1 Exhibition of Art 23-29 August 2016 2 Repose Showcases the works of Odia artists 23-29 August 2016 Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre Bhubaneswar Organised on the eve of Odisha Art Conclave, 2016 Published by Manash Ranjan Jena Hony. Secretary, IPCA Managing Comittee Post Box # 25, G.P.O, Bhubaneswar 751001 Odisha, INDIA Email: [email protected] Design Consultant Ramahari Jena Designed and Printed by Third Eye Communications Bhubaneswar Email: [email protected] 3 Foreword Any art exhibition, more specifically, Repose is a conjunction of time and space; time denoting styles and space the excellence that empowers a place in the art-world. For this reason participating artists remain concerned for creating styles and the curator tries to make the exhibition broad-based and comprehensive. He places the exhibition on a higher pedestal to leave a mark. I would like to congratulate the curator Manash Ranjan Jena for the selection of art-works which represent a stylistic oeuvre from the Colonial to Contemporary. In present days the curator has emerged as a professional who makes a fine balance between the veteran and the promising and sees that the representation is universal. Hope IPCA will be able to showcase more and more deserving artists in its future exhibitions and explore new horizons. Dr. Dinanath Pathy Chairman IPCA Managing Committee 4 Curatorial The exhibition styled Repose showcases paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics and photographs by both the veteran and promising Odia artists living and practicing in Odisha. This is a supportive event to welcome the artists who are visiting their home-land in a “Home Bound We” mood to participate in the Odisha Art Conclave 2016 organised by ILA PANDA FOUNDATION FOR ARTS (IPCA)- They are carrying with them works of art they have executed for IPCA’s permanent collection. Repose is happening a week before and in consonance with the efforts of the Diaspora artist community to showcase import Odia art. Repose upholds the sense of “Make in Odisha” branding. Both the exhibitions together will offer a unique opportunity to the students and lovers of art of this emerging smart city Bhubaneswar. A curiosity will naturally arise to view the “imported” works as an extension of the Repose. Many may try to trace out a link that originated in Odisha and flourished in the cities of Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata( Santiniketan), Baroda and Mumbai. I very much hope that their aspirations for “newness” will meet with an affirmative note. On the home front Repose will establish the efforts of Odia artists who are guarding the home turf against all odds and meager support. We may not put this on record, but there will be a psychological confrontation and may be a “shock” to realize that Repose has the strength to match any kind of contemporary art practiced in Indian cities. Change of place really is ephemeral and finally a matter of choice, not a compulsion. IPCA is trying to make this concept of indigenous more real. One should not have misgivings that Repose is all Odisha, it is but the quintessence of all those “Made in Odisha”. Due to space constraints we have not been able to take more artists in the fold of Repose. There may be many a talented and aspiring artists whose works deserve a display in Repose. I would like to assure that IPCA in near future will reach at their door steps to have the benefit of their artistry. I would like to thank the trustee, especially Srimati Paramita Mahapatra, member of the IPCA Advisory Committee and IPCA Managing committee, particularly its Chairman Dr. Dinanath Pathy whose guidance and co-operation has been valuable. I would also put on record the untiring efforts of H.R.D. of UMSL under the leadership of Bijay Bhusan Rath and last but not the least our sponsors who have supported our cause.
