SPECIAL HOST DITA VON TEESE

Born Heather Sweet in West Branch, Michigan, Dita Von Teese grew up fascinated by the Golden Age of Cinema, pin-up imagery, and vintage lingerie. This naturally blond, mid-western girl transformed herself into a glamour girl like those she admired. Performing striptease since 1992, she is the biggest name in burlesque world-wide since Gypsy Rose Lee, and is credited with bringing the art form back into the spotlight with a new sense of elegance and sophistication.

Taking audiences on a journey into fantasy and spectacle, Dita is renowned for her ornate sets and dazzling haute-couture performance costumes adorned with hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals. This “Burlesque Superheroine” (Vanity Fair) is the performer of choice at high profile events including those for designers such as Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Chopard, and Cartier, and was the first guest star in history at Paris’ famed Crazy Horse (established in 1951) where she has performed several sold-out runs.

In addition to her burlesque shows, Dita is a self-styled fashion icon, topping best-dressed lists all over the world. Featured on Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List 2013, Dita has recently expanded into her own distinct brands. Her lingerie collection debuted exclusively with Bloomingdale’s in the U.S. in March 2014, and has expanded to other popular U.S. retailers such as , Dillard’s, Barenecessities.com and .

Dita also recently launched a luxury glove collection, has collaborated on her very own collection of signature sunglasses, and her fragrance collec- tion offers four award-winning glamorous scents. Her latest book, "Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour” was recently added to the New York Times Best Seller’s list.

An advocate in the fight against HIV and Aids, Dita was a MAC Viva Glam Spokesperson from 2006-2008 and in 2009 she participated in the H&M/Fashion Against Aids t-shirt campaign. She has also performed and appeared at several events for Amfar and was honored with their Award of Courage in 2008. Her status as a burlesque star and modern- day feminist has also garnered her an invitation to speak at the Oxford Student Union, where other elected speakers have included the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Tony Blair, and Anna Wintour. 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:04 PM Page 7

PRESIDENT’S LETTER 2016

Good evening and welcome to the Femmy Gala, the Underfashion Club’s annual dinner that recognizes and celebrates the significant achievements of Intimate Apparel Industry leaders worldwide! Honorees are selected from the retail, manufacturing, supply and design sectors of the business. I would like to extend the heartiest of congratulations to this year’s honorees, Amazon Fashion, Richard Leeds International, Inc., Best Pacific/New Horizon, Lane Bryant/Cacique and Martin Trust, all of whom exemplify innovative spirit and dedication to our industry! Special congratulations to President’s Award VICTOR H. VEGA recipient Francesca Spinetta.

As a fundraising event, the Femmy Gala serves a dual purpose: creating a venue for business and social interchange, and generating the monies that enable us to fulfill our mission of “Supporting education today for a better industry tomorrow.” In addition to the extensive scholarship support that has been given for many years to the best and brightest intimate apparel students at the Fashion Institute of Technology, we have expanded our support to include scholarships for fashion merchandising students at LIM College, and graduating seniors from the High School of Art & Design in New York City, and the Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) School in Miami. And next on our list – design and merchandising students at Parsons The New School For Design.

Special thanks to our most generous dedicated scholarship providers, Best Pacific, Fashion Forms, KOMAR, MGF Sourcing, Richard Leeds International, and Tianhai Lace.

This is the second year that the Mary Krug Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 has been awarded to a fashion merchandising student at LIM College. Mary was Vice President and Division Merchandise Manager of Stores. When she died in 2013, Mary left a great legacy in the countless buyers, assistant buyers and vendors that she trained and educated over the years. A group of industry executives established a scholarship in her memory for students of fashion merchan- dising, and entrusted the Underfashion Club with its management.

As part of our emphasis on the students who are our future, the Femmy Gala is hosting, for the thirteenth consecutive year, a design contest featuring garments designed by student from the Fashion Institute of 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:04 PM Page 9

President’s Letter (continued)

Technology’s Fashion Design program. Thanks are extended to the SAIG Co-Chairs, Suzanne Beck and Clelia Parisi, and to FIT Professor Alexandra Armillas.

Special thanks to the design contest sponsors Clover Group International, Regina Miracle International and Stretchline Holdings for providing the cash awards that will be presented to tonight’s contestants and to Eurovet and Curvexpo for providing roundtrip airfare, accommodations and compli- mentary admission to this July’s Interfiliere Paris / Salon International de la Lingerie for the winner of the Student Design Contest.

The Femmy Gala takes months of advance planning. Sincere congratulations and thanks to Femmy Co-Chairs, Karen Bromley and Sonja Winther and the entire Femmy committee, for their enthusiasm and hard work.

