De La Hoya and top-ranked challenger Castillejo will go 12 rounds on Saturday, June 23, at 9 p.m. ET (with the pre-show beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET) at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the Super Welterweight Championship on DISH Network channels 455 and 538 for $40.00.
The World Super Welterweight Championship bout features five-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya (33-2, 27 KOs) in his quest to join future Hall of Famers Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns as the only boxers in history to win championships in five weight divisions. To reach his goal, De La Hoya must defeat current super welterweight champion Javier Castillejo (51-4, 34 KOs), who has successfully defended his title five times. Castillejo has gone undefeated since January 1996, winning 14 consecutive fights, 11 by knockout.
At age 28, De La Hoya is already one of the most celebrated boxers in history. He has collected titles at junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight, and he was the only United States boxer to win a gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. If De La Hoya defeats Castillejo on June 23, he will become the youngest boxer to ever win world titles in five weight divisions, completing the task faster than both Leonard (who was 32) and Hearns (who was 33).
