Large Mansion and open more areas to the public • To create an exciting new museum which tells the stories of Ealing and Hounslow and its residents • To refurbish key historic rooms: the Drawing Room, Long Gallery and Dining Room and the unique historic kitchen and servants rooms • Dynamic programme of events, activities and workshops for adults, families, community groups and schools Gunnersbury Park Regeneration Project GUNNERSBURY PARK London Slide 12 Phase 1 : Historic park restoration • Recreate the beautiful garden setting for the mansions including restoring the West Horseshoe Pond • Create exciting opportunities for local people and community groups to help restore and look after the park • Repair the unique park structures including the Orangery and ensure that they continue to 87% agreed : Repairing Round Pond near café and reintroducing boating • 69% agreed : Developing a community garden in the East Walled Garden Museum • 85% agreed : Restoring and opening more rooms in the museum as galleries • 79% agreed : Relocating displays to reveal principal rooms • 79% agreed : Make reception more welcoming, improve signage to facilities Gunnersbury Park Regeneration Project Governance Gunnersbury Park Regeneration Project GUNNERSBURY PARK London Slide 16 Public Consultation : Cycling • Mixed feedback on cycling in the park (47% agreed 20% neutral 33% disagreed) • Opportunity to better manage cycling in the park to tackle issues with other users • Opportunity to connect Gunnersbury Park to the London Cycle Network • Further external funding available from Transport for London for improving paths and signage Gunnersbury Park Regeneration Project GUNNERSBURY PARK London Slide 17 Public Consultation : Pitch and Putt • Open up over 18 acres of heritage parkland • Link the inner and outer areas of the park • Preserve long grass meadow as wildlife habitat • Enable people to enjoy the wilder side of the park’s nature • Improve pitch and putt course to appeal to wider range of player • Funded by pitch and putt operator Gunnersbury Park Regeneration Project GUNNERSBURY PARK London Slide 18 Public Consultation : Sport and Community Facility • Many people commented they would like to see leisure activities expanded • National sports organisations are working with us • Gunnersbury Park is seen as a priority for investment in sports facilities • Working very closely with Brentford FC • The facilities will not just be for sports but community activities as well • We will develop plans over the next 12-18 months • The aim to complete this phase Nearly 75% said that we should improve the café building • Allocated £120k to substantially refurbish existing café • Exploring possibility of a new café which will allow for carriage display Points of interest: nature reserve; new footbridge (work scheduled to start August 2018); Chiswick Business Park; Russian Orthodox Church; Kew Bridge; Strand on the Green. Transport: Chiswick Park station (District Line); Gunnersbury station (District Line/Overground); Local buses. Start the walk from Chiswick Park station. Leave the station and cross Bollo Lane to go right to Gunnersbury Triangle nature reserve -This wet woodland nature reserve was saved from development in the early 1980s. A pleasant path meanders around the reserve. The reserve is normally open. Return to the entrance and go left along Bollo Lane – a pedestrian footbridge is planned for people using Chiswick Park station and going to Chiswick Business Park. It will then not be necessary to walk along Bollo Lane to the level crosssing. However, at present you need to go under the railway bridge, passing an attractive pub, and on as far as a level crossing. Just after turn left along a road to go under another railway bridge and into Chiswick Business Park. Walk a short way along the road and just past a bus stop look for a path on the right between large office buildings.

Gunnersbury Park is an important part of Brentford and Chiswick and a valuable part of the heritage of the borough. This draft appraisal builds on the original conservation statements for Hounslow’s conservation areas and has been reviewed as part of a comprehensive review of Hounslow’s conservation area statements. The purpose of the appraisal is to provide an overview of historic developments and key components that contribute to the special interest. This appraisal will also identify positive and negative contributors as well as opportunities for improvement in order to inform a comprehensive understanding of the conservation area.     TREC Section 4: Acton Town Station/Gunnersbury Park to Boston Manor Station (optional extension to Ealing Broadway). Distance: 8.4 km (5.4 miles). Public Transport: Section 4 starts at Acton Town Underground Station (District and Piccadilly lines), finishing at Boston Manor Underground Station (Piccadilly Line). There is an optional exit en route at Brentford Station or an optional 3.7 km (2.3 miles) extension from Boston Manor to Ealing Broadway Station (using part of the TREC Section 1 route). Surface and Terrain: The first half of the route is along level paths, including through parks: Gunnersbury and Carville Hall Park South; however the section along the Thames Path and the River Brent/Grand Union Canal Walk does involve some steps (an alternative route avoiding the steps is suggested); the route eventually reaches Boston Manor Park and Station. Refreshments: Acton Town Station; Gunnersbury Park Café; Brentford High Street (near Brentford Lock); Boston Manor Park Café (seasonal), Boston Manor Station and shops nearby. Covid-19 restrictions: Check availability of refreshments and toilets before your walk. Public Toilets: Acton Town Station (charge); Gunnersbury Park; Boston Manor Park Café (seasonal). The route starts from south-west Acton, one of the seven towns of the London Borough of Ealing, Acton means "oak farm" or "farm by oak trees". This final section of TREC does stray into the north east of the London Borough of Hounslow going through parts of old Brentford, however as this was historically part of the Parish of Ealing when it did extend to the River Thames we think it’s appropriate to include in TREC.
