Bookmans Grading guide developed in and in general use by booksellers today. As New: No defects, no markings, no library stamps, etc. Dust jacket if one was issued must be immaculate. Again no defects, markings, etc. If dust jacket has any minor damage it must be noted. Very Good: A used book that shows small signs of wear, but no tears in binding, pages or dust jacket. Any defects must be noted. Good: The average used and worn book, with all pages and leaves present. Fair: A worn book that has complete text pages including any maps or plates, but may lack end papers, half title, etc. Condition - obviously, books in good condition are more valuable than their tatty counterparts. That doesn't mean that a battered book is worthless, just not as valuable as a pristine one. Rarity - if there are thousands of first editions in existence, they'll each be worth less than if there were a mere handful. Signed Editions - signatures of the author or the illustrator usually make the book more valuable. Hardback - a hardback book with a dust cover is more valuable than a paperback. Book Clubs - special prints for book clubs, libraries or the like aren't usually very sought after. Known Books - if people haven't heard of the book or the author they aren't likely to pay much for it. Paperback Very useful little book. Book publishers each have their own way of identifying the first edition or more correctly - first printing of any book they produce. This book uses a simplified code system based on the author's experience handling actual first editions. Round to two decimal places. For the following exercises, use to given information to find the length of a circular arc. Find the length of the arc of a circle of radius 5. For the following exercises, use the given information to find the area of the sector. Round to four decimal places. A sector of a circle with radius of 0. How many revolutions per minute do the wheels make? A wheel of radius 14 inches is rotating 0. A CD has diameter of millimeters. When playing audio, the angular speed varies to keep the linear speed constant where the disc is being read. When reading along the outer edge of the disc, the angular speed is about RPM revolutions per minute. Find the linear speed. When being burned in a writable CD-R drive, the angular speed of a CD varies to keep the linear speed constant where the disc is being written. When writing along the outer edge of the disc, the angular speed of one drive is about 4, RPM revolutions per minute. Find the linear speed if the CD has diameter of millimeters. A person is standing on the equator of Earth radius miles. What are his linear and angular speeds? The radius of Earth is miles. Consider a clock with an hour hand and minute hand. What is the measure of the angle the minute hand traces in 20 20 minutes? Two cities have the same longitude. The latitude of city A is 9. Assume the radius of the earth is miles. Find the distance between the two cities. A city is located at 40 degrees north latitude. Assume the radius of the earth is miles and the earth rotates once every 24 hours. Find the linear speed of a person who resides in this city. A city is located at 75 degrees north latitude. Find the linear speed of the moon if the average distance between the earth and moon is , miles, assuming the orbit of the moon is circular and requires about 28 days. Express answer in miles per hour. A tachometer determines that the wheels are rotating at RPM revolutions per minute. Find the speed the bicycle is travelling down the road. A car travels 3 miles. Its tires make revolutions. What is the radius of a tire in inches? A wheel on a tractor has a inch diameter. How many revolutions does the wheel make if the tractor travels 4 miles? In this section, you will: Draw angles in standard position. Convert between degrees and radians. Find coterminal angles. Find the length of a circular arc. Use linear and angular speed to describe motion on a circular path. Figure 1. Figure 2. Figure 4. Figure 5. Figure 6. Figure 7 Quadrantal angles are angles in standard position whose terminal side lies along an axis. Examples are shown. Reduce the fraction to simplest form. Draw an angle that contains that same fraction of the circle, beginning on the positive x -axis and moving counterclockwise for positive angles and clockwise for negative angles. Figure 8. Figure 9. Figure Figure 11 The angle t t sweeps out a measure of one radian. Note that the length of the intercepted arc is the same as the length of the radius of the circle. Figure 12 a In an angle of 1 radian, the arc length s s equals the radius r. Figure 14 Commonly encountered angles measured in degrees. Figure 15 Commonly encountered angles measured in radians. Finding a Radian Measure Find the radian measure of one-third of a full rotation. Find the radian measure of three-fourths of a full rotation. Converting Radians to Degrees Convert each radian measure to degrees. We use the proportion, substituting the given information. Converting Degrees to Radians Convert 15 15 degrees to radians. The resulting angle is coterminal with the original angle. Finding the Length of an Arc Assume the orbit of Mercury around the sun is a perfect circle. In one Earth day, Mercury completes 0. How many miles does it travel in one day? Figure 22 The area of the sector equals half the square of the radius times the central angle measured in radians. Finding the Area of a Sector An automatic lawn sprinkler sprays a distance of 20 feet while rotating 30 degrees, as shown in Figure If necessary, convert the angle measure to radians. The resulting speed will be in radians per time unit. Pre-Calculus For Dummies Cheat Sheet - dummies Ziegler , Karl E. Byleen , David Sobecki. Sample file MAGISTER'S MISCELLANY Of old, the mouths of Mystra made known to all who have Power, this: that by the blessing of the goddess, one mage shall be the Lady’s champion, and master of magery. This one, called the Magister, does not rule, but rather wanders the Realms doing as desired, for good or ill; and in time is cast down by other mages, and the mouths of Mystra shall name a new Magister. Thus the Art shall live and grow, in strife and mystery, and never know the stifling yoke of law nor of authority. And the Art shall grow stronger, for magely ambition grows with skill-in-art, and those waxing stronger will seek out incumbent weakness; from strife-of-art shall come greater strength. In the proper choosing of an enemy, each Magister brings glory, and greater strength, to the office. And in the seeking of that office, each magic brings glory, and greater strength, to the Art. —Albaerum, Sage of Neverwinter INTRODUCTION n 1988, TSR published The Magister - A Sourcebook For The Forgotten Realms. Written by Ed Greenwood (creator of the Forgotten Realms) and Steve Perrin (legendary designer of RuneQuest and Elfquest), it contained a wide variety of spellbooks and magic items. IThis book updates the magic items from The Magister to fifth editionDungeons & Dragons rules. Each has been carefully and thoughtfully updated, but DMs must be forewarned: Most of them are very powerful indeed, and are bound to have a profound impact on your game. The acquisition of one of them should be a character-defining quest, and their distribution should never be taken lightly.
