North & Mid Wales RUGBY Welcome to the latest issue of The North and Mid Wales Rugby Magazine, in which I have tried to include something for everyone, Whatever age or gender. Hope you enjoy it. You may have noticed the new title and size of the magazine, it was something that I felt was necessary so please bear with me as we continue to develop the publication, it’s a work in progress! So, how are everybody’s nerves? I’m tapping this out just after the Wales v Fiji game has finished and, unlike the thousands on social me- dia who are really disappointed to not gain a bonus point, I’m personally overjoyed to find us with a played three, won three record. To me, it’s more at this stage than I ever wished for. Can’t fault the boys and fingers crossed that we have the bounce of the ball and progress further in what is turning into a magnificent tournament. As you’ll see from the league tables in this issue, there’s joy for some and despair for others amongst the clubs in the region. I know it’s early days yet but best of luck to those clubs struggling at the moment, hope you can turn things around and start climbing those leagues. Once you’ve had a read of the magazine, I would welcome your com- ments (no bad language please) as I’m constantly looking for ways to Pictures kindly supplied by Trevor Edwards improve. I will sulk if you say nasty things but don’t let that put you off getting in touch! Once again, a very big thank you to all those wonderful photographers and scribes out there who allow me to use their pictures, reports, etc, it really is very much appreciated. What does is the new TITLE of the arena. In 2008, apparently, both the London and Cardiff Governments stated that Wales is not a ‘principality’ any more. Furthermore, it is a total matter for the Building Society that uses that title to have the right to do so but it is a totally different issue when that title is given to another building not wholly owned by the said Building Society. Then, the Welsh version of the name comes into force. The literal translation of the name is TYWYSOGAETH. Are Welsh speakers, therefore, to call Stadiwm y Mileniwm as Stadiwm y Dywysogaeth in the future? I wish to plead with those in authority within the WRU either to retain the ‘Millennium’ as a name or find a title that slips easily of the tongue in both Welsh and English and one that does not have any political connota- tions. A good example of such a title is EIRIAS in North Wales. I’m feeling a bit better now that I‘ve had that ‘gripe’ off my chest but I’m sure that it will not be all that long until another VM mo- ment arrives.