For 58 years, the Underfashion Club has been a bastion of dedicated volunteers who are passionately working to make a difference in our industry! We strive each year to offer our members benefits that will enhance their knowledge of the industry, and their opportunity for advancement:

• Our web site, www.underfashionclub.org, is the portal for mining a wealth of information and guidance, which includes an online Membership Directory, and the Femmy Journal Archive.

• Our Blog, “Insider,” shines a spotlight on industry leaders and topics and provides trend direction!

• Our Seminars inform and educate our members and industry associates in a comfortable, social atmosphere.

I want to make special mention of the Intimate Apparel Council, an organization that for many years was responsible for setting the Intimate Apparel market dates in the . In 2015, the remaining officers of the IAC “passed the baton” to the Underfashion Club and we are honored to have been chosen to provide this most important service to the industry going forward. The IAC also gifted the Underfashion Club with over $75,000 to aid our mission of education and service in support of intimate apparel worldwide.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow Officers and Directors, and all of the members who have greatly contributed to the success of the Underfashion Club, Inc.

President’s Award Recipient FRANCESCA SPINETTA

After starting her career with a consulting company as business analyst and editor, Francesca Spinetta was offered the opportunity to join Intima Media Group to become, a few years later, the co-owner of the Milano based company.

Her mission was to develop the company internationally and so she made Intima the #1 magazine in France. Then she launched Intima Asia, The Best of Intima in North America, Intimoda for Russia and the CIS and, last year The Best of Swim, a swim only magazine targeting the vast American swim market.

Mrs. Spinetta also successfully launched two major retail Awards, first in the U.S. then in France and participates, as a professional speaker, at several business conferences worldwide.

She is receiving the Underfashion Club’s President’s Award in recogni- tion of her long standing support of the Underfashion Club’s mission of “Education today for a better industry tomorrow.” Thanks to her, and Intima, the international community has for many years been made aware of the Club and the talented student designers who compete in our annual design contest. 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:04 PM Page 19

Innovation Award Recipient LANE BRYANT / CACIQUE

Founded over a century ago, Lane Bryant is the leading specialty retailer for Plus-Size (or, as we prefer to say, “her-size”) apparel, intimate apparel, and accessories. We operate in 770 stores nationwide and we have a rapidly growing e commerce site.

The appeal to our customer has been built on the simple premise that fashion shouldn’t be defined by size. It is our mission with the ongoing enhancement of and focus on product launches in Cacique, our intimates line; the addition of extended product categories like Livi, our active wear line; the engagement of well-known fashion designers in collaborations that address her desire to own fashions that are on trend and stylish, that we will help change the way she sees fashion and the way the fashion world sees her potential as a customer. All of these efforts are wrapped in our open dialogue and expression of body positivity and equal representation in print and media. Our customer wants to be seen and we will continue to shine a light on her until we feel like she is not only seen, but celebrated, as well. We envision a future where the size of the woman will no longer define who or what she is.

The current "#IMNOANGEL” campaign challenges many of the cultural views of the idealized depiction of “perfect” beauty through a “perfect” body so often shown in advertising and in the edit pages of most of the fashion and lifestyle magazines. This campaign is fun, sexy and slightly irreverent ...echoing what we believe are adjectives that describe how many of our shoppers approach not only getting dressed, but living life.

Our intent is to empower all women regardless of size or shape. We celebrate her as she is. To Lane Bryant/Cacique, sexy is not a size...it’s how you feel. And we're not by any means finished...in the coming months you will see us introduce new campaigns, additional designer collaborations, and even explore some new product categories. By dictionary definition “fashion is change”. At Lane Bryant/Cacique, we're solidly in the business of fashion.

President and Chief Executive Officer Linda Heasley is accepting the award on behalf of Lane Bryant. During her time with Lane Bryant, Ms. Heasley has established the Brand’s leadership position in fashion in intimates and apparel while changing the conversation and outlooks for the customers the Brand serves. 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:04 PM Page 21

BEST PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL HOLDING LIMITED

Founded in 2004, the Best Pacific Group of companies has rapidly become one of the world’s largest synthetic warp and circular knitting suppliers for intimates, swimwear, shape wear, and sportswear. The Group’s vertically integrated operation, from warping to sourcing, dyeing, setting to finishing, plus in-house printing, has earned them a great reputation for product development, quality control and customer satisfaction.

