    MEDIA RELEASE Monday 9th March 2015 Swing The Beatles It is difficult to imagine the music of The Beatles without a guitar. Yet that is what Liverpool born singer and Brisbane resident Craig Martin has done. In a stroke of initiative Craig contacted Sony/ATV who now own 99% of the copyright to The Beatles songs and sought permission to have the Fab Four’s songs arranged swing style - but without a guitar in sight! The concept of no guitar in the swing arrangement really impressed the management of Sony/ATV as very few artists, if any, have ever covered Beatles songs without a guitar. It helped, also, that Craig Martin had grown up in Liverpool and as a teenager had played lots of venues where The Beatles had performed - The Cavern, The Jacaranda and had performed with other Merseyside greats over the years - Gerry Marsden, The Searchers and Billy Kinsley from The Merseybeats. Having been given permission from Sony/ATV to arrange 25 of The Beatles songs Craig used several talented arrangers around Brisbane and even legendary Aussie arranger Ed Wilson of Daly -Wilson Big Band fame to put their individual stamp on songs like Can’t Buy Me Love, Hey Jude, In My Life, Get Back, Yesterday. Sony/ATV told Craig that he is the only artiste in the world with permission to perform this many ‘swing’ Beatles songs in a show. In a World Premiere Craig Martin and his Swing Band perform ‘The Beatles Swing’ for the Gold Coast Jazz & Blues Club at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Friday 13th March.

    CATHARUM Revista de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades del Instituto de Estudios Hispánicos de Canarias · nº14, 2015 Los Beatles De Liverpool a Hamburgo Adrian McGrath Esta presentación es la historia del nacimiento de los Beatles dentro del contexto de un viaje de Liverpool a Hamburgo: desde sus comienzos humildes en el Liverpool de la segunda guerra mundial hasta su visita a Hamburgo en agosto de 1960, la primera de las cinco que hicieron a la ciudad alemana. Cuatro meses después de su última visita a Hamburgo en diciembre de 1962, tres miembros del grupo, Paul McCartney, George Harrison y Ringo Starr, aterrizaron en el aeropuerto de Los Rodeos en Tenerife para pasar, casi desapercibidos, sus últimas vacaciones tranquilas antes de hacerse famosos. Los Beatles en Tenerife. Ringo, George y Paul Quisiera destacar los momentos clave ocurridos durante este viaje además de los per- sonajes que desempeñaron un papel importante durante esta etapa fundamental en las vidas de los Beatles. «Cuatro chicos que sacudieron al mundo». PLAYLIST Feb.22nd 2015 2 OPEN/9am George Harrison – Apple Scruffs - All Things Must Pass ‘70 This was a salute to the girls (and sometimes boys) who stood vigil at Apple, Abbey Road and anyplace a Fab was to likely to be. Upon recording the tune, George invited the “Apple Scruffs,” into the studio to have a listen. The Beatles - I Want To Tell You - Revolver (Harrison) Lead vocal: George The backing track was recorded in five takes on June 2, 1966. George Harrison's third song on “Revolver,” was, he later said, "about the avalanche of thoughts that are so hard to write down or say or transmit." Once again Harrison had no idea what to call his composition. The band briefly kicked around random ideas, and the song was recorded under the working title “Laxton's Superb,” a type of apple. It later became known as “I Don't Know,” which was George’s answer when producer George Martin asked whether Harrison had come up with a title. By the day of the final mix (June 6, 1966), Harrison had settled on the title “I Want To Tell You.” Contains the first bass overdub on a Beatles record. Paul had his bass recorded on a different track really allowed for more options when it came time to mix the song.     Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers. Allegedly, twelve copies with east‐coast covers were made that number "A 0000001".
