Building Move

As part of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, the future Mount Dennis Station is being constructed at 3500 West, the former Kodak lands. As part of the development of the site, is preserving the former Kodak building and incorporating it into the design of the futureM Mount Dennis Station. IMAGERY Past • Built in 1939, the only remaining building on site is four storeys high, 11,000 square feet and weighs more than 3,000 tonnes. • The building was not used as a manufacturing facility, but The Former Kodak Building (Building 9), c.1960 City of Archives, Series 3, File 181 rather served as an employee recreation building. • The building has been vacant since 2005.

Present • Metrolinx’s constructor, Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) has excavated and separated the building from its foundation and is moving it 200 feet on steel girders. • When the move is complete, CTS will demolish the foundation, excavate the site and construct a new foundation. • The work will take approximately eight months to complete. Once the new foundation is ready, the building will be moved The Former Kodak Building (Building 9), c.1999 back to its final location, and then tied into the new foundation. Future • Following extensive public consultations (2010-2012), Metrolinx made the decision to repurpose the building to become the main hub of the station with one of three fully accessible entrances. The main level will provide access to GO Transit and Union-Pearson (UP) Express connections, while the lower concourse level will provide access to bus connections or the option to access lower LRT line platforms. • The station will also house a bus loop with connections to a The Former Kodak Building (Building 9), 2016 variety of local transit. In addition to TTC access, the site will feature connections to both GO Transit and the UP Express. • Mount Dennis Station will have high ceilings, large windows and an open-concept design that will allow for large amounts of natural light.
