Beginning in the Calendar Year 2015, Can You Please Provide an Up-To-Date, Month-By-Month Breakdown Of: 1 Beginning in the calendar year 2015, can you please provide an up-to-date, month-by-month breakdown of: 1. The number of crimes, where the offence location is recorded as 'school', for the following offences: -Possess offensive weapon -Possess offensive weapon on school premises -Threaten with offensive weapon on school premises -Possess firearm etc with intent to endanger life -GBH Wounding. -Attempted murder/murder 2. The type of weapon used 3. The age and gender of the offenders and whether they were charged. 4. The name of the school, where possible Please see the attached document. It is important to note that the figures for sharp or bladed implement do not solely refer to knives. They also cover articles with a blade or point. This can include a piece of broken glass or bottle and also includes offences where threats are made to use a knife but no knife is actually seen. West Yorkshire Police takes a victim led approach to crime recording and we have made some good improvements as to how crime is recorded which is reflected in the consistent numbers across the 3 year period The number of people aged under 18 reported to be in possession of articles with a blade or point, or a knife has increased. Since this increase West Yorkshire Police have placed dedicated Safer Schools Officers who work in partnership with secondary schools across the county. As part of their role, Safer Schools Officers speak to young people about the dangers of carrying a knife and the potential consequences. The Force has also recently supported a national campaign around knife crime, which included enforcement activities such as weapon sweeps, test purchase operations and educational visits. West Yorkshire Police are committed to prosecuting anyone found to be possessing or using a knife or firearm. The work of our partners and community based projects is important, as is the vigilance of families who believe one of their relatives may carry weapons. Tackling it requires everyone to work together through a variety of approaches, from school inputs and awareness campaigns, to weapons surrenders which are always successful in taking weapons out of circulation, to actively targeting offenders. Please see the below link to details around weapon surrenders. https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/HandInYourWeapons Offences at schools, 01/01/2015 to 28/02/2019 Notes Figures represent the number of crimes recorded during the period which: - were not subsequently cancelled - had a location qualifier of 'SCHOOL' - was classified as one of the following offences 10A - Possession of firearms with intent 10B - Possession of firearms offences 10C - Possession of other weapons 10D - Possession of article with blade or point 5D - Assault with intent to cause serious harm 8N - Assault with injury Offender details as at 19/03/2019, where: - the offender was linked with a positive outcome (e.g. Charged, Detected, PND, Caution, Community Resolution) - i.e. where it is clear they committed the offence Figures are subject to further investigation, reclassification and cancellation, and may therefore change over time Crime classifications based on Home Office Counting Rules for Recorded Crime https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/counting-rules-for-recorded-crime Period Offence Weapon used Offender gender(s) Offender age(s) Aug-18 10D - • 29 April 2019 Principal's Message There Is Much to Tell You About in Terms of Children Representing the School So Positively S
Executive Principal: Primary Education: Simon McCarthy BSc (Hons) NPQH Principal: Helen Townsley BA (Hons) Chair of Governors: Mr Mark Roper 29 April 2019 Principal’s Message There is much to tell you about in terms of children representing the school so positively since our Easter return. Firstly, I was so impressed with the Year 2 children and the wonderful effort they showed when completing their KS1 mock SATs. This week, our Year 6 cohort worked with teachers from across the Trust at The Ruth Gorse Academy and then went onto the Everyman Cinema in Leeds City Centre to relax! Both Trust colleagues and the staff at the cinema were glowingly positive about our pupil’s work ethic, manners and attitudes. Our Year 4 children, and some of their parents, have been visiting The Farnley Academy over the last two weeks to engage in a family cooking activity with a focus on healthy meals. As the children arrived back at Ryecroft, they were full of enthusiasm and they reported that they had learnt a great deal from this experience. They even brought me my lunch! Miss Dunderdale informed me that a member of staff at The Farnley Academy described the children as the politest group of children she had ever come across. This followed on from her holding the door for them and each and every child saying thank you without being prompted. In connection with events this week, it is very important to thank Miss Rennard (The Ruth Gorse Academy), Mr Denton (The Farnley Academy) and Mrs Webster (Boston Spa Academy and The Morley Academy) along with our SCITT colleagues for giving up their time to work with our Year 6 cohort.
