I Sverige släpps boxen 20 oktober.

1 Three hours of GEORGE HARRISONGS – With and without the Beatles to celebrate his birth which took place this week 72 years ago. PLAYLIST Feb.22nd 2015 2 OPEN/9am George Harrison – Apple Scruffs - All Things Must Pass ‘70 This was a salute to the girls (and sometimes boys) who stood vigil at Apple, Abbey Road and anyplace a Fab was to likely to be. Upon recording the tune, George invited the “Apple Scruffs,” into the studio to have a listen. The Beatles - I Want To Tell You - Revolver (Harrison) Lead vocal: George The backing track was recorded in five takes on June 2, 1966. George Harrison's third song on “Revolver,” was, he later said, "about the avalanche of thoughts that are so hard to write down or say or transmit." Once again Harrison had no idea what to call his composition. The band briefly kicked around random ideas, and the song was recorded under the working title “Laxton's Superb,” a type of apple. It later became known as “I Don't Know,” which was George’s answer when producer George Martin asked whether Harrison had come up with a title. By the day of the final mix (June 6, 1966), Harrison had settled on the title “I Want To Tell You.” Contains the first bass overdub on a Beatles record. Paul had his bass recorded on a different track really allowed for more options when it came time to mix the song. • US Apple LP Releases
Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers. Allegedly, twelve copies with east‐coast covers were made that number "A 0000001". • A History of International Beatleweek (PDF)
The History of International Beatleweek International Beatleweek celebrates the most famous band in the world in the city where it was born – attracting thousands of Fab Four fans and dozens of bands to Liverpool each year. The history of Beatleweek goes back to 1977 when Liverpool’s first Beatles Convention was held at Mr Pickwick’s club in Fraser Street, off London Road. The two-day event, staged in October, was organised by legendary Cavern Club DJ Bob Wooler and Allan Williams, entrepreneur and The Beatles’ early manager, and it included live music, guest speakers and special screenings. In 1981, Liz and Jim Hughes – the pioneering couple behind Liverpool’s pioneering Beatles attraction, Cavern Mecca – took up the baton and arranged the First Annual Mersey Beatle Extravaganza at the Adelphi Hotel. It was a one-day event on Saturday, August 29 and the special guests were Beatles authors Philip Norman, Brian Southall and Tony Tyler. In 1984 the Mersey Beatle event moved to St George’s Hall where guests included former Cavern Club owner Ray McFall, Beatles’ press officer Tony Barrow, John Lennon’s uncle Charles Lennon and ‘Father’ Tom McKenzie. Cavern Mecca closed in 1984, and after the city council stepped in for a year to keep the event running, in 1986 Cavern City Tours was asked to take over the Mersey Beatle Convention. It has organised the annual event ever since. International bands started to make an appearance in the late 1980s, with two of the earliest groups to make the journey to Liverpool being Girl from the USA and the USSR’s Beatle Club.

  • Beatles History – Part One: 1956–1964
BEATLES HISTORY – PART ONE: 1956–1964 January 1956–June 1957: The ‘Skiffle Craze’ In January 1956, Lonnie Donegan’s recording of “Rock Island Line” stormed into the British hit parade and started what would become known as the ‘skiffle craze’ in Great Britain (vgl. McDevitt 1997: 3). Skiffle was originally an amateur jazz style comprising elements of blues, gospel, and work songs. The instrumentation resembled New Or- leans street bands called ‘spasms,’ which relied on home-made instru- ments. Before skiffle was first professionally recorded by American jazz musicians in the 1920s and 1930s, it had been performed at ‘rent parties’ in North American cities like Chicago and Kansas City. Many African- American migrant workers organized rent parties in order to raise money for their monthly payments (vgl. Garry 1997: 87). Skiffle provided the musical entertainment at these parties, as everybody was able to partici- pate in the band, which usually consisted of home-made acoustic guitars or a piano backed by a rhythm section of household instruments, such as a washboard, a washtub bass, and a jug (vgl. McDevitt 1997:16). Jazz trumpeter and guitarist Ken Colyer pioneered the skiffle scene in Great Britain. In 1949, he formed the Crane River Jazz Band in Cran- ford, Middlesex, together with Ben Marshall (guitar), Pat Hawes (wash- board), and Julian Davies (bass). Their repertoire included skiffle songs “to illustrate aspects of the roots of jazz and to add variety to a pro- gramme” (Dewe 1998: 4). After leaving the group in 1951, Colyer mi- grated to the United States to work with jazz musicians in New Orleans.

It is M an image created by German photographer Astrid Kirchherr taken in Hamburg, Germany, in the art studio of her fiancé Stuart Sutcliffe. The subjects of the photograph are members of Stuart’s rock and roll band that had come to Hamburg two years prior, in 1960, having been unable to find work in Liverpool, England. This band called themselves the Beatles and were a rough, unpolished, crude lot upon their arrival. The group consisted of Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and a 17-year-old George Harrison. In Hamburg, they were hired to perform under the worst of conditions, playing before drunken sailors, prostitutes, and drug dealers in the German town still rife with animosity and anger over World War II. Stuart was the best friend of John, the leader of this band, who had met Stuart when both attended the Liverpool College of Art. It was in Hamburg that the band tightened and George Harrison and John Lennon evolved into the act that would take the world by This photograph is my favorite as it captures the confidence of John Lennon as storm.
