Juniors:

ACT/SAT Tests Juniors, you will be taking the ACT at school on February 25, 2020. You should also register for the SAT at www.sat.org/register. The ACT and SAT are standardized tests that colleges weigh equally and evaluate in the college admissions process when you apply as a senior. All testing should be finished before the start of your senior year!

ACT/SAT Prep Test Prep HI will be having Spring Break SAT Prep classes for 4 days (March 16 – 19) from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, a 2-day SAT Prep Workshop on March 7 & 8 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm and April 25 & 26 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and an ACT Prep Workshop on February 22 & 23 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Running Start Running Start is a program that allows “eligible” high school students (typically seniors) to take college courses at a University of Hawaii system campus as part of their high school coursework. Students interested in enrolling in Running Start courses for the Fall College Visits 2019 semester should see Ms. Himuro in the CCC. The College Prep Scholars Program equips University of Hawaii, Hilo academically outstanding, low-income students with the (Admitted Students Only) knowledge, confidence, and resources to apply to the nation’s Tues. 3/3 1:10 pm (pd. 5) best colleges. Other Important Announcements

ASVAB The ASVAB Test will be administered at on Friday, March 6th at 8:00 am. This test is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. While this test is for students who are interested in joining the military after high school, it is also a great interest inventory took and any students who want to understand their interests and strengths are encouraged to take it. Come to the CCC to sign up. It’s FREE!

Hawaii Pacific University Preview Day Students are invited to spend the day with Hawaii Pacific University faculty, staff, and current students to learn more about what HPU has to offer and experience what it’s like to be an HPU shark. Meet with registered student organizations and attend student services presentations and academic program sessions. Tours of the newly renovated Aloha Tower Marketplace and optional tours of the Hawaii Loa Campus and Oceanic Institute will be given too! Attend the event and receive a $500 visit grant if you are admitted and enroll at HPU for Fall 2020. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15th. STEM Symposium 4 Girls Registration for the STEM Symposium 4 Girls is now open. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15th at . STEM Symposium (9th to 12th grade) students will have the opportunity to register for three academic sessions where they will hear from and network with women working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields at prominent companies such as The Boeing Company, Genentech, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Waimanalo Health Center, and Queens Medical Center! University of Portland Accepted Student’s Reception The University of Portland will be hosting an Accepted Student’s Reception on Saturday, March 7th from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the Ala Moana Hotel. This event is a great way to get an insider’s view of what it’s like to live and learn on The Bluff. Honolulu National College Fair Colleges from across the country will be at the Hawaii Convention Center for a national college fair. The college fair will be on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 8:30am-11:30am and 5:00pm-8:00pm. This is a great opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges and universities. The fair will be free and open to the public. Preregister for the Honolulu National College Fair and see a list of attending schools online at https://www.nacacfairs.org/honolulu.

Kahua Ho’omau Ola Kahua Ho’omau Ola’s goal is to help students break down barriers and give college a try at Leeward Community College. Academic and Financial support is available for those who qualify. Priority is given to students who: have NO college experience, are Native Hawaiian, demonstrate financial need, have multiple barriers that affect their ability to attend college, and will not be able to attend college without the support of Kahua Ho’omau Ola. Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Program The Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Program is now accepting applications! This year, the TASC scholarship winners will receive an award of $1,000 and a plaque. To be eligible for consideration students must:  Be a senior at one of the participating high schools in Hawaii  Plan to enroll at an accredited U.S. college or university full-time in the fall of 2020  Have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, unweighted  Demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to public service Applications are available in the CCC and must be submitted electronically or postmarked no later than Saturday, April 22nd, 2020.

Hawaii Education Association Scholarship The Hawaii Education Association (HEA) is offering two scholarships of $2,000 each in the academic year 2020-2021 to deserving high school seniors who are HEA members, children of HEA members, or grandchildren or legally adopted grandchildren of HEA members. Members must be in good standing and shall have been members for at least one year. Employees, officers & directors of HEA, and their immediate family members and individuals living in the same household (whether related or not) of such an employee, officer or director are not eligible to apply. These one-year scholarships are offered to graduating students who will enroll in any two- or four-year state or nationally accredited institution of higher learning in the 2020-2021 academic year. Applications are available in the CCC and online at www.hawaiieducationassociation.org. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2020.

American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) High School Scholarship The local chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) is providing college scholarships to high school students that are furthering their education. College scholarships will be awarded to graduating Hawaii high school seniors entering a field of study directly related to Financial/Resource Management (such as Business Administration, Economics, Accounting and Finance). Applications do not need to be affiliated with ASMC or the Federal Government. Applications are available in the CCC and are due on March 20, 2020.

