WHO WE ARE Sigrid has a medical education as graduated nurse, is a trained “Bewegungspädagogin” (teacher for movement), a pilates teacher and personal fitness trainer. Bewegungs- pädagogin is a rigorous three-year degree program in Switzerland. Her first love is pilates, especially for the classical method. For seven years, Sigrid ran her own studio in Zurich, Switzerland. Sigrid finds it important that physical instruction is adapted to participants anatomic and physiotherapeutic needs (e.g. posture, walKing and running dynamics). Walter holds a PhD in economics and worked as a financial marKet expert. To treat his bacK, he developed programs by combining pilates and yoga sequences. He specialized in medical yoga and has a training in yoga therapy. Walter is most interested in programs which positively affect a person’s physical and mental well-being in a lasting fashion. We provide a sampling. SIGHT-SEEING Aix-en-Provençe, Avignon, Arles and Marseille are the nearest big cities. Avignon is famous for its old city center with the Palace of the Pope and the “Pont d’Avignon”, its well-known medieval bridge, memorialized in a children’s song. Aix-en-Provençe is also characterized by a long history and ample culture. It is also a lively student town. 30 minutes by car, Aix-en-Provençe is the cultural and culinary capital of Provençe. You can visit numerous museums, churches, galleries, and theaters or simply stroll through the streets and typical alleys. Vaugines, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Gordes, Lacoste and Menerbes are examples of picturesque hillside villages typical of the Provençe. Along the “Route des Châteaux du Luberon”, you can explore old palaces and castles. From spring to autumn, concerts and theater performances taKe place in the nearby old palaces of Lauris, Ansouis, Lourmarin and Motte d’Aigues. Impressive views are offered from old castles in the middle of the Luberon mountains such as “Oppede-Le-Vieux” or the “Fort de Buoux”. The CUCURON WITH LUBERON IN THE BACK Colerado Provençal near Rustel is famous for its red ocher landscape.HINTERGRUND Canyon lovers will find the “Gorges du Verdun” worth a trip, as well as the popular mountain laKe “Lac de Croix”. The small village Fontaine de Vaucluse hosts the largest source of natural spring water in France and the fifth largest in the world. A full-grown river – Sorgues - is sourced and flows a couple of Kilometers later in several branches through the town l’Isle-sur-la- Sorgues. VISITING PROVENÇAL OPEN MARKETS Every day of the weeK, you can visit a different Provencal marKet with local products. Friday’s marKet in Lourmarin is the biggest on the southern flanKs of the Luberon. On Tuesdays, Cucuron has a beautiful marKet under big trees surrounding a pond, the “L’Etang”. Around the L’Etang, restaurants, cafés, and bars abound for enjoyment of the marKet or taKing a breaK. « Reboot » In Provence [email protected] At the markets, locals and tourists mix, and you can always find something pleasant to the eye, nose or mouth. We always buy our vegetables, olives, cheese and other mouth- watering goods at the marKet. Other regular marKets in the area include Cavaillon on Mondays, Lauris on Wednesdays, Roussilon on Thursdays, and Ansouis on Saturdays. CUCURON MARKET Twice a year, there is a big antique marKet called the “Foire International Antiquités & Brocante” in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorques. In other villages numerous “vide grenier” taKe place where the granaries are emptied, and people offer old artifacts. A friend of ours is always busy the entire year preparing for the “vide grenier” in Cucuron, repairing and polishing old and unused objects. During summer and autumn the locals also organize evening marKets with music and performances or special basKet and porcelain marKets. FESTIVAL Avignon is famous for its international theater, dance and song/opera summer festival (the Festival d’Avignon). Aix-en-Provence’s “Festival International d’Art Lyrique” takes place at the same time. Smaller towns and villages also have a lot going on, all the way into autumn. EATING AND DINING The Provencal cuisine is a special treat. Cucuron has a Michelin starred restaurant called the “Petite Maison”. During the high season, timely booKing is recommended. We personally are very enthusiastic of the food served in “La Closerier” in Ansois. For daily well-being, you will find numerous restaurants that aren’t too expensive. We currently favor a restaurant in Lourmarin where you can sit outside and have simple but very good food. WINE TASTING We recommend our neighbors, Marilyne and Louise Michel Bremond, who produce a very good and honest variety of organic local wine. Vineyards are everywhere in the region, maKing tastings easy. You can also go a bit farther to more noble wine regions such as the famous “Chateauneuf-du-Pape”. « Reboot » In Provence [email protected] Lovers of olive oil will find several places in Cucuron and the surrounding area where different varieties can be tried. SWIMMING The laKe, “Lac de la Bonde”, can be reached by car in less than 10 minutes. It’s also a perfect spot for those preparing for a triathlon. Access to the beach is free. Going to the Mediterranean taKes about an hour with car. Thus, one should plan for a half- day trip, at a minimum. LAC DE LA BONDE WITH HORSE OR DONKEY We also recommend our neighbor, the Müllers (“Les Cavaliers du Luberon”), who offer excursions on horses. WalKing tours with horses and donKeys into the Luberon are popular with children. The Müllers also organize night trips on horses and overnight trips. HIKING AND BIKING The region is ideal for walKing and hiKing, which can be anything from an easy Sunday stroll along lavender fields and olive groves to more demanding excursions up the Luberon. From our property, you can scale the Mourre negre, the highest point of the Luberon at about 1200 meters. Mourre negre is also accessible by biKe. On good days you can see the Mediterranean from the Mourre negre. France is a land of cyclists, and on weeKends the roads abound with cyclists. Cycling enthusiasts of all abilities will find the Provence an ideal place with many scenic roads and great views. From Lourmarin, a rocKy canyon allows you to visit the other side of the Luberon with a ridge of gorgeous cedar forest. From the ridge, you have one of the most impressive views in the northern part of the Provence. Directly below, you see the village of Lacoste and in the distance, the famous Mont Ventoux. A very different hiKing region is the coastal area around Marseille with its picturesque Calanques, the blue lagoons. It is a very special experience to walk on the sea alongside these lagoons. The Calanques can also be visited via boats from Marseille or Cassis. Another rewarding hiKing range is the mountain of Sainte-Victoire near Aix-en-Provence. Paul Cézanne, a former resident of Aix, made Sainte-Victoire famous through a sequence of paintings. The mountain is a treasure offering fascinating views. « Reboot » In Provence [email protected] ACCOMODATIONS Accommodations are in Cucuron or in surrounding villages. The villages Lourmarin, Vaugines, Ansouis, La Bond and Cabrieres- d’Aigues are very close.
