Name of the Department : Directorate of Physical Education & Sports (Sports Department) 1. VISION Strive for “MASS PARTICIPATION” of youth in Games and Sports (Physical Activities) to develop Personal Health, Fitness and Social qualities which will enable them to become worthy citizens of India and in process endeavour to produce National and International level players. If India is to be a strong nation in future the children and youth of today should play otherwise India will be a weak nation tomorrow. 2. MISSION ”Games and Sports are the important dimensions of quality of an Institution of Higher Learning”. Let the youth realize that “Body is the medium of all the endevours”. Body should be strong to achieve heights in any sphere of life. To make youth aware of the importance of Games and Sports (Physical Activities) in the overall development i.e. Physical, Mental, Social and Spiritual. 3. Objectives : i) To ensure “MASS PARTICIPATION” of Students in Games and Sports. ii) To motivate students to achieve Health, Fitness and Social qualities. iii) Special efforts to take Games and Sports to the Tribal Areas which dominate the university jurisdiction in order to harness and develop physical skills and capabilities of tribal students. iv) To achieve excellence in Sports performance. v) Create standard Sports Infrastructure. 4. Important work of the department for last five year. * Organized Inter Collegiate tournament on behalf of Ex. Sports Board. As per Sports Calendar. * Organized Inter University West Zone Volleyball (Men) tournament on behalf of University from 31st December 2008 to 4th January 2009. * Organized Inter University South West Zone Hockey (Women) tournament on behalf of University from 15 December 2010 to 21st December 2010. * Organized All India Inter University Softball (Men & Women) tournament on behalf of University from 21st January 2013 to 30th January 2013. * Executed all the works related with the examination of the private candidates appearing in UG & PG examinations of the university. As per university schedule. * Officers of the department carried out many other important responsibilities given by the university from time to time. * Gave all the due entitlements of the players in time. 14. Future plans of the department. Construction of the following :- a) Squash courts & Table Tennis hall. b) Multi Gymnasium Hall to cater for Wrestling & Judo. c) Weight training and Cardiac exercise hall. d) Swimming pool. Strengths & Weaknesses of the department Strength :- a) Timely execution of sports schedule of the sports events of different level. b) Provision of all the entitlements of the players in time. c) Insurance of all the teams from their inception till their return from the last engagement. d) Excellent cooperation from the one and all concerned with the university sports. e) University teams are giving top most performance in M.P. State Inter University Tournament since its inception i.e. 1994-95. f) The University teams are continuously giving good performance in different games and sports organized under the umbrella of A.I.U. at Zonal and All India Level. Weaknesses :- a) Need of additional technical / non technical / staff in the department. b) Difficulties in execution of plans due to administrative delays. 17. Efforts for Quality sustenance and Assurance in the department. i) Adherence to calendar of events. ii) Strict monitoring of minute details of each even. iii) Through the feedback from Managers, Coaches & Players and all out efforts of the entire sports fraternity of the university.
