Ministry of Education Ministère de l'Éducation Early Learning Division Division de l’apprentissage des jeunes enfants Mowat Block, 24th floor Édifice Mowat, 24e étage 900 Bay St. 900, rue Bay Queen’s Park Queen’s Park Toronto ON M7A 1L2 Toronto ON M7A 1L2 2011: EL1 MEMORANDUM TO: Directors of Education FROM: Jim Grieve Assistant Deputy Minister DATE: March 2, 2011 SUBJECT: Full-Day Kindergarten 2012-13 (Year 3) Site Selection Confirmation In 2012/13, we will reach the midpoint of implementation of Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten (FDK). At this stage, approximately 49% of kindergarten students in Ontario will be participating in the program. This is a tremendous achievement made possible by the dedication and hard work of District School Boards, Consolidated Municipal Service Managers/District Social Services Administration Boards, and Best Start Networks. Working together, you enable us to move forward in realizing the government’s vision of full-day kindergarten. Your ongoing leadership and collaboration is a key component of the program’s success. We encourage you to continue to plan and work collaboratively with each other, and with the regional Early Learning Division Education Officers. Ministry of Education staff worked collaboratively with boards to review your recommended Year 3 site selection proposals and associated capital funding requests. We analyzed and reviewed boards’ submissions based on the planning parameters and guidelines outlined in Memorandum 2010: EL11, distributed on October 5, 2010. The Ministry is pleased to provide you with the list of all approved FDK sites in Ontario for 2012/13 (see Appendix 1). Approximately 900 additional FDK sites will be added in Year 3 across the province. Funding details for FDK in 2012/13 will be announced in the future. INFORMATION RESOURCES AND SUPPORT If you should require further information or support, please contact the Education Officers from the Early Learning and Child Care Implementation Branch. They should be your first contact for further information about FDK, including Year 3 implementation. Education Officers are assigned to all six regions in Ontario: Barrie, London, Ottawa, Sudbury/North Bay, Thunder Bay and Toronto. If you have any inquiries on your capital allocations please contact the Ministry capital analyst assigned to your board.
