After the tragic death of his Uncle Ben, Peter understood that with great power there must also come great responsibility. He became the crimefighting super hero called… Part Two Part undead serial killer, part alien god--Cletus Kasady/CARNAGE has returned. For years, every Klyntar symbiote that bonded with an Earthling left a genetic remnant--a “codex”--behind. Carnage intends to take them all. Spider-Man and Venom (Eddie Brock) shielded Carnage’s most vulnerable targets first--Eddie’s son Dylan, and Normie Osborn, son of Peter’s best friend, Harry--bringing them to Eddie’s safe house, the stage for the heroes’ counteroffensive. When Carnage found them, he brought formidable allies including Norman Osborn, recently a patient at the Ravencroft Institute for the Insane. Though he believes he too is Cletus Kasady, Norman headed straight for his grandson. Spider-Man has fended him off so far, but the battle’s been brutal, and Peter’s mind has started wandering to the past… WARNING! "This is one of several dozen books in Patrick Moore's "Practical Astronomy" series. He concludes that China is unlikely to instigate a confrontation with the US, and that whilst military conflict over the Taiwan Strait is possible, this is more likely to be due to China's inability to prevent US involvement than its willingness to provoke the US. She sensed that lodged within the colorful and beautiful rituals and ceremonies of the indigenous Maasai people were gems of wisdom that could be harvested and shared as antidotes for our increasingly complex, stressful, and often enigmatic modern lives. In the face of constant experience to the contrary, the idea that those who have spent long years in acquiring the knowledge of a particular calling will be most ready to welcome the announcement of new discoveries calculated to remove any errors which may exist in connexion with it, and which errors, of course, must have been always instilled into them as truths, is still generally entertained; and, consequently, the first cry against every alteration is, that those who have been educated in the system which it would subvert, are decidedly opposed to its introduction.

  • Extending and Visualizing Authorship in Comics Studies
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Nicholas A. Brown for the degree of Master of Arts in English presented on April 30, 2015 Title: Extending and Visualizing Authorship in Comics Studies. Abstract approved: ________________________________________________________________________ Tim T. Jensen Ehren H. Pflugfelder This thesis complicates the traditional associations between authorship and alphabetic composition within the comics medium and examines how the contributions of line artists and writers differ and may alter an audience's perceptions of the medium. As a fundamentally multimodal and collaborative work, the popular superhero comic muddies authorial claims and requires further investigations should we desire to describe authorship more accurately and equitably. How might our recognition of the visual author alter our understandings of the author construct within, and beyond, comics? In this pursuit, I argue that the terminology available to us determines how deeply we may understand a topic and examine instances in which scholars have attempted to develop on a discipline's body of terminology by borrowing from another. Although helpful at first, these efforts produce limited success, and discipline-specific terms become more necessary. To this end, I present the visual/alphabetic author distinction to recognize the possibility of authorial intent through the visual mode. This split explicitly recognizes the possibility of multimodal and collaborative authorships and forces us to re-examine our beliefs about authorship more generally. Examining the editors' note, an instance of visual plagiarism, and the MLA citation for graphic narratives, I argue for recognition of alternative authorships in comics and forecast how our understandings may change based on the visual/alphabetic split.

PRIVILEGED ATTORNEY-CLIENT COMMUNICATION EXECUTIVE SUMMARY SECOND AMENDED AND RESTATED LICENSE AGREEMENT (“SPIDER-MAN”) CREATIVE ISSUES This memo summarizes certain terms of the Second Amended and Restated License Agreement (“Spider-Man”) between SPE and Marvel, effective September 15, 2011 (the “Agreement”). 1. CHARACTERS AND OTHER CREATIVE ELEMENTS: a. Exclusive to SPE: . The “Spider-Man” character, “Peter Parker” and essentially all existing and future alternate versions, iterations, and alter egos of the “Spider- Man” character. All fictional characters, places structures, businesses, groups, or other entities or elements (collectively, “Creative Elements”) that are listed on the attached Schedule 6. All existing (as of 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that are “Primarily Associated With” Spider-Man but were “Inadvertently Omitted” from Schedule 6. The Agreement contains detailed definitions of these terms, but they basically conform to common-sense meanings. If SPE and Marvel cannot agree as to whether a character or other creative element is Primarily Associated With Spider-Man and/or were Inadvertently Omitted, the matter will be determined by expedited arbitration. All newly created (after 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that first appear in a work that is titled or branded with “Spider-Man” or in which “Spider-Man” is the main protagonist (but not including any team- up work featuring both Spider-Man and another major Marvel character that isn’t part of the Spider-Man Property). The origin story, secret identities, alter egos, powers, costumes, equipment, and other elements of, or associated with, Spider-Man and the other Creative Elements covered above. Brock agreed to bond with it, not only gaining the symbiotes abilities, but also learning everything it knew about Peter Parker. However, before he listens to the Hobgoblin's proposal, he is determined to prove if this is really the Hobgoblin, as he had heard that he had been killed. Jun 05, David Rhodes rated it really liked it. That's not a knock on the graphic novel, but more so on the quality of comic writing that created Venom in the first place. This leads to the Chapel scene And Eddie Brock. Feb 18, Paige rated it it was ok. Jul 22, Logan rated it it was amazing. Fireheart accepts the Rose's job to eliminate Spider-Man, looking forward to testing his powers against one of New York City's famous superheroes. We do eventually get Venom, but his reveal comes as more of a twist to readers than it does an expected development. Jim Shooter Text. It's disappointing really, because a major part of the Spider-Man universe is its character development, and the symbiote is the only one we really have background and development with. He reminds himself that he should have Reed Richards examine the costume as soon as possible.

