peace Party, probably repre­ senting more Texans throughout the period, loudly criticized the agita­ tion.
