KONGRESNO-KOMERCIALNA DEJAVNOST CANKARJEVEGA DOMA ............ 101 2 Poslovno poroĉilo CD za leto 2009 I POSLOVANJE CANKARJEVEGA DOMA V LETU 2009 Na 2. seji, ki je bila 17. 2. 2009 je Svet Cankarjevega doma1 izdal soglasje k Programu in finanĉnemu naĉrtu CD za leto 2009, ki je bil usklajen z Odloĉbo Ministrstva za kulturo2 št. 6110-1078/2008/3, izdano 30.1.2009. Program in finanĉni naĉrt je potrdil tudi strokovni svet zavoda na 10. seji, ki je bila 16. 2. 2009. Sprejeti Program in finanĉni naĉrt CD je poleg Strategije CD za obdobje 2008–12 osnova, s katero v Poslovnem poroĉilu primerjamo uresniĉeno v letu 2009 z naĉrtovanim. 1.1 ZAKONSKE IN DRUGE PODLAGE, KI POJASNJUJEJO DELOVNO PODROĈJE CD 1. Sklep in sprememba sklepa o ustanovitvi Cankarjevega doma 2. Strategija Cankarjevega doma za obdobje 2008–12 3. Zakon o uresniĉevanju javnega interesa za kulturo 4. Zakon o javnih financah 5. Nacionalni program za kulturo 6. Poziv k predloţitvi predloga finanĉnega naĉrta in programa dela za leto 2009 7. Odloĉbe MK in pogodbe, sklenjene z MK o financiranju CD v letu 2009 Pravna podlaga za opredelitev CD kot zavoda je podana z Zakonom o zavodih. Zakon o uresniĉevanju javnega interesa za kulturo in Sklep o ustanovitvi CD dajeta podlago odloĉitvam o delovanju CD. CD deluje od leta 1981. Kulturno-umetniški program in kongresno dejavnost izvaja ţe trideset let. Glavni ustanovitelj CD je drţava, ki vsa leta sofinancira Cankarjev dom. Drugi ustanovitelj je od leta 2004 dalje Iskra d.d., ki bi morala v skladu z ustanoviteljskim deleţem (3,47 %) po pogodbi zagotavljati sorazmerni deleţ sredstev za investicije in investicijsko vzdrţevanje glede na sprejete letne naĉrte (do leta 2008 je zagotavljala deleţe praviloma z enoletnim zamikom plaĉil, v letu 2009 ni zagotovila sofinanciranja). Soustanoviteljstvo Iskre d.d. mora biti v letu 2010 dokonĉno razrešeno. CD je kulturni in kongresni center, ustanovljen za izvajanje kulturno-umetniškega programa3 (javne sluţbe) ter kongresne in druge dejavnosti na trgu4 (dejavnost na trgu). CD opravlja javno sluţbo, program, ki je v javnem interesu in ga sofinancira Ministrstvo za kulturo, delno (25 do 30 % letno) pa je financiran z nejavnimi prihodki javne sluţbe, najveĉ s prihodki od prodanih vstopnic. CD opravlja tudi druge dejavnosti, ki jih v skladu s sklepom o ustanovitvi ne opravlja kot javno sluţbo (financirane izkljuĉno s prodajo storitev na trgu). K tem sodita predvsem organiziranje in izvedba kongresnih, druţabnih, druţbenopolitiĉnih, protokolarnih, sejemskih, izobraţevalnih, festivalskih in drugih (v zadnjih letih tudi kulturnih) prireditev. 1.2 ORGANI ZAVODA Organi zavoda so: generalni direktor, Svet zavoda in Strokovni svet, ki zagotavljajo poslovanje CD v skladu z veljavnimi predpisi in odgovarjajo za zakonitost poslovanja zavoda. Generalni direktor Cankarjevega doma je Mitja Rotovnik. CD ima za vodenje posameznih sektorjev ali podroĉij dejavnosti pomoĉnike generalnega direktorja, ki uporabljajo naziv direktor. Poslovni sektor vodi Jana Kramberger, ki v ĉasu odsotnosti tudi nadomešĉa generalnega direktorja. Kongresno- komercialni sektor vodi Breda Peĉovnik, tehniĉni sektor pa Sašo Kranjc. Kulturno-umetniški program neposredno vodi generalni direktor Mitja Rotovnik, ki usklajuje in koordinira delo umetniških vodij za posamezna programska podroĉja. 1 V nadaljevanju tudi CD 2 V nadaljevanju tudi MK 3 V nadaljevanju uporabljamo tudi okrajšavi KUP (kulturno-umetniški program) ali JS (javna sluţba). 4 V nadaljevanju uporabljamo tudi okrajšavi KKP (kongresno-komercialni program) ali DT (dejavnost na trgu). 3 Poslovno poroĉilo CD za leto 2009 Vlada RS je oktobra 2008 sprejela Sklep o spremembah in dopolnitvah Sklepa o ustanovitvi javnega zavoda Cankarjev dom, ki doloĉa spremenjeno

Without a doubt, Cobra is Zorn’s most popular and well-known composition and one that has enjoyed remarkable success and innumerable performances all over the world since its premiere in late 1984 at the New York City club, Roulette. Some noteworthy performances of Cobra include those played by a group of jazz journalists and critics, an all-women performance, and a hip-hop ver- sion as well!1 At the same time, Cobra is routinely played by students in colleges and universities all over the world, ensuring that the work will continue to grow and evolve in the years to come.

