PERMISSIVE FOOTPATH DONATION APPEAL

We are delighted to announce that the paths will remain open for another year, through to the end of October 2020. As

we were less than £100 short of the annual target of £3000, the SCA will fund the small balance. Many thanks to

everyone who donated to keep these important paths open for the whole community.

We will launch our appeal for the following

year in 2020, following an independent enquiry into whether part of these paths should be designated public footpaths rather

than permissive paths. This enquiry will be held on 13 February 2020 from 10am in Keynsham Community Space.

Once again many thanks to all those who generously donated to keep these paths

open.

SALTFORD POST OFFICE OPENING HOURS Dear Saltford residents, Some time ago, we had a meeting with our volunteers and employees who had been collecting feedback from our users over the past three months. Overwhelmingly the message we received from our users was that the library/post office should be opened longer so that parents and children could access books after school and businesses could use the post office at the end of the day. We were also told that the times of opening needed to be consistent through the week so that every start and end time was the same, whatever day we were open. Trish and Judi, our post office clerks, kept a record of post office usage and found that Thursday was the slowest day for business. The management committee determined that they would try and open the library/post office longer throughout the week but were mindful of the increase in hours that our volunteers would have to cover and were concerned that our business should be under- pinned by regular financial contributions. As a result of that meeting, we asked for an increase in monthly contributions from our residents to support the library/post office and the response was very positive: we are all extremely grateful. The SCA and the Parish Council were then approached and they responded magnificently with a commitment respectively of £1000 and £2000 annually for two years to underpin the project. Funding achieved, we had to recruit and then train an increased number of volunteers. We were seeking a further 10 and by the end of September had recruited 11. All our vol- unteers are amazing. However, we could still do with some more and if you have some regular spare time to offer, we would love to hear from you.

19 With all of these jigsaw pieces in place, our volunteers and employees are pleased to announce that from the 4 November 2019, the new opening times for the library/post office are as follows: Monday: 9-1, 2-5 (closed 1-2) Tuesday: 9-1, 2-5 (closed 1-2) Wednesday: 9-1, 2-5 (closed 1-2) Friday: 9-1, 2-5 (closed 1-2) Saturday: 9-12. The library/post office will be closed Thursdays and Sundays The Post Office have confirmed that they are very pleased to vary our contract with them to increase our opening hours and the royal mail will change their collection times to pick up mail at the end of each working day. All of the volunteers, employees and management committee are very excited that we have been able to offer an enhanced service and we do ask you to use us as often as possible and support us with card and stationery sales and greater library book usage as we move inexorably towards the festive season. And don’t forget to post early for Christmas! Thank you so much for your support David Halton Chairman, Management Committee, Saltford Library Hub Limited

B&NES Councillors’ Report - Saltford Ward Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation on the future use of the Mead Lane river-bank. A decision is expected to be made in time for the next edition of SCAN. The implications of the riverbank stabilisation works in 2005 could prove significant. B&NES Council has given overwhelming support for the re-opening of Saltford Station with 45 votes for and 7 abstentions. If the Greater Bristol Rail Feasibility study due to be published confirms Saltford Station as a potentially viable project then the case for Saltford Station and its funding will be taken to the West of England Combined Author- ity (WECA) for its consideration “with vigour”. We are delighted at the success of our joint projects with Saltford Parish Council. The white lining at the pinch point at the lower end of the High Street is now in place and the Visually Activated Sign (VAS) to warn drivers of their speed is to be moved from outside The Crown to the eastern entrance to Saltford near the Glen, a much more appropriate location. We wish all readers of SCAN a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Cllr Duncan Hounsell, Cllr Alastair Singleton

I have enjoyed helping many clients combat these conditions. Some of the comments they make include: “I feel more like my old self”, “I feel calmer and much more able to cope”, “I feel more energetic” and “I feel lighter”. Surprising facts about hypnotherapy

• You stay awake during hypnosis - trance is a natural state of mind where the client retains complete control of their actions. • Hypnosis was originally used as anaesthesia and is still used widely for pain control. Studies using EEG have shown that hypnosis removes the emotional experience of pain. • Your brain works differently while in a hypnotised state allowing the bypassing of the conscious part of the mind which can help to overcome many conditions. • Officially hypnosis has been used since the 18th century, but much earlier recorded descriptions date back to ancient Egypt in 1500BC.

December 2019 Dear Friends Christmas is a time for generosity. The gifts we give do not have to be expensive or extravagant – sometimes the gift of time spent with a neighbour or a smile at someone we see on the street can be just as meaningful. Like the shepherds, who have only their awe and devotion to bring witness to the birth of Christ, the best gift we can give is the gift of our hearts.

Just as we give, we must also be open to accepting the gift of others. In Jesus, God gives us the most precious gift of all and invites us to know and follow his only Son. Whatever your Christmas looks like, everyone is invited to celebrate the birth of Jesus. From the lowliest shepherds, to the wealthy Magi, all are welcome to gather together and delight in God’s grace.

You too are welcome to follow the star this Christmas and find yourself in that humble stable, in the presence of God, a place where you are known and loved (Welby & Sentamu 2019). This year why not follow the star to one of the many opportunities that are on offer in our three churches. You will receive a warm welcome and have the opportunity to hear the incredible story of Christmas again.

At each service we will be giving away a little booklet called Follow the Star – 12 Days of Christmas Wonder. The booklet has a short reading and thought for the day , one for each of the 12 days of Christmas to help you really engage with what Christmas is truly about.

We hope you have a blessed Christmas and pray that your journey

following the star leads you ever closer to the joy and peace of knowing Jesus Christ.
