Republic Cement & Building Materials- Bulacan Plant (REPUBLIC CEMENT & BUILDING MATERIALS- BULACAN PLANT) MPSA no. 026-94-111 I. INTRODUCTION a. Brief history/overview of the company The existing quarry and cement manufacturing plant of RCBM - Bulacan Plant are situated within Barangay Minuyan in the Municipality of Norzagaray, Province of Bulacan. It is around 40 kilometers northeast of Metro Manila. The whole area is approximately bounded by 14o15'45" to 14o54'15” North latitudes and 121o05'00” to 121o30'00” East longitudes. RCBM – Bulacan Plant’s operation is surrounded by similar ongoing operations such as, Lafarge- Holcim Cement Corporation to the N-NW and of the Republic Cement – Norzagaray plant (previously COC) to the S-SE. Access to the RCC- Bulacan Plant operations and properties are either through Quirino Highway from Quezon City or through the North Expressway via Sta. Maria, Bulacan. The main plant itself is about one kilometer from the National Highway. The municipality of Norzagaray is situated at the southeastern end of Bulacan bordering the Municipality of Montalban in Rizal Province. It is bounded on the north by the Municipality of Dona Remedios Trinidad, by the Municipalities of Angat and Santa Maria on the west and by the City of San Jose del Monte on the southwest. It is part of the third Congressional District of Bulacan together with Angat, San Rafael, San Ildefonso and San Miguel, all on the eastern side of Bulacan. Norzagaray is divided into thirteen barangays with an estimated total land area of some 30,819 hectares excluding some 1,607 hectares of contested areas with Dona Remedios Trinidad and San Jose del Monte. The Municipality could be reached via two (2) routes. When coming from Manila, one could take Quirino Highway that would pass Lagro area and eventually lead to Norzagaray, Bulacan. Another approach to reach the aforesaid municipality is by taking the North Expressway, taking the Bocaue interchange, which then passes through Sta. Maria, Bulacan. Barangay Minuyan, the host barangay, is bounded by Barangays Bigte, San Mateo, Matictic, and Bitungol. It has an area of approximately 861 hectares and has 17 sitios. Minuyan is about 3 % of the total land area of the municipality of Norzagaray. Barangay Minuyan is easily accessible because the Quirino highway traverses within the barangay. b. Objectives of the relief operations, mode of distribution or manner of implementation The objective of the Republic Cement Bulacan Plant is to help in the relief operations of its host and neighboring barangay, as well as the Norzagaray LGU. Bulacan Plant helped in supplying rice, bottled water and medicines to augment the BLGUs capacity to sustain the flow of the basic needs of the community. Except for the daily distributions of meals for the barangay tanods manning the checkpoints, BUL Plant turned over the items to the LGUs. c. • Bulacan's Old Brick Train Stations: Reminders of a Century Past
Bulacan's Old Brick Train Stations: Reminders of A Century Past Before the advent of all light rail transits in the metro (MRT 3, LRT1, LRT2, MRT 7), there was the Ferrocaril de Manila-Dagupan first, a heavy railway that runs from Tutuban in Manila all the way to Dagupan, Pangasinan. This railway was opened during the latter part of the Spanish Occupation in November 1892, just when the revolution against the Spanish authority is about to break out. Ferrocarril de Manila-Dagupan, Bulacan Section. The province of Bulacan, as well as its citizen benefited much from this railway because the transportation became easier for them, and traveling to Manila or up north until Dagupan, became much more comfortable. The movement of products from the province to other neighboring provinces, towns, and cities also became much more fluid. Seven stations were built in Bulacan, starting from Meycauayan, then Marilao, Bocaue, Bigaa (Balagtas), Guiguinto, Malolos Y Barasoain, and finally Calumpit. For so many decades, these railway and train stations became part of Bulakenyo's life and consciousness. Everyday, the trains would pass by and people from the towns where stations can be found hustle around riding or alighting from the train. Some of them are busy offering their goods to the passengers around the stations while some are just loitering around to watch the trains and people come and go. Now, after more than a hundred year, only the brick train stations of the railways remains. In Bulacan, there are still 5 remaining stations of which one (1) is totally in ruins while 4 are still mightily standing (whole, or in part).
