Dec 01, Terence rated it liked it. Doctor Spectrum reflects on the death of her planet and the man Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 helped end it yet saved her. Meanwhile Nighthawk has an unexpected visitor. Nighthawk vs. Nighthawk I read this a while ago and never wrote a review. I was underwhelmed and I imagine that's largely why I didn't bother. The interaction between Dr. Spectrum and Black Bolt was pretty interesting considering Black Bolt doesn't speak. It must be a difficult feeling to interact with someone who helped kill everyone you know Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 saved yo Doctor Spectrum reflects on the death of her planet and the man who helped end it yet saved her. It must be a difficult feeling to interact with someone who helped kill everyone you know yet saved your life. Overall I had some high hopes for the Inhumans and Squadron crossover but it wasn't great. Nighthawk vs Nighthawk wasn't quite what I hoped for yet the alternate universe Nighthawk is just a devastating man to fight. Jan 29, Paul E. Morph rated it really liked it Shelves: comics-read-in This is a transitional volume, mainly purposed to set up the next one, but that's not to say it's a bad one. In fact, I really enjoyed this look at some of the Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 members during their 'downtime' as much as they can be said to have downtime. There were a few twists and turns I Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 see coming and I'm definitely intrigued enough to keep reading this unusual title. The connection to Civil War II is pretty tangential, so don't feel you need to read this one as part Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 that crossover. Jul 22, Brent rated it liked it Recommends it for: fans of these fine creators and Marvel superheroes. Shelves: comicsfictionsuperhero. I Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 this, like all work by writer Robinson and artist Kirk. There are some fine artists working on issue 9, the last chapter in this installment, as well. But it is a collection of intermediate highs and lows, without a clear beginning and end. Still: ok. Jun 25, Annye rated it it was ok Shelves: civil-war-ii. Squadron Supreme, Volume 2: Civil War II Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 would have been a whole lot better if I had any knowledge of these characters - but for someone trying to get the full story of the Civil War without all of the backstory, it really doesn't work at all. The characters don't get little blurbs or introductions and there Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 too many teams and alliance changes to understand for a new reader. By the end, I'm not even sure if the Squadron Supreme are good guys or not. I did really enjoy the parts of th Squadron Supreme, Volume 2: Civil War II probably would have been a whole lot better if I had any knowledge of these characters - but for someone Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 to get the full Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 of the Civil War without all of the backstory, it really doesn't work at all. I did really enjoy the parts of the story with Black Bolt - I'm starting to think he improves any page he's on. Read more of my reviews plus cat pics! Nov 26, Shannon Appelcline rated it liked it Shelves: comicscomics-marvel. Doctor Spectrum A nice focus on Spectrum and her relations with the Atlanteans and with Blackbolt. It continues to pay up the vengeful nature of this Squadron. Unfortunately, this arc is very slow too, with the interesting character work being dependent on a mostly uninteresting plot. Meanwhile, there's the annoying trend for Marvel to try and make all of its heroes into Inhumans. Then we get an eye-rolli Doctor Spectrum Then we get an Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 digression on how Doctor Spectrum is kind of sort of but not really an Inhuman too. Give it up Marvel, no one cares! Overall, this comic continues to be a disappointment, which is a real shame. Although kudos for crossing over with CWII, but doing so very lightly, with no damage to the comic. Jan 30, Alan rated it liked it. Thankfully the Weirdworld adventure is over, but now a traitor has been exposed in their ranks oh, this feels so predictable in some ways. At least Robinson is picking up on the alien conspiracy plot thread that he laid out during his Invaders run. OK, but I keep hoping for the James Robinson who hooked me into a series back in the ss. Jul 19, Garrett rated it liked it. This will never be the Gruenwald years of Squadron, but it's Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 trying to be, either. Not only that, but this sophomore volume of the title Squadron Supreme Vol. 2 to achieve two elusive things; 1. Sometimes, I think the best thing for This will never be the Gruenwald years of Squadron, but it's not trying to be, either. Sometimes, I think the best thing for a book editorially, is that it doesn't have a big impact on the crossover, so it can continue without interruption.

