HOFFMAN Northwestern University As the French conquered Muslim lands in their nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century quest for empire, they encountered multiple and some- times mixed judicial systems among the native populations. Cistus is one of the most characteristic genera of the Mediterranean flora. These species, natives of lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, are present in scrubland and garigue on siliceous ground and often on acid soil; seven species in particular are founded in Sicily. The adaptation of the genus to Mediterranean environments is evident from ecological characteristics such as fire- dependent seed germination; the heat generated by fire is in fact a key germination input. In this view, two experiments were performed to study the effects of high temperature on germination of four Cistus species (C. creti- cus L., C. crispus L., C. monspeliensis L., C. salviifolius L.). In the first, in relation to untreated control, 7 different high temperature pre-treatments (from 70°C to 130°C) for different timings (from 1 to 10 minutes) were analysed in relation to two sowing strategies (soon after the seed collection and after a 6 month period at 5°C to simulate the winter season effects). The pre-treatment with high temperatures can improve the germination; the storage at 5°C to simulate the winter season effects did not modify the germination process. In any case the results showed a species-dependent response. -

Three species of Chalcididae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) were newly recorded from Mo- rocco during a study carried out in the Maâmora forest between 2012 and 2014: Hockeria bifasciata (Walker, 1834), H. mengenillarum (Silvestri, 1943) and Proconura decipiens (Masi, 1929). P. decipiens (Masi, 1929) stat. rev. will be removed from synonymy with P. nigripes (Fonscolombe, 1832). This study includes bibliographical research and revision of specimens deposited in the National Museum of Natural History, Scientific Institute of Rabat (Morocco). Twenty–six species and fourteen genera belonging to the family Chalcididae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) are now catalogued from Morocco. Preserving and Developing Oasis Heritage through Sustainable Agrotourism PROJECT TITLE : PRESERVING AND DEVELOPING OASIS HERITAGE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE AGRITOURISM COUNTRY : Morocco LOCATION : Souss Massa – Tiout Oasis, Taroudant Province SCALE OF INTERVENTION : Territorial Région du Souss Massa - Oasis de TIout © Agence du Bassin hydraulique du Souss Massa INCUBATION LED BY : LOCAL CONTEXT AND ISSUES: : Tiout Oasis is located in the east of the province of Taroudant in the Souss Massa region. It is in the heart of Tiout municipality, which extends over an area covering 18,700 hectares from the Souss plain to the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The centre of Tiout is located on fertile farmland in the plain and covers 8,011 hectares, including the oasis, with a population of 3,000 (stable over the last decade), but with anticipated growth of over 1% due to the area’s agritourism potential. The oasis ecosystem provides a number of services connected to biodiversity, agricultural produce, leisure and culture. This ecosystem is endangered due to decreased water resources and non-sustainable management practices. The tourist potential of the area includes historical features such as a kasbah (fortress) dating from the 16th century, irrigation canals in the palm grove that also feed into mills, two large pools used for irrigation and leisure activities, and the oasis, which was the location for the French film “Les Mille et Une Nuits”. Thanks to its proximity to Agadir, along with agriculture, tourism has become an important source of income for the area, despite undeveloped tourist facilities. Pumping station, Tiout © IOWater Provincial and local development plans identify Tiout as the main town, equipped with numerous public amenities and with potential development hubs to generate opportunities and income. -

This paper presents a review of scientific studies analyzing the biological properties of different species of Cistus sp. Materials and methods. Forty papers that discuss the current research of Cistus sp. as phytotherapeutic agent were used for this discussion. Literature analysis. The results of scientific research indicate that extracts from various species of Cistus sp. exhibit antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cytotoxic and anticancer properties. These properties give rise to the pos- sibility of using Cistus sp. as a therapeutic agent supporting many therapies. In Morocco, Leishmania infantum species is the main causative agents of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). However, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) due to L. infantum has been reported sporadically. Moreover, the recent geographical expansion of L. infantum in the Mediterranean subregion leads us to suggest whether the nonsporadic cases of CL due to this species are present. In this context, this review is written to establish a retrospective study of cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis in northern Morocco between 1997 and 2018 and also to conduct a molecular study to identify the circulating species responsible for the recent cases of leishmaniases in this region. -
