  • Liturgy of Mary a Holy Hour
Liturgy of Mary A Holy Hour Prayer Focus: In this liturgy we reflect on the ever expanding motherhood of Mary. The journey takes us through the significant milestones of her life until she becomes mother of us all. Suggested Hymns for Gathering: Contemporary: Here I am (Psalm 40) (Gather 47); Canticle of the Turning (Gather 376); Let God’s dream be born (As One voice 30/2); Hail Mary, full of Grace (Alleluia Aotearoa 58); Our Lady of the Southern Cross (WYD website www.wyd2008.org ) Traditional: Immaculate Mary; Mary Immaculate Star of the Morning; Mo Maria 19 Welcome and Introduction Hymn or music Opening Prayer Ever living God, your people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. May Mary’s Magnificat, the gift of a mother’s love, be the joy of your people. May her hope and her faithfulness kindle courage in our hearts. May her humble response draw your Spirit to rest anew upon us all. We ask this in the name of Jesus, born of a Virgin and Son of God. Amen. Luke 1:26-38 Let it be with me according to your word. (PAUSE) Reflection (Pause after every point) • Mary, Gabriel journeyed from heaven to earth to herald the beginning of your journey to motherhood of all people. Your strength and openness to God’s will allowed you to make such a radical act of faith. • The Magi journeyed from the East to bring their gifts to your firstborn son. Did you have any inkling of the joys and sorrows that would colour your lives? • Mary, in all the journeys of your life with Jesus you kept faith with the promise God made to you.

  • MARY, CO-REDEMPTRIX (Based Primarily on the Writings of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta)
Copies permitted, provided no changes are made. MARY, CO-REDEMPTRIX (based primarily on the writings of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta) Introduction In May of 1997, Pope John Paul II wrote a letter to the Rogationist Fathers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the occasion of the centenary of their founding by St. Hannibal Di Francia. In the Pope’s letter, which was published in the l’Osservatore Romano, he stated that the Holy Spirit wishes to give Christians a “new and divine holiness” at the dawn of the Third Millennium. On August 15, 1998, the John Paul II Institute of Christian Spirituality was founded in the United States of America to make better known this “new and divine holiness.” Its founder and collaborators had been studying this “new and divine holiness” for as long as 25 years prior to the founding of this Institute. We at the Institute believe that this “new and divine holiness” demonstrates the principle in St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans (5:20) concerning sin and Grace that there is a tremendous Grace being given in our times, abounding greater than the increasing sin that pervades the present times of our world. The principal exemplar of this “new and divine holiness” is the Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta, whose cause of beatification and canonization is currently being processed in Rome. The diocesan phase of her cause closed in October of 2005, eleven years after its opening in November of 1994 on the Feast of Christ the King. The Institute has incorporated in its study of this “new and divine holiness” the lives and writings of other 20th century persons of extraordinary holiness, some of whom have been blessed with graces and gifts which seem to exceed that of any of the saints of prior centuries.

Entrust yourselves to her with confidence, take recourse often to her intercession, so that she will help you to stay awake and vigilant. For my part, I assure you of my affection and daily prayer, while I bless you all from my heart. On Christ, the New Adam – General Audience, December 3, 2008 I invite you to rediscover, in the spiritual climate of Advent, intimacy with Christ, placing yourselves in the school of the Virgin Mary. … Finally, I exhort you, dear newlyweds, to be builders of genuine Christian families, being inspired in the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth, whom you should look to particularly in this time of preparation for Christmas.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE MARY IS THE MODEL OF CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF THE THEOLOGY DEPARTMENT IN PARTIAL REQUIREMENT FOR MASTER OF ARTS IN THEOLOGY BY SR. JOLLY JOSEPH DANIELSON, CT 2012 Introduction What does Mary mean to us today? The Blessed Virgin Mary has an important place in the life of every Christian. She accompanied Jesus from His conception in her womb until His death on the cross. In doing so she followed Jesus in a perfect manner. Since we as Christians are the followers of Jesus, Mary is able to show us how to follow Jesus. Therefore, I will endeavor to explain how the Blessed Virgin Mary’s life is a model of Christian discipleship. The first chapter of this thesis will recount how Mary is described in the New Testament. The New Testament begins its account of Mary’s life with the Annunciation. The Archangel appears to her and announces her selection to be the mother of Jesus.

  • The Holy See
The Holy See SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY POPE FRANCIS ANGELUS Saint Peter's Square Tuesday, 8 December 2015 [Multimedia] Dear Brothers and Sisters, Good morning and happy feast day! Today the Feast of the Immaculate Conception leads us to contemplate Our Lady who, by unique privilege, was preserved from original sin from the very moment of her conception. Even living in a world marked by sin, she was not touched by it: Mary is our sister in suffering, but not in evil or in sin. Instead, evil was conquered in her even before deflowering her, because God had filled her with grace (cf. Lk 1:28). The Immaculate Conception signifies that Mary is the first one to be saved by the infinite mercy of the Father, which is the first fruit of salvation which God wills to give to every man and woman, in Christ. For this reason the Immaculate One has become the sublime icon of the divine mercy which conquered sin. Today, at the beginning of the Jubilee of Mercy, we want to look to this icon with trusting love and to contemplate her in all her splendour, emulating her faith. In the Immaculate Conception of Mary we are invited to recognize the dawn of the new world, transformed by the salvific work of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The dawn of the new creation brought about by divine mercy. For this reason the Virgin Mary, never infected by sin and always full of God, is the mother of a new humanity.
