Introduction Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships are awarded by the Lalit Kala Akademi, a nerve center of creative and cultural discussion in India which was established in 1954 by the former Union Minister of Education Dr. Abul Kalam Azad for the development and promotion of visual and plastic arts in India. Since its inception, the Lalit Kala Akademi has been actively engaged in the search for a fresh cultural identity and nationhood of independent India by rejuvenating and formulating the diverse Indian cultural practices and enhancing study and research in the areas of creative arts namely Painting, Sculpture, Graphics and other the such forms. Today, there is hardly any artist or art critic in India who has not been associated with the Akademi and its activities. An autonomous organization fully funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture under the Government of India, the Lalit Kala Akademi is indulged in giving impetus to creative artists by providing scholarships, making publications on art, conducting various seminars and exhibitions, and creating a common platform for artists and art critics from the all over country for exchange of views as well as ideas. Details of Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships Every year applications for this Scholarship are invited from the Artists, Art-Critics and Art-Historians below 35 years of age for the grant of Scholarship of ₹ 3000 per month for a period of twelve months in the field of Visual Arts. A minimum of 40 scholarships are awarded by the academy, of which not more than 4 scholarships will be given to scholars in any one State or Union Territory. Selected scholars will be required to work in any one of the Regional Centers of the Akademi, which are located in Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and the Garhi Artist Studio near Delhi. Such scholars will be required to submit an undertaking that they will not abandon the scholarship before it will get over: Eligibility Criteria for Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships For application to the Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarships, the minimum and maximum age limits are 21 years and 35 years respectively. The applicant must have been working as artist for at least 5 years at the time of application if he or she is not having any formal qualification. Those undergoing regular studies or engaged in full time employment are not eligible for scholarship.
