  • KLOS Harrisongs B'day 2015
1 Three hours of GEORGE HARRISONGS – With and without the Beatles to celebrate his birth which took place this week 72 years ago. PLAYLIST Feb.22nd 2015 2 OPEN/9am George Harrison – Apple Scruffs - All Things Must Pass ‘70 This was a salute to the girls (and sometimes boys) who stood vigil at Apple, Abbey Road and anyplace a Fab was to likely to be. Upon recording the tune, George invited the “Apple Scruffs,” into the studio to have a listen. The Beatles - I Want To Tell You - Revolver (Harrison) Lead vocal: George The backing track was recorded in five takes on June 2, 1966. George Harrison's third song on “Revolver,” was, he later said, "about the avalanche of thoughts that are so hard to write down or say or transmit." Once again Harrison had no idea what to call his composition. The band briefly kicked around random ideas, and the song was recorded under the working title “Laxton's Superb,” a type of apple. It later became known as “I Don't Know,” which was George’s answer when producer George Martin asked whether Harrison had come up with a title. By the day of the final mix (June 6, 1966), Harrison had settled on the title “I Want To Tell You.” Contains the first bass overdub on a Beatles record. Paul had his bass recorded on a different track really allowed for more options when it came time to mix the song. On U.S. album: Revolver - Capitol LP 3 The Beatles - Blue Jay Way - Magical Mystery Tour (EP) (Harrison) Lead vocal: George Written by George Harrison on August 1, 1967 while vacationing in a rented house in the Hollywood Hills above Los Angeles.

  • US Apple LP Releases
Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers. Allegedly, twelve copies with east‐coast covers were made that number "A 0000001". • Mantras and Sacred Chants
1 Peace Mala Mantras and Sacred Chants Mantras or sacred chants are often written in Sanskrit which is an ancient sacred language from India. Many of the holy books linked with Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism are written in this language. The word ‘mala’, is from the Sanskrit language and means ‘garland of flowers’. In the East a mala is a string of beads used in meditation or prayer as each bead or ‘flower’ focuses on a prayer or mantra. You can see mala beads in this photo where the Buddhist practitioner is about to chant mantras to Medicine Buddha. Copyright © Pam Evans 2011 (revised 2020) www.peacemala.org.uk “Creative education that empowers and embraces all Uniting the World in Peace” “Addysg greadigol sy’n grymuso ac yn cofleidio pawb Uno'r Byd mewn Heddwch” 2 The word ‘mantra’ is also from the Sanskrit language and describes a sacred sound or group of words used in chanting. Mantras are repeated in order to focus the mind or consciousness. The oldest mantras composed in Sanskrit are at least 3000 years old. Some teachers refer to mantras as ‘mind protection’ or ‘secret speech’. This is because concentrating on mantras, and counting mala beads at the same time, helps to block out distracting thoughts. Western scientists are beginning to discover that the chanting of mantras has health benefits and helps to calm the mind and nervous system. The word ‘mantra’ can be broken down into two parts: ‘man’, which means mind, and ‘tra’, which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.