Just like with the last phase and Ant-Man, Phase 3 of Marvel instead decided to go out not with the big bang which would've obviously been Endgame here , but instead a bit of an aftermath and a view of things to come. There are also glimpses of some of Chris Hemsworth's comedic ability, which he puts on great display down the line in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. The introduction of one of the MCU's most iconic characters came in 's Thor. Plus, the roster for The Avengers can only be so big before the films start to feel bloated. Parasite 2. Accessed from Swinburne Research Bank: http://hdl.handle.net/1959.3/54547 “This is the Authority . This Planet is Under Our Protection” – An Exegesis of Superheroes’ Interrogations of Law Jason Bainbridge Abstract This paper examines concepts of authority, law, and justice in the genre of superhero comics. Despite the common view that comic book superheroes do not warrant (and have not received) significant academic attention except as art form (rather than social/legal commentary), they do, in fact, present a locus in which visions of law and its relationship with society are played out with a degree of intellectual and jurisprudential sophistication. This is because superheroes reflect perceptions of failed or deficient law. They are therefore another vehicle for thinking discursively about law because of what they can say about society and its perceptions of the effectiveness of law, in the context of their manifesting a pre-modern, sacralised, view of embodied justice as opposed to modern constructs of law. Using a typology of pre-modern, modern, and postmodern justice, the paper briefly explores the characteristics of justice found in superhero comics.

  • Marvel Comics Avengers Chronological Appearances by Bob Wolniak
Marvel Comics Avengers Chronological Appearances By Bob Wolniak ased initially on the Bob Fronczak list from Avengers Assemble and Avengers Forever websites. But unlike Mr. B Fronczak’s list (that stops about the time of Heroes Reborn) this is NOT an attempt at a Marvel continuity (harmony of Marvel titles in time within the fictional universe), but Avengers appearances in order in approx. real world release order . I define Avengers appearances as team appearances, not individual Avengers or even in some cases where several individual Avengers are together (but eventually a judgment call has to be made on some of those instances). I have included some non-Avengers appearances since they are important to a key storyline that does tie to the Avengers, but noted if they did not have a team appearance. Blue (purple for WCA & Ultimates) indicates an Avengers title , whether ongoing or limited series. I have decided that Force Works is not strictly an Avengers title, nor is Thunderbolts, Defenders or even Vision/Scarlet Witch mini- series, although each book correlates, crosses over and frequently contains guest appearances of the Avengers as a team. In those cases, the individual issues are listed. I have also decided that individual Avengers’ ongoing or limited series books are not Avengers team appearances, so I have no interest in the tedious tracking of every Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, or Hank Pym title unless they contain a team appearance or x-over . The same applies to Avengers Spotlight (largely a Hawkeye series, with other individual appearances), Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Vision, Wonder Man, Hulk, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Quicksilver, Thunderstrike, War Machine, Black Widow, Sub-Mariner, Hercules, and other such books or limited series.

American Superhero Comics: Fractal Narrative and The New Deal A dissertation presented to the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy Lawrence W. Beemer June 2011 © 2011 Lawrence W. Beemer. All Rights Reserved. 2 This dissertation titled American Superhero Comics: Fractal Narrative and The New Deal by LAWRENCE W. BEEMER has been approved for the English Department of Ohio University and the College of Arts and Sciences by ______________________________ Robert Miklitsch Professor of English ______________________________ Benjamin M. Ogles Dean, College of Arts and Sciences 3 ABSTRACT BEEMER, LAWRENCE W., Ph.D., June 2011, English American Superhero Comics: Fractal Narrative and The New Deal (204 pp.) Director of Dissertation: Robert Miklitsch Coining the term "fractal narrative," this dissertation examines the complex storytelling structure that is particular to contemporary American superhero comics. Whereas other mediums most often require narrative to function as self-contained and linear, individual superhero comics exist within a vast and intricate continuity that is composed of an indeterminate number of intersecting threads. Identical to fractals, the complex geometry of the narrative structure found in superhero comics when taken as a whole is constructed by the perpetual iteration of a single motif that was established at the genre's point of origin in Action Comics #1. The first appearance of Superman institutes all of the features and rhetorical elements that define the genre, but it also encodes it with the specific ideology of The New Deal era. In order to examine this fractal narrative structure, this dissertation traces historical developments over the last seven decades and offers a close reading Marvel Comics' 2006 cross-over event, Civil War.
