RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDINO FILlPINO BOXING CHAMPION MANNY "PACMAN" PACQUIAO- FOR WINNING THE BOXINCD FIGHT AGAINST 10-TIME WORLD CHAMPION OSCAR DE L4 HOYA WITH AN EIGHTH-ROUND TKO IN THElR NON-TITLE FIGHT AT THE M@M GRAND GARDEN ARENA IN LAS VEGA$, NWADA, U.S.A. ON DECEMBER 6,2008

WH€R€AS, the Philippine Senate has in several occasions paid tribute to outstanding Filipino athletes for their astonishing feat of bringing home pride, honor and glory to the country by winning in international sporting competitions;

WHEREAS, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao came up two weight classes to fight the Maxican World Champion Oscar De La Hoya who dropped down to meet him at 147 pounds. Oscar De La Hoya has become the richest and most marketable star in the boxing arena over a 16-year span and had a big reach advantage over Manny Pacquiao;

WHEREAS, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao defeated the IO-time World Champion Oscar de la Hoya with an eighth-round TKO in their non-title fight in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. on December 6, 2008, thus reinforcing his status as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter;

WHEREAS, moving up two weight classes for his first fight at welterweight, WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao dominated Oscar De La Hoya from the opening bell, defying the longer reach fighter and picking him off with straight left hands to the face;

WHEREAS, the exemplary performance displayed by Filipino champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao cemented the reputation of our country as a breeding ground for world- class boxing champions;

WH€R€AS, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao fought and displayed high quality sportsmanship and fairplay in victory and undoubtedly gave his best to win not only trophies but honor and glory for our country, making him a sport hero.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE 17 RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate to congratulate and commend Filipino boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao for winning the boxing fight against IO-time World Champion Oscar de la Hoya with an eighth-round TKO in their non-title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. on December 6.2008.
