  • 2006–07 Annual Report (PDF)
What canI do? Can hatred be stopped? Will future generations remember the Holocaust? After the Holocaust, why can’t the world stop genocide? What canI do? Am I a bystander? A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires leaders and citizens to confront hatred, prevent genocide, promote human dignity and strengthen democracy. Federal support guarantees the Museum’s permanent place on the National Mall, but its educational programs and global outreach are made possible by the generosity of donors nationwide through annual and legacy giving. 2006–07 | ANNUAL REPORT UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM ushmm.org 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, SW Washington, DC 20024-2126 ushmm.org What must be done? What is the Museum’s role in the 21st century? What have we learned from history? From Our Leadership he crimes of the Holocaust were once described as “so calculated, so malignant, and Tso devastating that civilization cannot bear their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated.” How do we move from memory to action? When Justice Robert Jackson uttered these words at Nuremberg, could he have possibly imagined that six decades later his assertion would be a matter of doubt? These words marked what seemed to be a pivotal moment, a watershed in which all that followed would remain in the long shadow of the crime. There was a commitment to not ignore, to not repeat. Yet today, we must ask: Have we arrived at another pivotal moment in which the nature of the crime feels quite relevant, yet the commitment to prevent another human tragedy quite hollow? What must be done? What can we do as individuals? As institutions? | FROM OUR LEADERSHIP 1 For us the key question is: What is the role of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum? 2 | CONFRONTING ANTISEMITISM AND DENIAL 16 | PREVENTING GENOCIDE The Museum cannot eliminate evil and hatred.

Marianist Hall is the newest student residence hall. Photo by: Katy Kol"an ~~ A-Per~f!J'a by Caroline Quinter Orientation was one of the most anticipated weekends for the University of Dayton first-year students. The millions of packets, mountains of rugs, and anticipation of meeting one's new roommate can be a bit overwhelming for the newest members of the Flyer Faithful. Despite these daunting realities, excitement could be seen on the face of every first-year student that crowded into the residence halls. On August 19'h, the big move-in weekend finally arrived for the first-year students. It's safe to say that the weekend would not have gone off as smoothly if it weren't for the infamous Blue Crew, a group of helpful upperclassmen that assists first-year students and their parents during move-in every year. As usual, the Blue Crew also planned guest speakers, social gatherings, and other events for the first-year students.

  • Surname Index to Find All Instances of Your Family Name, Search for Variants Caused by Poor Handwriting, Misinterpretation of Similar Letters Or Their Sounds
SCCGS Quarterly Volume 43 (2020) Surname Index To find all instances of your family name, search for variants caused by poor handwriting, misinterpretation of similar letters or their sounds. A few such examples are L for S, c for e, n for u, u for a; phonetic spellings (Aubuchon for Oubuchon); abbreviations (M’ for Mc ); single letters for double (m for mm, n for nn); translations (King for Roy, Carpenter for Zimmermann). Other search tips: substitute each vowel for other ones, search for nicknames, when hyphenated – search for each surname alone, with and without “de” or “von”; with and without a space or apostrophe (Lachance and La Chance, O’Brien and OBRIEN). York County History Center Bible Collection Object ID 13989 Surname Index PLEASE NOTE: The surnames in this index are spelled exactly as they appear in the Bibles. If a surname was spelled several different ways in a Bible, all spelling variations were included in this index. We strongly recommend that you consider all possible spellings of a last name, as people often wrote phonetically in the past. The corresponding three-digit Bible number is the sub- number for the Bible in the Bible Collection. All Bibles begin with the Object ID No. 13989 and end with the three-digit sub-number. E.g., the name "Albright" appears in Bible 13989.303. It may be necessary to look up a Bible by the Object ID No., not the name, in our Online Collections. If the corresponding number begins with the letters "MS", we did not receive the family records along with the Bible they were written in, and they are stored in a manuscript file. Currently, manuscript files are not available online. Please visit the Library & Archives to view the manuscript file.