2020 I'm A Bright Kid Foundation Scholarships Ronald E. Bright was an influential educator and theatre director at James B. Castle High School for over 40 years. He impacted thousands of lives, and serves as an inspiration to his students – “Bright Kids”—to this day. The I’m A Bright Kid Foundation was formed after his passing in 2015 as a way to continue his legacy. While renowned for his theatrical productions, Mr. Bright was first and foremost a teacher. The foundation is pleased to announce two scholarship offerings for the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year. The I’m A Bright Kid Foundation Education Award is a cash scholarship available to students pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited college or university, leading to a degree in education. The minimum award is $500. The I’m A Bright Kid Foundation Performing Arts Award is a cash scholarship available to students pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited college or university, leading to a degree in drama, theatre, dance, vocal performance or musical theatre. HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce their 2020 Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors in the Class of 2020. Twelve (12) scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded. For more details, eligibility requirements, and to apply, please visit https://www.hawaiiusafcu.edu/scholarship-app. The completed application and all required documentation, including transcript and letters of recommendation must be postmarked no later than February 12, 2020. Hawaii Schools Federal Credit Union Scholarship Hawaii Schools Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce that it is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a deserving student. The Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who exhibits educational promise and a determination to complete post high school educational endeavors. Individuals interested in applying must submit a completed application with required school documentation and be a member of Hawaii Schools Federal Credit Union before the scholarship application deadline. Applications must be submitted by or postmarked no later than February 14, 2020 for consideration. The scholarship application can be found online at www.hawaiischoolsfcu.org.

Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to Hawaii residents pursuing degrees in Business Administration, or other business-related fields, at any accredited four-year college or university. Four-year scholarships are awarded to students just entering college in increments of $5,000 annually. Assuming eligibility is maintained, a total of $20,000 will be awarded over four years. These awards will cover only the remainder of the student’s originally approved undergraduate program’s cost. Hawaii Self Storage Student Scholarships Since 2005, Hawaii Self Storage (HSS) has awarded financial scholarships to eligible students to pursue and obtain a college degree. This program is designed to help and support students financially to develop into future leaders in our community. Jordan & Cara Odo Leadership Scholarship The Jordan & Cara Odo Scholarship Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student who demonstrates leadership in his/her community. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must: (1) be a senior at a Hawaii high school; (2) attend a two- or four-year college; and (3) have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Hawaii Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (HAHPERD) High School Scholarship The HAHPERD High School Scholarship is looking for Hawaii high school seniors who have a 3.0 GPA or higher, a strong interest in preparing for a career in teaching health, physical education, dance or recreation leadership, and has studied for at least two years in a Hawaii High School. 2020 Citizen-Scholar Award The Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, in partnership with the Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE), will present Citizen-Scholar Awards to outstanding graduating seniors from each high school. Citizen-Scholar Awards are presented to students who best exemplify citizenship in school and the community, contribute to making our state a better place, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better. Recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony and luncheon on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Alohilani Resort Beach and will receive a scholarship for $1,000 to continue higher education. Applications are available in the CCC and must be submitted by February 26th by 3:00 pm.

Women’s League of Central Union Church – Kenneth O. and Doris A. Rewick Educational Aid Fund & Ruth C. Scudder Scholarship. The Women’s League of Central Union Church announces the availability of the Kenneth O. and Doris A. Rewick Educational Aid Fund and the Ruth C. Scudder Scholarship. Both grants are awarded primarily based on character, scholarship, evidence of financial need, and community service and NOT on religious affiliation, as such. In previous academic years, award amounts were $1,000 to $1,500 each. Award amounts may vary from year-to-year and are at the discretion of the Women’s League Executive Board. Application Forms and an Informational Fact Sheet are posted on the Central Union website: https://centralunionchurch.org/community/adult- education/. Only the first fifty completed applications will be reviewed. The deadline for a completed application packet is February 28, 2020.

National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Student Athlete Scholarship In accordance with National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) purpose to promote, facilitate and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system, this scholarship program will foster and recognize the partnership between the NIAAA and secondary education. The scholarships will recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life. University of Hawaii System Scholarships Students planning to attend any of the University of Hawaii System Campuses are encouraged to fill out the Common Scholarship Application available online for the 2020-2021 academic year: https://uhsys.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com. By completing one application, students can be considered for numerous scholarships, including those not based on merit or financial need. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2020.

Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Student-athletes who are high school juniors are eligible to apply for the Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship. The Positive Coaching Alliance awards scholarships of $500-$2,000 to high school athletes, based on their responses to questions pertaining to how they meet the standard defined in Elevating Your Game: Becoming a Triple-Impact Competitor by PCA Founder Jim Thompson. The application is available online at www.positivecoach.org/scholarships and the deadline to apply is May 31, 2020.

Summer Opportunities

Hawaii Pacific Health – 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship Applications for Hawaii Pacific Health’s 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship are now being accepted. This six week paid internship is designed to introduce high school juniors and seniors and college students to the health care industry. As one of the largest health care systems in the state, they encourage students interested in pursuing a career in health care to explore this internship opportunity and take the next step towards a rewarding career. Interns are given the opportunity to interact with experienced health care professionals, learn more about hospital systems and observe how the various departments work together to provide patient care. This program will provide students with the rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the health care industry. Past interns have been able to work in departments such as: Physical Therapy, Child Life, Nursing Units, Surgery, Respiratory, Information Technology, Hospital Operations and many more. Hawaii Undergraduate Initiative (HUI) The Hawaii Undergraduate Initiative (HUI) is a program for incoming freshmen committed to attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Fall 2020. HUI strives to develop college students with a capacity for leadership. Through summer academic coursework, workshops, speakers, co- curricular activities and mentorship opportunities, HUI will prepare incoming UHM freshmen to become confident leaders on campus, in their community, and in their profession. Applicants must be (1) accepted as a Fall 2020 incoming UHM freshman and (2) available to participate in the HUI summer program July 6 – August 14, 2020.
