May 2019 – Clay Target 1 President’s Notes

Nationals DTL It will be hard to comment positively here without being accused of bias but really who cares. It was a great event and will be fondly remembered by many. Most would know Roma is my home club and Donna and I have dedicated a lifetime to it. I could not have been prouder with the way that Club President Andrew Whyte and his great team presented the grounds , shooting facilities, camping areas, entertainment and catering for all to enjoy. Black targets, as normally used by the club were obviously the right choice and this is reflected in the scores. It seems that the criticism was from mostly those not there shooting L-R: Mackintosh Cup, Glenn Cup, ICTSF World DTL Team Cup, ICTSF World DTL Championship Cup (once again) Equipment worked almost faultlessly and ablutions were kept immaculately clean. One of the things that really struck me at my first Nationals was the amazing support of those who, week-in, Paul McLoughlin week-out, make our sport the great success it is. In this I speak of the sponsors and supporters. Too easily overlooked, I really value the fact that these individuals don’t just walk the walk, they talk the talk. It’s one thing to say you are involved in a sport, it’s another to put your dollars on the line – sometimes with the prospect of little or no return. President and Executive Australian Clay Target Association Po Box 466 Wagga Wagga NSW 2650

Dear Mr Nugent

Letter of Gratification – ACTA Down the Line National Titles 2019

It gives me great pleasure to write to you in your position as President of the Australian Clay Target Association. I would like to express the community’s great thanks for a very successful and beneficial “ACTA Down the Line National Titles 2019”.

The tradition that has been created by holding 3 Down the Line National Titles 1999, 2009, 2019 events highlights the popularity of clay target shooting as a sport throughout our region and nation as a whole, which furthermore has assisted in promoting economic sustainability for Rural Queensland, in particular the Maranoa region.

The community of Roma and surrounds have received great benefits from holding this event in our township as they have done in previous years. Holding the ACTA Down the Line National Titles has aided in a boost of revenue for our local community and businesses, supporting all aspects of hospitality, accommodation and tourism, which are vital to the health of our region, particularly with facing a severe drought.

The positive feedback I have received from participants about Roma is that being in a centralized location and serving multiple states infact reduces travelling time for the competitors, and in addition enhances a new dimension of “Country Queensland” hospitality to the nationals.

In closing I would like to again convey the major economic benefit to the Maranoa community that has been increased by the Roma Gun Club holding the 2019 event. As mentioned above, this is especially welcome as our region is suffering a long term drought.

Best regards,

Cr Tyson Golder Mayor Maranoa Regional Council

The grounds looked a picture in the beautiful sun drenched morning. The challenge was evident once we alighted from our cars. The winds that came up from the south were very strong and gusty and it didn’t ease up all day, making top scores a real challenge. We had visitors from Kempsey and Taree Wingham CTC, and our members also turned up to compete for the first shoot of the year on a very windy and hot day. Our first event was a 50 T DB Continental. As if Continental isn’t challenging enough, doing it into a strong gusting southerly was just a laugh most of the time. Brad Baker 1st in HC Braidyn McKinnon 2nd in HC Occasionally it was downright hilarious. Most of us expected the front markers to be the winners and second hot favourites. However, the practice shooting in the place shooters were as wind from the previous event stood a few shooters in follows – Event 1 50 T good stead. Brad Baker, A Grade, took out first place DB Continental: C with a skinner.
