He was the founder of two very active religious congregations during a time when other orders were being suppressed; he was a trusted and key liaison between the Papacy and the emerging Italian nation of the Risorgimento; above all, in troubled times, he was the saintly Christian educator who successfully wedded modern pedagogy to Christ's law and Christ's love for the poor young, and thereby deserved the proud title of Apostle of youth.

CONGRESS ATTACHMENT AND TRAUMA EMPATHY AND COMPASSION IN THE PROCESS OF HEALING LONDON JUNE 21-22-23 2019 CONGRESS ATTACHMENT AND TRAUMA Empathy and compassion in the process of healing Since our birth, every relationship with a significant other creates a deep emotional engagement, thus indelibly impressing itself upon our memory and contributing to the development of our own identity. Emotionally meaningful experiences can even have an impact on the activation of specific genes of our DNA, which are then transmitted to the next generations. Human beings build their more concrete, physical structure also based on the quality of their relational experiences; as a matter of fact, the “we-ness” – con- ceived as an experience of connection and resonance with another person at the biological, physiological, emotional and cognitive level – is the most adaptive and evolved way to express their identity. Therefore, from an adaptive point of view, the quality of relational experiences becomes crucially important to guar- antee not only the individual’s well-being, but also for future generations’ sake. The major advances in neuropsychological science have made it clear: ex- panding the horizons of both the research studies and the treatment strategies that are focused on the individual only, thus allowing them to explore the re- lational and collective dimension too, has become really necessary. All these aspects will be the main subjects that will be discussed during the next “Attach- ment and Trauma” Congress, taking place in London in 2019. From the study of the human personality – whose fragmentation, due to trau- ma, leads to structural dissociation – to the development of the individual’s autobiographical memory and identity, a broader perspective including the rela- tional dimension, based on the studies on mirror neurons and epigenetics, will be explored.

FROM THE MUSEUMS TO THE TERRITORY ITINERARIES SIMPLe Ways FROM THE MUSEUMS TO THE TERRITORY ITINERARIES SIMPLe Ways Edited by The province of Lecco Culture Service, Tourism and Sport Network of the Museums of the province of Lecco Planning and Coordination Anna Ranzi in collaboration with Scientific and Technical Committee of the Network of the Museums Editing Eleonora Massai Graphic Design and Printing Cattaneo Paolo Grafiche s.r.l. Oggiono - Annone B.za March 2018 (IIIth Edition) 2 INTRODUCTION The 2018 edition of the cultural tourist itineraries “SIMPLe Ways from the museums to the territory” is only one of many initiatives to help visitors rediscover and enjoy the rich and varied cultural heritage of the province of Lecco. This publication aims to provide the visitor with interest- ing ways to discover the collections in the Lecco Museum System, which counts a total of 30 museums to date. The aim is also to lead the visitor to extend their visit to the area itself with all its heritage sites and multifaceted beauty so that it becomes the real museum to explore. We have created a virtuous network of itineraries which allow local or tourist to visit the area and enjoy the landscape and natural surroundings with an increased awareness of the historic, artistic and architectural heritage. SIMPLe Ways are ten tourist itineraries exploring the Lecco branch of Lake Como, Valsassina, Val San Martino and Brianza, worthwhile destinations for visitors to the area who want to immerse themselves in the spectacular natural surroundings which still bear traces of the local heritage, at times until recently forgotten and only now rebuilt or restored.

The lakes are the main characteristic of Como and Lecco provinces, surrounded by a range of important mountains which open up to the hilly countryside of Brianza to the South, the home to entrepreneurship. We had the idea of preparing a guide that was not only easy to use, but of high quality: therefore, you will find, alongside the usual cultural itineraries that inform you of our national heritage, practical information that can help you to easily discover our region and even the less known places. Subdivided into geographical areas of lake, mountain and plain, the Guide describes the entire territory of Como and Lecco provinces; its history, architecture, art and natural beauty, starting from the “capoluoghi” (main towns) of the province and the lake basin. It then goes on describing the mountain area and cultural features, uncovering the towns and ancient villages, alongside the mountain shelters and peaks. It gives detailed information on walking excursions for all nature lovers, from trekking to all types of sport. The section that describes the plains moves down towards the gentle Brianza hills, travelling through villas and castles and working valleys crossed by the River Adda, as well as parks full of treasures and wonderful views.
