In January of 2015, the City announced the City of Champions Revitalization Initiative. January of 2016, the NFL votes to allow the LA Rams to relocate to Inglewood and finally; in January of 2017, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that they will relocate here. In less than one year, Inglewood has gone from having NO NFL teams to two. This is a great day for the City of Inglewood. The stadium is slated to open in 2020. Spring/Summer 2018 Community Information GUIDE 5 INGLEWOOD NEGOTIATES FOR NEW NBA ARENA On Thursday, June, 15, 2017, the Inglewood City Council unanimously approved an exclusive negotiating agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers that could lead to the construction of an arena for a NBA team. The arena would be located across the street from the NFL stadium that will be the home of the Rams and Chargers. The agreement calls for a three-year negotiating period, including a six- month extension, during which, the team will develop details of its proposed state-of-the-art basketball arena with 18,000 to 20,000 seats, team offices, parking and a practice facility. The developers paid a non- refundable $1.5 million deposit to the City to cover costs associated with the planning. The project could provide the opportunity for the Los Angeles Clippers to move to Inglewood. Currently, the Clippers share Staples Center with the Los Angeles Lakers, the NHL's Kings and the WNBA's Sparks.
