The Indian Pangolin Manis crassicaudata is such a species, which is imperiled and lacking key biological studies in the northern locale of Pakistan. We investigated distribution, abundance and threats faced by the Indian Pangolin in and around Pir Lasura National Park, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan. The Indian Pangolin has a patchy distribution in the study area ranging from 590–1,540 m elevation. A very low population (0.77±0.34 individuals/km2) of Indian Pangolin were recorded from the Park. Local perception towards the Indian Pangolin was to a great extent negative. A total of 446 pangolins were killed during 2013–2015. We recovered 12 dead pangolins and 10 jackets of scales. Furthermore, 111 live captures, 313 killing and selling of 26kg scales were reported by the local community. Groups involved in killing of Indian Pangolin included local hunters (90.3%), farmers (8.2%) and labours (1.5%). We propose more studies should be carried out to improve the baseline data on the ecology of species and awareness education programs both by government and private sectors, to educate local communities living in and around Pir Lasura National Park for getting support for the conservation of the Indian Pangolin. The myrme- cophilous glandular organs and vibratory muscles of such larval carcasses remain functional for up to 8 days. The cuticle of lycaenid larvae contains extractable “adoption substances” which elicit anten- nal drumming in their tending ants. These adoption substances, as well, appear to persist in a functional state beyond parasitoid emer- gence, and the larval carcasses are hence tended much like healthy caterpillars. In all examples, the braconids may receive selective advantages through myrmecophily of their host larvae, instead of being suppressed by the ant guard. Interactions where parasitoids exploit the ant-mutualism of their lycaenid hosts have as yet been recorded only from the Apanteles group in the Braconidae- Microgasterinae. Caterpillars were sampled every month from January 2017 – June 2017. A total of 3,434 specimens were identified to 86 species, 55 genera, and 19 families and 37 morphospecies. The most abundant species was Euremablanda (n=1,280). The highest diversity was found in 500 meters above mean sea level (H'= 2.66) and the similarity of caterpillar that occurred in different elevation was low. Situated mainly in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Khao Yai is part of Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, a world heritage site declared by UNESCO. In at least five different forest type, Khao Yai National Park has complex ecosystem with richness of plant and animal such as mammal bird reptile and insects.

Webb1* Abstract. Habitat loss and urbanisation in the tropics have been recognised as major drivers of species extinctions. Concurrently, novel habitats such as urban parks have been shown to be important as habitats and stepping stones in urban ecosystems around the world. However, few studies have assessed long-term patterns of species extinctions and discoveries in response to these drivers in the tropics. We know little about long-term persistence and utility of novel habitats in tropical urban ecosystems. In this study, we produced an updated and exhaustive butterfy checklist of species recorded from Singapore till December 2017 to investigate trends in butterfy extirpations (local extinctions), discoveries (new country records) and rediscoveries and how these relate to land use change in 28 years (1990–2017) in Singapore. Up to 144 butterfy species were identifed to be extirpated in Singapore by 1990. From 1990–2017, an additional nine butterfy extirpations have potentially occurred, which suggests a maximum of 153 butterfy extirpations to date. The rate of extirpations between 1990 to 2017 (< 0.33 extirpations per year) was much lower than the rate of extirpations between 1926 to 1989 (> 1.52 extirpations per year). The majority of potentially extirpated butterfies between 1990 to 2017 were species restricted to mature forests.

    39 Pakistan's Progress By Guy Mountfort In the short space of twelve months Pakistan has laid wide-ranging plans for conserving her wildlife, hitherto completely neglected. On the recommenda- tion of two World Wildlife Fund expeditions, led by Guy Mountfort, an international WWF trustee, two national parks and several reserves are being created which should give Pakistan a last chance to save the tiger, the snow leopard and several other seriously threatened mammals and birds. NTIL very recently wildlife conservation in Pakistan was non- U existent; today the situation is extremely encouraging. Under the direction of President Ayub Khan, most of the recommendations in the report of the 1967 World Wildlife Fund expedition have already been implemented, and a number of the proposed new wildlife reserves are now in being. A wildlife committee (in effect a Government Commission) has been set up under the distinguished chairmanship of Mr. M. M. Ahmad, Deputy Chairman of the Central Government Planning Commission, to create a permanent administrative framework for the conservation and management of wildlife and habitats, and two sub-committees are studying technical, educational, legal and administrative requirements. After submitting detailed reports and recommendations to the President in the spring of 1970, the committee will be replaced by a permanent wildlife advisory body to co-ordinate future planning. Responsibility for the management of wildlife resources has been given to the Department of Forests. Forest Officers are to be given special train- ing in wildlife ecology and management, and the first trainees have just completed courses in the United States. Meanwhile, a post-graduate curriculum in wildlife management is in preparation at the Forest Institute at Peshawar, to which Major Ian Grimwood has been seconded by FAO.
