Contactos | Contacts: Raquel Brandt GIORDANI - E-mail address: [email protected] Abstract: Selaginella is the only genus from Selaginellaceae, and it is considered a key factor in studying evolution. The family managed to survive the many biotic and abiotic pressures during the last 400 million years. The purpose of this review is to provide an up-to-date overview of Selaginella in order to recognize their potential and evaluate future research opportunities. Carbohydrates, pigments, steroids, phenolic derivatives, mainly flavonoids, and alkaloids are the main natural products in Selaginella. A wide spectrum of in vitro and in vivo pharmacological activities, some of them pointed out by folk medicine, has been reported. Future studies should afford valuable new data on better explore the biological potential of the flavonoid amentoflavone and their derivatives as chemical bioactive entities; develop studies about toxicity and, finally, concentrate efforts on elucidate mechanisms of action for biological properties already reported. Though, high content of various phytochemicals has been isolated from Selaginella species, flavonoids have been recognized as the most active component in the genus. Crude extract and different bioactive compounds of this plant have revealed various in vitro bioactivities such as, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-diabetic, anti-mutagenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, anti-spasmodic, anticancer and anti-Alzheimer. However, more studies into the pharmacological activities are needed, since none of the professed bioactivity of this plant have ever been fully evaluated. -

Wang1,2, G.Q. Li1, Q.L. Liu1, S.F. Chen1,2 Key words Abstract Plantation-grown Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae) and other trees residing in the Myrtales have been widely planted in southern China. These fungal pathogens include species of Cryphonectriaceae that are well-known to cause stem Eucalyptus and branch canker disease on Myrtales trees. During recent disease surveys in southern China, sporocarps with fungal pathogen typical characteristics of Cryphonectriaceae were observed on the surfaces of cankers on the stems and branches host jump of Myrtales trees. In this study, a total of 164 Cryphonectriaceae isolates were identified based on comparisons of Myrtaceae DNA sequences of the partial conserved nuclear large subunit (LSU) ribosomal DNA, internal transcribed spacer new taxa (ITS) regions including the 5.8S gene of the ribosomal DNA operon, two regions of the β-tubulin (tub2/tub1) gene, plantation forestry and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1) gene region, as well as their morphological characteristics. The results showed that eight species reside in four genera of Cryphonectriaceae occurring on the genera Eucalyptus, Melastoma (Melastomataceae), Psidium (Myrtaceae), Syzygium (Myrtaceae), and Terminalia (Combretaceae) in Myrtales. These fungal species include Chrysoporthe deuterocubensis, Celoporthe syzygii, Cel. eucalypti, Cel. guang dongensis, Cel. cerciana, a new genus and two new species, as well as one new species of Aurifilum. These new taxa are hereby described as Parvosmorbus gen. -

Dicranum scoparium and Porella platyphylla taxa of bryophytes were used in the present study carried out to determine the free radical scavenging activities, fatty acid, and vitamin contents. In this study, it was aimed to underline the importance of bryophytes for scientific literature and to provide a basis for further studies on this subject. The data obtained in this study indicate that the DPPH radical scavenging effect of D. scoparium taxon is significantly higher than that of P. platyphylla taxon. It is known that there is a strong relationship between the phenolic compound content of methanol extracts of the plants and the DPPH radical scavenging efficiency. When the fatty acid contents were examined, it was observed that levels of all unsaturated fatty acids were higher in the P. platyphylla taxon than the D. scoparium taxon, except for α-Linolenic acid. When the vitamin contents of species were compared, it was determined that D-3, α -tocopherol, stigmasterol, betasterol amount was higher in Dicranum taxon. Elaeocarpus is a genus Tamil Nadu, India belonging to the family, Elaeocarpaceae. In Indian traditional system of medicine, different parts of rudraksha were taken for the alleviation of various health related problems such as mental disorders, K Thenmozhi PG and Research Department of headache, skin diseases and for healing wounds. The present study was undertaken to address Botany, Kongunadu Arts and phytochemical and in vitro antioxidant potential for the medicinal plant species, Elaeocarpus munronii Science College, Coimbatore, and Elaeocarpus tuberculatus. Quantification of phytochemicals for various solvent systems viz., Tamil Nadu, India petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, ethanol and aqueous extracts and plant parts viz., leaf, stem, flower and fruit for the two medicinal plant species, E. munronii and E. tuberculatus were analyzed. The principle hill ranges in Rayalaseema region are Nallamalais, Erramalais, Veligondas, Palakondas, Lankamalais, Horsely Hills and Seshachalam hills.
