The Borough is divided into 13 wards with 11 wards having 3 councillors, 1 ward with 2 councillors and 1 ward with 1 councillor as representation; making a total of 36 councillors. The Borough elected a Labour administration following the 2015 elections; the Council seats are Labour 26, Conservative 9 and Independent 1. There is an all-out election taking place in May 2019.