Mr. Kane Haitao Zhang is Chief Executive Officer, formulating and overseeing the corporate direction and business strategies of the Group. He has 18 years’ experience in the textile industry with an education in fashion technology and a master’s degree in software systems. He currently serves as a director of the Guangdong Textiles Association.

Key elements of the Group’s success have been their in-house design studio, research and development with yarn, dye and chemical suppli- ers resulting in technological breakthroughs, and a quality assurance system that incorporates international standards with 24 hours contin- uous independent testing and inspection. Their in-house laboratory has been accredited by Limited brands, M&S, Triumph, Adidas, Reebok, Under Armour, Lululemon, etc. Thinking green and Eco friendly, the Group is a recipient of Oeko-tex certification, and has a high commit- ment to the global environmental protection program.

With a dedicated workforce of almost 4,000 persons, the Group looks forward to broadening their customer base and reinforcing their posi- tion as a leading global one-stop solutions provider of synthetic knit materials through an emphasis on expanded production capacity, streamlined and standardized production processes and innovative research and development. 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:05 PM Page 23

RICHARD LEEDS INTERNATIONAL, INC.

Once upon a time, in the far off land of New Jersey, Marcia and Richard met while attending their final year at University. Richard was following his artistic passions for writing fiction & poetry, while Marcia was satisfy- ing her need to help people through the study of nursing. In May of 1970, they were married, laying the foundation for their own proverbial “Yellow Brick Road”.

They had just come through the Summer of Love, only to find that “careers in empathy & compassion” wouldn’t provide a down payment for a house. So while Marcia continued on her nursing track, Richard set out to learn the fundamentals of the apparel import business through the roots of his late Grandfather’s garment industry connections.

In 1980, Norman Hinerfeld asked Richard to join one of his Domestic Apparel Divisions. By 1988, Richard was ready for something bold. In true “Rags to Stitches” fashion, Richard grabbed Marcia’s hand and took a leap of faith. He left the company, took a second mortgage on their modest home, and began Richard Leeds International. The company’s vision was to create women’s sleepwear that could be worn not only for sleeping, but also for lounging around the house.

The enchantment of their creations was taken one step further through their Licensed Character Brands. There is an emotional connection and nostalgia tied to classic cartoons and beloved childhood fairytales. By employing a love of characters, the imaginative designs coming out of “RLI” relax the mind and spirit, the same way that the clothing itself com- forts the body. Richard refers to this process as “Dreams Made Visible.”

Today, Richard Leeds International has 66 associates in the U.S., and 25 associates spread amongst their overseas offices and manufacturing loca- tions in Asia. This March, the company will celebrate their 28th year of business. This May, Marcia and Richard will celebrate 46 years of marriage. It’s been an incredible road for them, and with great humility and gratitude they acknowledge every associate who has added another yellow brick to their collective path. Like all Fairy Tales, the adventure continues to unfold with magical chapters yet to be written, and destined to remain “Happily Ever After…” 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:05 PM Page 27

Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient MARTIN TRUST

Martin Trust founded MAST Industries in 1970 in the basement of his house in Canton, Massachusetts. Marty was the first US direct investor in apparel production in Mainland China in 1978 with his joint venture, Sinotex. That same year, Mast Industries was acquired by The Limited – an 18 store chain in Columbus Ohio. Under Marty’s leadership, Mast grew to reach a sales volume of $1.5 billion with offices in 14 countries.

During his 30-years as CEO of Mast, Marty created over 20 joint ven- tures primarily in Sri Lanka. One of the first joint ventures, Bodyline, was a partnership involving Mast, Germany-based maker Triumph, and Sri Lanka-based apparel producer MAS Holdings. Bodyline was among the first major bra manufacturers in South Asia for leading US brands. Marty went on to create nearly 50 ventures with local partners across the globe. The impact of these facilities — and Marty’s foresight and deter- mination to create a world-class supply chain for the intimate apparel industry — is unparalleled.

Today, Trust Family Industries, founded by Marty as Brandot International in 2002, continues to specialize in the Joint Venture manufacturing of apparel and related components — including all forms of intimate apparel, buttons, sweaters, narrow elastics, and swim wear with 15 active partner- ships in eight countries – Mexico, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Honduras, India, Indonesia and the USA. Customers include: Victoria’s Secret, Zara, American Eagle, , GAP, Land’s End, Nike, Speedo, , Chicos, and Express.

Marty is a partner in the Boston Red Sox ownership group, served for many years on the boards of Staples and Limited Brands, and is a member of the board of Virtusa – a global IT services company.

