2009 Youth Test/Youth Rules - 1 US LACROSSE WOMEN’S DIVISION OFFICIALS COUNCIL 2009 YOUTH TEST/YOUTH RULES For Officials 18 and under or Adults who intend to only work Youth games. Based on the 2009 Official Rules for Girls and Women’s Lacrosse TRUE or FALSE (One point each) 1. In Level FC, A and B games coaches may move along the full boundary line on the bench/table side of the field, behind the level of the scorer’s table extended, and not in the area directly in front of the opposing team bench and not in either team’s substitution area. (Pg. 88) 2. For Levels A, B, & C: On an indirect free position the player with the ball must pass the ball to another player or be checked by an opponent (played) before a shot on goal may be taken. (Pg. 90, Def.; Pg. 60, played) 3. For Level FC games it is a major foul and a mandatory red card for a check to the head. (Pg. 89, Fouls) 4. For Levels A, B, & C: Before it is possible for the umpire to call a minor foul on the attack for holding the ball for more than 3 seconds, a defense player must have both hands on her stick and be in a position to legally check. (Note: “A position to legally check” could be in front, on either side, or behind the player with the ball). (Pg. 89, Fouls) 5. For Levels A, B, & C: The Goalkeeper must wear the following---a helmet with a face mask designed for lacrosse that meets NOCSAE test standard, separate throat protector, chest protector, abdominal and pelvic protection, goalie gloves, and leg padding on the shins and thighs. (Pg. 87) 6. The goalkeeper has 10 seconds to clear the ball from the goal circle, after she picks up the ball and places the ball in her crosse, while within the goal circle. (Pg. 46 Rule 6 Section 5 a) 7. The depth of a regulation pocket of the field stick (crosse) meets specifications when after pressure has been applied and released from the ball in the pocket the ball is visible or seen above the sidewall (wooden or plastic) of a horizontally held stick. (Pg. 13 Rule 2 Section 2 b) 8. During play, each substitute must pass through the team substitution area which is centered in front of the scorer’s table is 10 yards wide and is marked by two hash marks 2m-4m in length each of which is 5 yards from the midfield line and perpendicular to and touching the sideline and not enter this area until the substitution is imminent. (Pg. 6, Substitution Area; Pg. 36 Rule 5 Section 22 a) 9. In a Level A game it is legal for a Red team player to check in a downward motion and away from the opponent’s body the stick of a Blue team player that is entirely below shoulder level. (Pg. 90, Def.; Pg. 85 Guidance) 10. The coach must verbally certify to the umpires prior to the start of the game that all equipment is legal under the US Lacrosse Rules, including eye protection that meets the most recent ASTM Specification Standard and that the GK helmets meet the NOCSAE standards for lacrosse. (Pg. 20 Rule 3 Section 2) 11. As a Red attack player shoots on goal, the ball goes into the goal and her stick hits the defender’s shoulder as she follows through. The Red attack player must be carded and leave the field for 3 minutes. The goal still counts. (Pg. 43, w; Pg. 26 Rule 4 Section 9 f) No part of this test may be reproduced in any manner without written permission from US Lacrosse, Inc. 2009 Youth Test/Youth Rules - 2 12. A goalkeeper who is grounded outside the goal circle may reach out her crosse and bring the ball back into the goal circle. (Pg. 46 Rule 6 Section 5 c) 13. The timer’s horn will indicate the end of each half and overtime. (Pg. 23 Rule 3 Section 13 h) 14. During the pre-game check, a player wearing a small earring tells the officials that she just had her ear pierced and must not remove the earring. The correct procedure for the official to follow is to allow her to play after putting tape over the earring. (Pg. 45 Rule 6 Section 2 p) 15. It is illegal for a defense player to hold her crosse in a horizontal position when in the 8M arc. (Note: No contact has been initiated.) (Pg. 41 Rule 6 Section 1 g 3) 16. To be “within a stick’s length” a defense player must have some part of the opponent’s body inside a crosse and an arm’s length extended. (Pg. 62 Rule 8, Def) 17. It is a minor foul for a player to run out of bounds and re-enter in a more advantageous position. (Pg. 45 Rule 6 Section 2 t) 18. Both offensive and defensive players are responsible for not causing crosse to body or body to crosse contact. (Pg. 41 Rule 6 Section 1 f) 19. The officials shall permit a time out to be called by the coach or a player on the field after a goal. (Pg. 25 Rule 4 Section 4) 20. During the draw, on the word “ready”, the players taking the draw must remain motionless and not turn their heads until after the whistle. (Pg. 29 Rule 5 Section 2) 21. Each team (home and away) must provide a sideline manager whose duty shall be to control effectively the actions of spectators not in conformity with the standards of proper conduct. (Pg. 88) 22. “Checking is a major foul” in Level B and C games. (Pg. 89) 23. Soft/flexible cones, pylons or flags must be used to mark the corners of the field. (Pg. 5 Rule 1 Section 2) 24. If both players draw illegally or it cannot be determined why the draw was illegal the umpire will administer a throw. (Pg. 29 Rule 5 Section 3) 25. The defender who is marking an otherwise unmarked opponent who is “directly behind the goal circle” is exempt from both 3 seconds and obstruction of the “free space to goal”. (Pg. 42 Rule 6 Section 1 o) 26. It is minor foul for a team to request more than two timeouts during a game. (Pg. 44 Rule 6 Section 2 v) 27. The critical scoring area is an area 15m in front of the goal circle and 15m to each side of the goal circle (forming an arc concentric to the 12m fan) and 9m behind the goal line extended. (Pg. 57) 28. Time out is taken and a card must be issued for a slash, a check to the head, dangerous propelling, and dangerous follow-through. (Pgs. 41 & 43 Rule 6 Section 1) 29. A team must not have more than 7 players on or over the restraining line in their offensive end or have more than 8 players including the GK, on or over the restraining line in their defensive end. (Pg. 46 Rule 6 Section 7) 30. All fouls may be classified as major, minor, team, goal circle, or misconduct.
