Passoni CRB-8 7302 4 APRESENTAÇÃO Apresentamos os Anais do IV Simpósio de Biociências e Microbiologia, composto por resumos expandidos apresentados por pesquisadores de todas as partes do Brasil, no evento que aconteceu entre os dias 30 de novembro e 01 e 02 de dezembro de 2020, em formato remoto devido à atual pandemia do COVID-19. O Simpósio de Biociências e Microbiologia nasceu com a união dos antigos Simpósio de Genética e Simpósio de Microbiologia, organizados por pós-graduandos dos PPG em Biociências e em Microbiologia, respectivamente, com o ideal de realizar uma programação que ultrapasse os conhecimentos de barreiras e que amplie horizontes a fim de alcançar novas oportunidades. Dessa forma, busca-se propiciar intercâmbio de informações, conhecimento e experiências de pesquisa entre os participantes, especialmente entre os próprios alunos dos Programas de Pós-graduação em Biociências e em Microbiologia do Instituto de Biociências, Letras e Ciências Exatas - IBILCE/UNESP de São José do Rio Preto-SP e, também, entre diversos profissionais do instituto e região. Os resumos expandidos que compõem esses Anais são produções científicas de alta qualidade e apresentam resultados de pesquisas em diversas fases de desenvolvimento, de modo que posteriormente possam ser aperfeiçoadas e, quiçá, serem transformadas em trabalhos completos a serem publicados em revistas de alta qualidade e credibilidade acadêmica. Os trabalhos estão organizados de acordo com a área a que pertencem, sendo divididos em: Biologia Celular e Estrutural, Genética Animal e Evolução, Genética Humana e Médica, Microbiologia de Alimentos, Microbiologia Industrial e Biotecnológica, Microbiologia Médica e Virologia. Esses Anais são compostos por um conjunto de estudos que representam o debate nacional cumprindo uma dupla função, seja para livre circulação da informação, seja como objeto de consulta para nortear o desenvolvimento futuro de novos trabalhos. É com este propósito que nos orgulhamos de trazer ao público uma publicação científica e pluralista que, seguramente, contribuirá para o conhecimento de pesquisadores de todo o Brasil em conteúdos relacionados à pesquisa biológica, em seus vários tópicos. Five new species of the genus Drosophila Fallén, 1823 belonging to the tripunctata group are described and illustrated: D. warmi sp. nov., D. kurillakta sp. nov., D. chichu sp. nov., D. saraguru sp. nov. and D. ayauma sp. nov. from the forests of Podocarpus National Park. The fi rst species is ascribed to subgroup II of Frota-Pessoa (1954), the second species to subgroup IV, and the last three species are not assigned to any subgroup. Abstract: Fungal endophytes are the most ubiquitous plant symbionts on earth and are phylogenetically diverse. Studies on the fungal endophytes in tobacco have shown that they are widely distributed in the leaves, stems, and roots, and play important roles in the composition of the microbial ecosystem of tobacco. Herein, we analyzed and quantified the endophytic fungi of healthy tobacco leaves at the seedling (SS), resettling growth (RGS), fast-growing (FGS), and maturing (MS) stages at three altitudes [600 (L), 1000 (M), and 1300 m (H)]. We sequenced the ITS region of fungal samples to delimit operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and phylogenetically characterize the communities. The result showed the number of clustering OTUs at SS, RGS, FGS and MS were greater than 170, 245, 140, and 164, respectively. At the phylum level, species in Ascomycota and Basidiomycota had absolute predominance, representing 97.8% and 2.0 % of the total number of species. We also found the number of unique fungi at the RGS and FGS stages were higher than those in the other two stages.

The hierarchy-threshold model for host-choice in insects predicts positive genetic correlations between use of different hosts, and between host use and the number of eggs carried by females. Life history theory predicts negative covariance between reproductive capacity and lifespan; hence host use and lifespan should be negatively correlated. These predictions were tested in half-sib breeding designs with the cosmopolitan Drosophila busckii. The predictions of the hietarchy-threshold model were met, supporting previous findings with other Drosophila. Predictions from life-history theory were not met for the population studied. We used this dataset to examine their evolutionary relationships along with the evolution of feeding behavior. Our analysis recovers strong support for the monophyly of the testacea but not the quinaria group. Results from our ancestral state reconstruction analysis suggests that the ancestor of the testacea and quinaria groups exhibited mushroom- feeding.

Crews and Lauren A. Esposito* Abstract Background: The immense geologic and ecological complexity of the Caribbean has created a natural laboratory for interpreting when and how organisms disperse through time and space. However, competing hypotheses compounded with this complexity have resulted in a lack of unifying principles of biogeography for the region. Though new data concerning the timing of geologic events and dispersal events are emerging, powerful new analytical tools now allow for explicit hypothesis testing. Arthropods, with varying dispersal ability and high levels of endemism in the Caribbean, are an important, albeit understudied, biogeographic model system. Herein, we include a comprehensive analysis of every publicly available genetic dataset (at the time of writing) of terrestrial Caribbean arthropod groups using a statistically robust pipeline to explicitly test the current extent of biogeographic hypotheses for the region. Results: Our findings indicate several important biogeographic generalizations for the region: the South American continent is the predominant origin of Caribbean arthropod fauna; GAARlandia played a role for some taxa in aiding dispersal from South America to the Greater Antilles; founder event dispersal explains the majority of dispersal events by terrestrial arthropods, and distance between

    ON THE BIOLOGY OF DROSOPHILA IMMIGRANS STURTEVANT WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE GENETIC STRUCTURE OF POPULATIONS1 WARREN P. SPENCER College of Wooster TAXONOMY The species which forms the subject of this account was first identified by Sturtevant (1918) as Drosophila tripunctata Loew. After re-examination of type material he described it as a new species, Drosophila immigrans (Sturtevant, 1921). Duda (1924) splits the Drosophila into a number of subgenera and places this species in the subgenus Spinulophila, subgen. n. He separates Drosophila s. str. from Spinulophila on the basis of a row of short, black bristles on the inner aspect of the first femur in the latter. Sturtevant (1939) in a recent careful study based on the comparison of many species of Drosophila in respect to a large series of external and internal characters has considered a number of Duda's subgenera to be invalid. He proposes dividing the genus into three subgenera. On this basis D. immigrans falls into the Drosophila s. str. We include here the taxonomic description taken from Sturtevant's (1921) monograph on the North American species of Drosophila. Male.—Arista with about six branches above and three below. Antennae yellow. Front over one-third width of head, wider above, yellow; ocellar dot dark brown. Second orbital one-fourth size of other two. Second oral bristle over one-half length of first. Carina broad, flat; face yellow. Proboscis yellow. Cheeks yellow; their greatest width about one-third greatest diameter of eyes. Eyes with rather thick pile. Acrostichal hairs in eight rows; no prescutellars. Mesonotum and scutellum dull brownish-yellow.

In the 17 years since the last familywide taxonomic analysis of the Drosophilidae, many stud- ies dealing with a limited number of species or groups have been published. Most of these studies were based on molecular data, but morphological and chromosomal data also contin- ue to be accumulated. Here, we review more than 120 recent studies and use many of those in a supertree analysis to construct a new phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus Drosophila and related genera. Our knowledge about the phylogeny of the genus Drosophila and related gen- era has greatly improved over the past two decades, and many clades are now firmly suppor- ted by many independent studies. The genus Drosophila is paraphyletic and comprises four major clades interspersed with at least five other genera, warranting a revision of the genus. Despite this progress, many relationships remain unresolved. Much phylogenetic work on this important family remains to be done. K. van der Linde & D.
