Key Subject The most important subjects required in order to secure admission as a law student is: Advertisements 1. English 2. Kiswahili This means that you must score a minimum of a B in any of the mentioned subjects. Cluster Subjects 1. CLUSTER SUBJECT 1 ENG / KIS 2. CLUSTER SUBJECT 2 MAT A / MAT B / BIO / PHY / CHE / BIO / GSC 3. CLUSTER SUBJECT 3 HAG / GEO / CRE / IRE / HRE 4. CLUSTER SUBJECT 4 BIO / PHY / CHE / BIO / GSC / HAG / GEO / CRE / IRE / HRE / HSC / ARD / AGR / WW / MW / BC / PM / ECT / DRD / AVT / CMP / FRE / GER / ARB / KSL / MUC / BST Cut-Off Points Cut-off points are derived from the four cluster subjects that the student scored highest from every cluster category. Each subject has a maximum of 12 cluster points representing A-grade and a minimum of 1 cluster point representing E-Grade. 1/3 In the 2019 KUCCPS placement, University of Embu admitted students with the lowest cluster points of 34.914 while the University of Nairobi, admitted with the highest cluster points at 41.880 followed closely by Kenyatta University at 41.336 then Jomo Kenyatta University at 40.676. The factors that determines the minimum cluster points that a student should acquire for placement are demand for course, University policy and maybe policy from the Law Society of Kenya. Duration / Time Scope Bachelors degree (LLB) takes four years to complete upon which, the graduate must then join Law School of Kenya to pursue a diploma in Kenyan laws. Diploma in Laws programme shall be offered for 4 semesters and shall consist of not less than 24 units. The programme shall not be less than 2 academic years and not more than 4 years on full time or part time basis. In total, to legitimately pursue laws in Kenya and be an advocate of the court of law, it will take utmost seven years of learning and practising law. Riara University 14. UMMA University 15. University of Embu Nature of Jobs that a Lawyer does 1. Legal officer in a Company 2. Ombudsman 3. Advocate in the Court of Law 4. Owning a Law Firm 5. A lawyer can serve in the military and police as a legal advisor or advocate in Law Courts 6. Prosecutor / Clerk in the Court of Law 2/3 7. Magistrate 8. Judge 9. Chief Justice 10. Attorney General 11. Speaker in the County Assembly or National Assembly 12. Director of Prosecution (DPP) 13. Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Legal affairs or even Devolution Ministry 14. A lawyer can also qualify to be the a Governor, Deputy Governor, Member of Parliament, Member of County assembly, IEBC, KACC or President of the Republic of Kenya so as long as he/she is subjected to electoral legal processes. These efforts have had profound effects on university students, faculty and professionals who provide the vital student support services necessary for academic success. This case study explores the challenges that face Kenyan student services professionals within the context of the country’s history and cultures. Kenya’s student service professionals face four major challenges: the increasing costs of attendance, the resulting impact on student behaviours and actions, lack of training and senior leadership, and regular campus closures. Keywords student affairs, accommodation, student housing, student services, university environment, higher education. The challenges of student affairs at Kenyan public universities Kenya is increasingly turning to the promise of mass higher education, meaning a shift from an elite to an open system of access, to help solve a range of economic and social problems (Jowi, 2009; Kenya Vision 2030, 2007). The national government has made its commitment to post-secondary education evident through the addition of over 25 public universities and constituent colleges since 1994 and its adoption of policies encouraging rapid enrolment growth in nearly all post-secondary institutions. Between 2010 and 2013, Kenya made nearly 20 constituent colleges and branch campuses into stand-alone universities. Even with this growing capacity, Kenya’s demand for access to affordable higher education far exceeds the system’s ability to deliver quality instruction and student support (Ngolovoi, 2010; Owuor, 2012).

Ndede-Amadi Technical University of Kenya, Nairobi, Kenya ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the time and level of Information Systems (IS) awareness among Kenyan university students and the choice of IS as a field of specialization. The study posited that the choice of a field of specialization is dependent upon a student’s awareness of its existence, its utilization in the real world, its career opportunities, and its strategic importance to the country’s economic development agenda. It posited further that early IS awareness could have a positive impact on the choice of IS as a field of specialization. The underlying assumptions were that the time of IS awareness as a field of specialization among Kenyan university business students was late and levels low, leading to possible low levels of choice of IS as a field of specialization. Using the survey method, the case study found late and low levels of IS awareness as a field of specialization among university business students. Future studies linking time and levels of IS awareness with choice of IS as a filed of specialization and with existence of requisite IS skills in the country (or lack thereof) are suggested.     SCIENCE IN KENYA Scientific institutions in Kenya include the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology for Africa, in Nairobi; coffee and tea research foundations; grasslands and plant-breeding research stations; and numerous centers for medical, agricultural, and veterinary research. Medical research focuses on the study of leprosy and tuberculosis. The National Council for Science and Technology advises the government on scientific matters, and the Kenya National Academy of Sciences promotes advancement of learning and research; both organizations were founded in Nairobi in 1977. The University of Nairobi, founded in 1956, has colleges of agriculture and veterinary sciences, health sciences, architecture and engineering, and biological and physical sciences. Kenyatta University, founded in 1939 at Nairobi, has faculties of science and environmental education. Moi University, founded in 1984 in Eldoret, has faculties of forest resources and wildlife administration, science, technology, information sciences, environmental studies, health sciences, and agriculture. CUE is mandated to ensure the maintenance of standards, quality and relevance in all aspects of university education, training and research in Kenya.