Taking its title from the night of violence against Jewish people, their businesses, and their property which occurred in Nazi Germany on November 9 and 10, 1938, Kristallnacht was John Zorn's first musical exploration of his Jewish heritage. After working with a group of musicians, most of whom he had little or no prior recorded collaboration with, Zorn built on the success of this project by turning in a new direction in his creative life. Quickly founding his own Hebrew-titled record company, encouraging other Jewish musicians to embrace their ethnic and religious heritage, and releasing in quick succession a CD series of Klezmer-flavored tunes, John Zorn's seemingly abrupt decision to visibly take up his cultural identity has gained him not only fans in the Jewish and free jazz worlds, but also critics and accusations of ethnic profiteering. This paper examines the underlying assumptions, aims, and methods for achieving these goals in Zorn's recent Jewish work through statements made by the composer, and reception by his fans and critics, but primarily through his recorded legacy.

His latest solo release, Silent Movies (Pi Recording 2010) has been described as a “down-in-mouth-near master piece” by the Village Voice and has MEDIA SPONSOR: landed on several Best of 2010 lists including the LA Times and critical praise across the board. 2013 saw the release of “Your Turn” (Northern Spy), the sophomore effort from Ribot’s post-rock/noise trio Ceramic Dog, and 2014 saw the monumental release: “Marc Ribot Trio Live at the Village Vanguard” (Pi Recordings), documenting Marc’s first headline and the return of Henry Grimes at the historical venue in 2012 already included on Best of 2014 lists including Downbeat Magazine. Rolling Stone points out that “Guitarist Marc Ribot helped Tom Waits refine a new, weird Americana on 1985’s Rain Dogs, and since MESSAGE FROM THE CENTER: then he’s become the go-to guitar guy for all kinds of roots-music adventurers: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, John We are extremely fortunate here at the Center to Mellencamp.” Additional recording credits include Neko Case, regularly present, collaborate with and support artists Diana Krall, Elton John/Leon Russell’s The Union, Solomon Burke, who defy simple categorization, who often cannot be John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards, Marianne Faithful, Joe Henry, Allen confined to a single presentation format.

    It was sometime in 1974 that a number of composition students were sitting at a table in the cafeteria of the New England Conservatory discussing the various musical issues of the day when Donald Martino, one of our Faculty Fearless Leaders, turned to Anthony Coleman and said “You know, Anthony, you are a truly literate musician.” Over the years, this condition has only intensified. I remember this quote now, in 2007, not only because it was true at the time, but also because after listening to the music on this CD I am deeply impressed that Anthony is able to draw from so many varied, disparate, and even contradictory sources, and still emerge with such a singular and consistent voice. It takes a truly literate and sophisticated mind to perceive the common threads of many languages and to sense their underlying unity. Listening to any of the five works on this CD is to enter into a particular world, highly specific in material but nearly hallucinatory in formal development. The music starts, becomes linear, suspends, goes vertical, goes backward, goes forward, produces vague memories, and ends. What happened? Something. Anthony was born in New York City in 1955 and is a pure product of that city’s musical energy. In high school he obsessed over Duke Ellington (a not-so-common thing for a high school kid in the late sixties and early seventies), hearing the band live for the first time on his fourteenth birthday. He subsequently got to know Ellington and the band personally, hanging out with them at gigs, and attending a workshop that they gave at the University of Wisconsin in the summer of 1972.

Working alongside African Americans but often with fewer barriers to success, Jews helped jazz gain recognition as a uniquely American art form, symbolic of the melting pot’s potential and a pluralistic society. At the same time that Jews helped establish jazz as America’s art form, they also used it to shape the contours of American Jewish identity. Elements of jazz infiltrated some of America’s earliest secular Jewish music, formed the basis of numerous sacred works, and continue to influence the soundtrack of American Jewish life. As such, jazz has been an important site in which Jews have helped define what it means to be American, as well as Jewish. Enduring Understandings • Jazz has been an important platform through which Jews have helped shape the pluralistic nature of American society, as well as one that has shaped understandings of American Jewish identity. • Jews have played many different roles in the development of jazz, from composers to club owners. • Though Jews have been involved in jazz through virtually all phases of its development, they have only used it to express Jewishness in a relatively small number of circumstances.
