  • I Wanna Be Yours - John Cooper Clarke
Edexcel English Literature GCSE Poetry Collection: Relationships i wanna be yours - John Cooper Clarke This work by PMThttps://bit.ly/pmt-edu-cc Education is licensed under https://bit.ly/pmt-ccCC BY-NC-ND 4.0 https://bit.ly/pmt-cc https://bit.ly/pmt-edu https://bit.ly/pmt-cc I WANNA BE YOURS John Cooper Clarke Brief Summary The poem features an unknown speaker addressing their lover, who is also unknown to the reader. The speaker asks to be let into every aspect of their lover’s life by listing the different mundane, everyday objects they want to replace. As well as asking to be needed and adored by their lover, the speaker demonstrates their devotion to their lover and the consistency of their affection. The exact relationship between the speaker and the object of their affection is unknown, but it is clear that the speaker wants to be closer to the person they are addressing. The poem is full of simplistic language, word play, and innuendo. Synopsis ● The speaker is talking directly to an unknown subject and we never hear their response to the speaker ● The speaker asks their lover if they will “let” them take the place of various everyday objects in their life ● The speaker makes it clear that their lover is in control ● The only thing the speaker desires is to belong to their lover ● The list of mundane objects continues as the speaker makes it clear that they want to make their lover’s life better and be with them everywhere ● The final stanza finishes with a grander, more metaphysical (deep) image than the mundane objects previously used to show the extent of the speaker’s devotion ● The speaker concludes by clarifying they want no one else other than the lover they are addressing in this poem Context John Cooper Clarke (1949 - present) John Cooper Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire, in the north of England.

Texts in Performance: Identity, Interaction and Influence in U.K. and U.S. Poetry Slam Discourses Acknowledgements After a research project representing several years of full time research there is inevitably a long list of people to thank. In particular, this research would not have been possible without the generosity and support of countless members of slam and performance poetry communities in the U.K. and U.S.. I would particularly like to thank: Mee Ng, Ebele Ajogbe, Alvin Lau and Soul and Donna Evans, who offered up their homes, spare beds and sofas to me; everyone who spent valuable hours talking to me about performance poetry and slam, in particular Kurt Heintz, Matthias Burki, Jacob Sam-La Rose and the late Pat West who each sent me lengthy and informative e-mails; Jenny Lindsay and Russell Thompson for offering me their guest tickets to the fantastic Latitude Festival in 2006; and my good friend Paul Vallis, who endured many hours of research-related monologues.

LEDBURY POETRY FESTIVAL 2O15 03–12 July 2015 Programme poetry-festival.co.uk @ledburyfest Ledbury Poetry Festival 3 -12 July 2015 Thank you to all the generous and enthusiastic people who give their time and energy to making the Festival the jam-packed, fun-filled, world-class poetry event that it is. Thank you to all our volunteers who help with administration, stewarding, hospitality, accommodation, driving and much more. Thanks also to all our sponsors and supporters. This Festival grew out of its community and it remains a community celebration. Community Programme Poets Brenda Read Brown and Sara-Jane Arbury work all year round with people who may never be able to attend a Festival event, who have never attempted creative writing before, or have never taken part in any cultural activity. The impact this work can have is astounding. The Community Programme reaches out to people facing social exclusion due to physical or mental health issues, disability or learning challenges and engages them in life-affirming ways with poetry and the creative process. See the Mary and Joe event on Sunday 12th July. Recent projects have included poetry writing in doctors’ surgeries and hospital waiting rooms, and with vulnerable women at a women’s shelter. Opportunities for self-expression in these communities are hugely rewarding for all involved. “You’ve woken something up in me!” said one participant. This is only possible due to funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Herefordshire Community Foundation and Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust. Poets in Schools All year round the Festival sends skilled and experienced poets into schools across Herefordshire to enable pupils to read, write and thoroughly enjoy poetry.

  • John Cooper Clarke: Rough Poet Turns out to Be an Absolute Sweetheart October 30 2019
John Cooper Clarke: Rough poet turns out to be an absolute sweetheart October 30 2019 Paul McCartney claims he is the best poet of the British Isles. And recently ‘the bard of Salford’ received an honorary doctorate for his influential oeuvre. With his razor-sharp pen and his satirical texts, in which the word fuck cannot be missed, Doctor John Cooper Clarke (70) takes a grain of salt with everyone including himself. ‘Get back on drugs, you fat fuck.’ No wonder the punk movement embraced him: he used to be the supporting act of Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, Buzzcocks and The Sex Pistols, among others. No more supporting though: nowadays he is the unmistakable headliner. Hester Aalberts | Photos Eddy Ellert The concert hall is packed with a mainly English-speaking audience. John Cooper Clarke has been firing his rugged writings into his audience for five decades now. And he is virtually unanimously hailed by both press and public: The pride of Salford, An absolute genius, The Rolling Stones gift birth to a comedian poet. Thinner than ever and traditionally garmented with a tailored black suit and pointed shoes, he enters the stage. ‘In the early days of punk, I was pelted with beer and bottles so often that I put on a leather jacket. I couldn't afford to have my suit dry cleaned after each performance’, he explains later. Beasley Street On stage, he shines and sparkles with incredible ease. Every time he launches another word missile, the audience responds exuberantly. No wonder: his work has reached an almost legendary status: Belladonna is your flower, manslaughter your meat, spend a year in a couple of hours, on the edge of Beasley Street.
