1966 - National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) created the National Historic Preservation program: Created SHPOs appointed by State Governors Created an advisory body to SHPO (Commission or Board) Created the Historic Preservation
U.S. Capitol Fund – provides ½ of OHP’s budget 1969 - State Legislature brought the Historical Landmarks Advisory Committee into conformance with federal standards. Legislative Basis for the OHP (cont.)
1972 - California History Preservation Section established in the Dept. of Parks and Recreation.
1975 - Office of Historic Preservation established by the Director of the Dept. of Parks and Recreation