  • Why Wonder Woman Matters
Why Wonder Woman Matters When I was a kid, being a hero seemed like the easiest thing in the world to be- A Blue Beetle quote from the DC Comics publication The OMAC Project. Introduction The superhero is one of modern American culture’s most popular and pervasive myths. Though the primary medium, the comic book, is often derided as juvenile or material fit for illiterates the superhero narrative maintains a persistent presence in popular culture through films, television, posters and other mediums. There is a great power in the myth of the superhero. The question “Why does Wonder Woman matter?” could be answered simply. Wonder Woman matters because she is a member of this pantheon of modern American gods. Wonder Woman, along with her cohorts Batman and Superman represent societal ideals and provide colorful reminders of how powerful these ideals can be.1 This answer is compelling, but it ignores Wonder Woman’s often turbulent publication history. In contrast with titles starring Batman or Superman, Wonder Woman comic books have often sold poorly. Further, Wonder Woman does not have quite the presence that Batman and Superman both share in popular culture.2 Any other character under similar circumstances—poor sales, lack of direction and near constant revisions—would have been killed off or quietly faded into the background. Yet, Wonder Woman continues to persist as an important figure both within her comic universe and in our popular consciousness. “Why does Wonder Woman matter?” To answer this question an understanding of the superhero and their primary medium, the comic book, is required, Wonder Woman is a comic book character, and her existence in the popular consciousness largely depends on how she is presented within the conventions of the comic book superhero narrative.

Venom is so popular among fans for a reason and his battles with Spidey here are a pretty good showing of why. Details if other :. Especially Peter Parker was not likeable. The used language felt pretty dated.. On the way, he spots Nathan Lubensky having a fit in front of a bank machine as he has maxed out the withdrawal limit from Aunt May's account for the day and he still needs more money. Spider-Man separates himself from it seemingly for good this time, which eventually results in the first appearance of Venom. Spider-Man struggles to get free, managing to push his hand loose from the webbing and grab the clapper. The Black Cat wasn't likeable, Mary Jane wasn't likable. However, Nathan Lubenski answers the phone and scolds Peter for having the nerve to call. He tells them that he has come to take Reed up to his offer to examine his new costume. Peter pulls off his mask, reassuring his wife that it is actually him. The New Mutants provides the first full-length study to consider the relationship between comic book fantasy and radical politics in the modern United States. The only person not attending is Nathan Lubenski who grumpily dismisses the idea of listening to "nursery rhymes".

Radiant Beings: Narratives of Contamination and Mutation in Literatures of the Anthropocene Dissertation Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Kristin Michelle Ferebee Graduate Program in English The Ohio State University 2019 Dissertation Committee Dr. Thomas S. Davis, Advisor Dr. Jared Gardner Dr. Brian McHale Dr. Rebekah Sheldon 1 Copyrighted by Kristin Michelle Ferebee 2019 2 Abstract The Anthropocene era— a term put forward to differentiate the timespan in which human activity has left a geological mark on the Earth, and which is most often now applied to what J.R. McNeill labels the post-1945 “Great Acceleration”— has seen a proliferation of narratives that center around questions of radioactive, toxic, and other bodily contamination and this contamination’s potential effects. Across literature, memoir, comics, television, and film, these narratives play out the cultural anxieties of a world that is itself increasingly figured as contaminated. In this dissertation, I read examples of these narratives as suggesting that behind these anxieties lies a more central anxiety concerning the sustainability of Western liberal humanism and its foundational human figure. Without celebrating contamination, I argue that the very concept of what it means to be “contaminated” must be rethought, as representations of the contaminated body shape and shaped by a nervous policing of what counts as “human.” To this end, I offer a strategy of posthuman/ist reading that draws on new materialist approaches from the Environmental Humanities, and mobilize this strategy to highlight the ways in which narratives of contamination from Marvel Comics to memoir are already rejecting the problematic ideology of the human and envisioning what might come next.