In a career spanning a half-century, Marty helped revolutionize and create what is today a dynamic global supply chain, delivering speed, quality, ethics in manufacturing, and on-demand fashion. Marty’s impact on the industry is indeterminable, but perhaps can best be measured by the countless apparel executives across the globe who have been shaped by his knowledge, passion, vision and guidance. 2016.FEMMY.Pages.1-29_47443-Femmy PG 1-24 1/27/16 8:05 PM Page 29

The Underfashion Club, Inc. has just concluded another successful year, delivering on its mission to promote “education today for a better industry tomorrow.” In addition to the extensive scholarship support that has been given for many years to the best and brightest intimate apparel students at the Fashion Institute of Technology, we have expanded our support to include scholarships for fashion merchandising students at LIM College, and graduating seniors from the High School of Art & Design in New York City, and the Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) School in Miami. And next on our list – support for design and merchandising students at Parsons The New School For Design.

The Underfashion Club is dedicated to the belief that the future depends on attracting and educating young people to the opportunities in our industry. As a means to this end, our scholarships provide substantial monetary support to students who pursue college-level, intimate apparel- related courses. Our internship program provides college students with the opportunity of working as interns for intimate apparel manufacturers, suppliers and retailers while continuing their education. As a result of this program, several graduates have entered our industry. It is our expectation that companies will hire more students based on the success of the current endeavor.

The Femmy Gala is the fundraising vehicle, which enables the Underfashion Club to support its extensive program of scholarships, awards, internships and grants. The Underfashion Club has also been fortunate in attracting a number of dedicated scholarship sponsors and internship providers. We are especially grateful to Clover Group International Ltd., Regina Miracle International Ltd., and Stretchline Holdings Ltd. for underwriting this year’s Student Design Contest.

If you or your company would be interested in sponsoring a summer intern, or providing additional scholarship opportunities, we would be most pleased to hear from you.

Please contact the Underfashion Club Office at 845-758-6405. 2016.FEMMY.JOURNAL.Pages30-76_47443-Femmy Journal 1/27/16 7:40 PM Page 38

THE MARY KRUG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

ary Krug was Vice President and Division Merchandise MManager for Neiman Marcus Stores, a division of Neiman Marcus Group. Mary personified excellence, and she truly was the best of the best. When she died in 2013, Mary left a great legacy in the countless buyers, assistant buyers and vendors that she trained and educated over the years. A group of industry executives – men and women who knew Mary well – committed to establish a scholarship in her memory for students of fashion merchandising. What began as a single scholarship is now a scholarship fund that will carry Mary’s name and devotion to education years into the future. Contributions to the fund continue to be collected, and you are welcome to add your financial support to this most worthy endeavor.

INTRODUCING THE 2016 RECIPIENT OF THE MARY KRUG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ——–———————–––––––— ––—————— ELISE CARDONA | LIM College ——–———————–––––––— ––—————— grew up in a military family with both my mom and dad serving Iin the Army. I have traveled frequently within the United States and Europe to wherever the Army sent us. During the time we lived in Germany, it was a trip to Paris that solidified my desire to become a part of the fashion industry. Growing up outside of the United States allowed me to experience different cultures and have an appreciation for fashion from different parts of the world. When my parents retired from the military, we moved to San Antonio, TX and I attended high school where I furthered my interest in the Arts by participating in drama, choir and sewing. With hard work and time management, I was able to graduate a year early from high school with a Magna Cum Laude distinction.

Although I applied to several colleges, I knew in my heart that LIM was where I wanted to be and my dream came true when I received my acceptance letter! I am currently a sophomore and I am enjoying not only the educational journey but I absolutely love living in the most energetic and diverse city in the world. It would be difficult to pick a favorite class or professor because I have learned so much from all of the classes I have taken, but with a major in Fashion Merchandising and a concentration in Styling, I am especially drawn to all things fashion. 2016.FEMMY.JOURNAL.Pages30-76_47443-Femmy Journal 1/27/16 7:40 PM Page 40

2016 DASH SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

——–———————–––––––— ––—————— ANNA MORENO ——–———————–––––––— ––—————— y name is Anna Moreno, I am 17 years old, and I was Mborn in Cagua, a small town in Venezuela. It’s been almost 8 years since I arrived in the U.S., but I knew from an early age that I was interested in fashion design.

Now I live in Miami, Florida and I attend Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) School, majoring in Fashion Design. My first choice of college is the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and I want to continue my study in fashion design.

My aspiration is to become a successful designer and entre- preneur, and I hope to become the creative director of my own company 2016.FEMMY.JOURNAL.Pages30-76_47443-Femmy Journal 1/27/16 7:40 PM Page 41
