Calderdale Forum 50+

Network 50+ was a Calderdale Forum 50+ project designed to bring together people, groups and organisations with an interest in older people’s issues. It was funded by the Community Foundation for Calderdale Health’s Grants for Health and Wellbeing programme and the Big Lottery Awards for All.

The Network 50+ Directory was produced following consultations at a series of public events in 2013. Questions were asked about what was available for 50+ people in Calderdale, what was needed and how to work together to improve things.

Responses showed that Calderdale has a huge variety of community groups offering almost any interest or activity and a wide range of health, care, information and support services which enable people of all ages to stay safe, active and independent.

The greatest need identified was improved communication. People needed to know what was available to maintain or improve health, wellbeing and quality of life for themselves, family members or client groups.

In the current climate of ever-shrinking resources the capacity to provide opportunities is increasingly under threat. The small community groups in particular need more people to get involved to ensure that they can continue to offer such a wide variety of activities to the people of Calderdale.
